At 5:30, that amazing play is why I would defend by catching the disc, as opposed to biffing with a swat. Even failing to defend w a outright interception, taking spin off the disc reduces sustained flight.
I agree, though I would also say it looked like he tried to catch it and it was close to the line of being catchable. Obviously a catch is better but getting a hand on it is a whole lot better than nothing and often works.
Edit: on looking at the other angles he may not have tried to catch it, but as tough as it would be to do so I'm not sure I blame him for making sure to get solid contact on the disc.
@@ethanbeachy6593 Ethan, thank you for the comment. I ask that all players out there, in regard to catching versus biffing, to think about the number of times somebody has biffed the disc, and it was caught by someone versus the number of times someone slowed the spin or stopped the spin where the disc drops to the ground. In my 26 years of playing, for me biff catches are far more numerous than good spin stop/drops.
