Smashed both those beats, Jack. Your mention of where the keys start on the Grandmother reminds me of when I had a Korg Monologue. I think that board starts on E, rather than C. The explanation I received as to why was that mono synths tend to be used as bass or lead instruments, so, some manufacturers elect to accommodate the bass guitar style of play, in case the bass player is pulling double duty in a live or studio setting.
