    Sorry to resurrect this after so long, but why do you not offset the dowels, rather than the zero point, so that the edges of the dowels align with the centre point of the zero? That way you don't lose any cutting 'real estate'?

    I also don't own a StepCraft but watch all your videos. I use wooden dowels because I tend to make errors and cut the border and touch the dowels at times, metal dowels wouldn't be good for me! lol

      Use to dowel pins to locate your work, hold it down with double-sided tape, then pull the dowels out once the material is fixed down in the right place

    Are there 1/4" dowel pins with a half-round top? Seems an easier solution to the 1/8" offset problem.

    Thanks for your efforts Sir.
    But can we have a playlist that takes beginners step by step?
    The playlist kinda gets someone lost.

    Your 0,0 should not be dependent on the cutter size. If you line up your material on 0,10 and 10,0 vectors you have all the reference you need independent of the bit you are using. Your indexing is off vectors, not where your cutter will reach 0,0. I have spent too much time trying to maximize table cutting size and minimizing material loss.

    Can also make a fence that has the same reference points. You just plop them on the pins when you need them. You'd loose a bit of cutting area.

    When I hit the P1 on my M1000 it goes to 53.7000 (x) 31.7000 (y) -10.000 (z) instead of 3.175, 3.175, 0. Is there an update I need to do or is there a manual way to change that P1 data point? Thanks Erick!

      Great video it explains a lot. I currently have a CNC4Newbies 4x8 platform. Like in your video when I home my machine it is currently off the material like you showed. How can I get that info on the P1 option to set my home position like you showed. Thanks Eric

    Thanks for this detailed explanation Erick. Do you perhaps have a macro for winpc-nc?

    • @StepcraftInc
      @StepcraftInc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I do not. We do not use WinPC-NC here in the USA. I am sorry. I am sure if you look on the forums at www.stepcraft-systems.com that you might find someone that can make a macro for it

    Seems it would be easier to just move machine to extremes and drill tiny holes then lay down a piece of thin wood as a ruler/square along those lines and screw them in

    • @StepcraftInc

      As I said in the video, there are several ways that you could do this. This was just one to illustrate why it is important to have a reference.

    I thought G55, G56, ... were made for such things, maybe the P1 macro+zero all is simpler, thanks for the tip.

    • @StepcraftInc
      @StepcraftInc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you are correct. G55, G56 etc are made for this. The problem is that if you set G56 to the required start point (.125 over on X and Y) and you accidentally reset Zero to another location (ask me how I know) then you lose your required start point. The P1 macro, just makes it so you can always get back to that starting location regardless of where you have any other work offset programmed. It is a failsafe way to maintain that starting location when using reference edges.

    Dude, move the origin in a half inch and set your reference pins. Don't try to confuse things by living on the edge of your max work envelope.
