vanitybenevolent if you listen it blindfold and really do not understand english, you will not believe that is chess instead football or maybe basketball
The commentary on this match was incredible! I'm not sure why some of you guys are saying it was bad. It's a blitz match for gods sake, and taking into account the huge blunder, the commentators had to be fast and exciting. You want some boring old guys just whispering each move? Yawn.
@@lorymiharu haha maybe. I like Kasparov in general, but I can totally see that. Maybe he'd slap his own king off the board, muttering: "slow rolling SOB..."
Lol I know with pals while watching their blitz games, I sigh and yell at them after they make a similar blunder "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST PLAY? THERE'S MATE RIGHT THERE, YOU IDIOT"
Anand teleported away from the table lol. He knew he didn't deserve that victory and was probably mad at himself for getting in such a position to begin with.
Ivanchuk is the most stressed chess player I've seen. But definitely one of the most talented. I saw him many years ago in an Olympiad, he had the same stressful look.
Nick Schmader I understand the rules of chess. I'm not very good at perceiving it during play like this. However the commentary was awesome. It got you pumped for what, for me, is quite a sterile game to watch. That's what I was saying.
Ya, I get what your saying but they are trying to make Chess into an Action Sport. Keep studying it. The sterile starts getting exciting with all kinds of wild combinations that occur even at a levels that do not carry a high rating.
PsDani Strongly agreed, they have a great dynamic and very exciting commentary that's also informative. They made every moment of this game so exciting, I'd also like to see more of them if anyone know.
I believe it was these commentators, or at least one of them was the same, who commentated on the game where Anand spent almost two minutes on move four in a blitz game. Never been so excited to watch two people do nothing for two minutes
+The God It's very normal for competitive professionals in sports or games to be very emotional after winning or losing, especially if it's a deciding game. It's what separates the good players from the great players usually, the greats always get especially upset at themselves for losing in particular, makes them strive to blunder less the next time around.
+Jack Carter The thing is that at this level, you need to be good or be lucky all the freaking time. And I'm not sure that mistakes made by the opponent count as luck, unless they are provoked by unrelated things like the weather. Anand didn't won by luck, it was Ivanchuk that lost by blunder.
I have always thought the same thing. As a spectator, your mind is more relaxed. As a player, sometimes the "heat of battle" or the intensity of concentration working towards a particular goal, whether offensive or defensive, can cause a player to not notice that which is obvious to the spectator, who is watching with no threat of loss.
I enjoy the game description, the commentators are great. Most chess game videos lack a constant above view of the board. Bottom screen vignette and annotation and it would be perfect. :-)
I wonder if those who automatically say "how could he have been so stupid" have ever played a high stakes timed game. Yes, he missed the mate, and yes, he'll probably be kicking himself over and over for it but sometimes it happens when you're playing at that level and pressure.
Even the best in the world can miss things like this, albeit it very rarely. Kramnik allowed a mate in one to be played against him once, and in a standard time control game, so it can happen.
Lol never heard from Ivanchuk again? That's a bit of a drag... He has been one of the high contenders for years, alongside Anand after Kasparov retired.
There are some on youtube. Search for Maurice Ashley or Daniel King, or Intel Grand Prix, or Kasparov vs Short games. But I would love to watch more of these as well. (you can buy some of them online anyway)
What a fun game to watch, tactically. The missed mate is just one piece of this great game. My hat's off to both of them for having all sorts of tactical genius all game. Let's not discredit the incredible Ivanchuk for his mistake.
This is definitely one of the best videos on the entire TH-cam. I would like to see chess promoted and be shown on TV, but I know that it will not happen considering the average person nowadays.
I love the commentators so much...I was pretty stoned and watched this.....it was awesome! like a real sick battle... all those people who call them retards or stupid... bless your soul!
I was surprised no one else said this, but he had an opportunity to win like 3 or 4 different times there. Even ignoring the opportunities he missed under time constraints, he was 2 moves out from mate in either direction at 7:22, if he had taken pawn with queen.
It does look like Ivanchuk had hangover or sleepless night. I have done tests after sleepless night, and that was a difficult task. We are people and we do make mistakes!
I think this sort of pressure is unimaginable to most people especially those who are like ''how could he have missed that?''. It was just very unfortunate but doesn't make Ivanchuk any less of a great Master in Chess.
I watched this video and went to play in a rated tournament that week and missed a mate in one, accept unlike Ivanchuck i didn't smile at the end of the game.
it felt that I was seeing the match between barcelona and real madrid .wow great commentary.that called crumbling under the time pressure.a grandmaster of Ivanchuk's class missed a simple checkmate like that. anand was surely very lucky
Thanks for posting this, I'll never feel bad whenever I miss a mate, lol. Seriously, Ivanchuck must have been ill after the game when someone showed him what he missed.
The commentary on this game actually makes chess look very exciting.
just like the football commentators....unbelievable he missed mate in one = GOAL
edu maruli No, the equivalent in that case would be a missed penalty in extra time.
vanitybenevolent if you listen it blindfold and really do not understand english, you will not believe that is chess instead football or maybe basketball
vanitybenevolent chess is exciting when you can play and understand it
+edu maruli yeah... more like "unbelievable.... he dint notice the goal post was right next to him with no goalie

He did that against Garry Kasparov too...

Not really. He won the event so it was his last smile for the next ten minutes.

In one of Viktor Korchnoi's books where he analyzes his best wins, there was a game where he missed a mate in 1 and didn't even comment on it.
I don't think these guys get many mating chances.
even if they find a girl who is into chess they would probably just play chess all the time.

Everybody makes mistakes from time to time. Even chess grandmasters do
Andreas Hoppe Ivanchuk can miss mate in one and still beat Carlsen and Kramnik in the last two rounds of the 2013 Candidates. An enigma for sure.

That's rough man. I once missed a mate in 2 against a NM. Luckily I was up a whole piece and survived the time scramble and won.
Realizing missing the rook afterwards must hurt for Ivanchuk.
