City was known as Peking in 1910... correct? Noticed the people smoking in a certain kind of way of holding and inhaling the material... were they smoking opium? Thanks! @@NASS_0
I wonder if, 115 years from now, there will be someone as passionate as yourself, who will begin the task of preserving and restoring all the damaged and lost digital media from the first quarter of the 21st Century? Thankyou for providing such an important social archive, showing us the realities of life, for the people of that time. Thankyou for everything you do on this channel. Peace All
True views of images of time gone past I am a study of the Chinese Dynasties. This seem to be doing the QING period of time. Thanks for your time to share this history.❤
Nass, Hi My friend. Love this! Another fantastic video by you. I am interested in History. Some Chinese men here are still wearing pigtails which was forced on them by the emperor. But at around 1912 the Qing dynasty ended and many Asian male students were going west to America and Europe to study and they did not wear pigtails much anymore.
China before the struggle sessions washed away the history of the nation and broke the pride and dignity of the great Chinese people. Amazing to see this footage.
@@TheDanEdwards What? The Communists hid in the mountains and let Chiang’s army take on the Japanese army, then defeated them. Then decades of mass slaughter, torture, “re-education”, the scourge of the Red Guards… over 70 MILLION DEAD, all during peacetime. That’s Communism.
@ One of the comments criticized you for inserting sounds into the video. I disagree completely. The sounds are very realistic and help to bring the video to life!
Imagine if one of these children in this video was still alive. They would be over 100 years old but to see the progression from the Qing dynasty at Chinas lowest to the CPC what is the most developed futuristic country today would be astonishing to witness
That was impossible. Because from the ancient times they were aware of that China's population is way more than them. They can not even imagine to colonize China
CAN ANYONE DISCERN THE ENGLISH WORDING ON THE SIGNAGE OF THE BACKGROUND BUILDING? SAYS EASTERN IRON WORKS IF I'M NOT WRONG. THE OWNER MUST HAD BEEN A WESTERNER.
I'm not an expert but I did take Chinese History in college in the 1970s. Peking and Shanghai were Mercantilist trading centers. Significant British Empire influence. This film is just before the postWWI upheavals. Mao Tse Tung came to power and the Communists defeated the Nationalists in 1949 with the last few Nationalists fleeing to Formosa (Taiwan). The Chinese Communist Party doesn't recognize the Taiwanese state and threatens reunification by force. I wonder if the people seen smoking here are smoking Opium. The two Opium Wars with the British were historically significant. Some think the modern day export of precursor chemicals for Fentanyl is a way of payback to the West for the Opium issues of the past.
I would love to know what the procession was in aid of , was it a funeral ? they all looked like the didn’t want to be involved . You can understand why the locals were a bit sceptical, this was probably a western person staring at them through a box .
I love these videos! Do you happen to have any of old Florida? The boys in my family are obsessed with old Florida and cowboys etc. Or maybe any type of old country western scene. Great work!!❤
From this to becoming the second richest country in the world. Back in those days nearly nobody had a car, nowadays they are the biggest electric car manufacturer in the world!
"Second richest" yeaaaaah. Now let's talk in relative numbers and who actually has a good standard of living. Cause it isn't the vast majority of Chinese people. The same goes for the US apparently being the "richest" country on earth.

Incredible. 114 years later we're watching them go about their lives. Technology is mind-blowing.

Nass, your work is truly a gift to humanity. Well done once again. Thank you.

Fascinating!!
It is incredible to believe that every man, woman, child, and animal in this film is now dead. Our time on this Earth is fleeting.

It's odd to me that the sign in the background is in English.

Very nice good old video great China
Well, well ! Good images. Thanks!Valuable part of History and why not a reference for a geopolitical analysis.

I really hope this channel isn’t starting to use AI to remaster peoples faces. Some of them look very off.
7:45 crazy to see men in suits walking into the boat.
Looks exactly like a backdrop from Once Upon a Time in China.
多谢多谢
I wonder what was the thing with shaving the front of their heads.
Why is that sign in English?
Because Imperial Great Britain held substantial power in China during that time and even controlled it's ports.
The same reason Britain leased Hong Kong
i know colorized and remastered isn't perfect but people looked different back then
Fun Fact: China was never fully colonized by any western powers.
That was impossible. Because from the ancient times they were aware of that China's population is way more than them. They can not even imagine to colonize China

Still 39 years until the liberation made by Mao and the CP.
If it’s 1910 the audio is bogus/ sound came in 1927.
It's obviously dubbed to make it sound nicer, like *every other video* until the 1960s
It explains that in the first 5 seconds of the video
Amazing!
