Hi Diego Terlecki, Thanks for the great comments. As for the groove, I have learnt it totally by ear. I have never counted it or used tabs. I think I started by isolating in my mind the hi hat and snare. Then added the kick. Then kept going over it, till was comfortable. Hope that's of some help.
NeilFelgate-Drummer yes of course it is helpful. Mmm another question, it is indeed a linear pattern, in essence, right? Are u filling up all non hi hat hits with ghost notes on the snare, or did u find some spaces here and there give the groove a little more air? since i cant see ur snare hand nor simon's on that german tv video, its always that the thing that throws me off with this groove. Hi Diego, yes there are many ghost notes. There aren't uniform but yes, they fill up the spectrum. Simon Phillips is a grove master!! Sorry about the angle. Have since started using other camera angles. I only tend to use one main angle to demonstrate it's one take only. Not cut from multiple takes. To get other ghosting snare ideas I have recently put up Rosanna by toto. It shows the snare a lot clearer. Have a peak at that in my list. 👍
