QUICHE, COOKED INSIDE AND OUT. The Camp Cook Series #1

  • When you're on a camping trip or staying in a remote cabin, not everything has to be barbecued or cooked in a frypan. In this video I demonstrate how to cook a quiche by conventional methods and also when camping or in off grid situations. I cook one quiche indoors and the other outside on my gas grill with a Coleman camping oven. Easy to follow recipe.

    MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
    Video of icebox:
    Video of Gas Refrigerator:
    Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Absolutely amazing! I used the frozen pie crust and added baby portobello mushrooms. I had an amazing dinner while looking out the window at three of your birdhouses. You are truly an inspiration. God bless.

That was delicious I bet JC... I will be trying that recipe for sure in days ahead! Never made it before and it is my kind of meal that will satisfy the taste buds without a doubt! I like to use the frozen store bought pie shells as well. I have a similar oven that fits my propane coleman stove that is a 2 burner, I take it with me when Winter camping in the canvas tent, sure is easy to keep the consistent desired heat with those! One of the best folding portable ovens I ever used. Thanks for sharing, I look forward to this series! Take care.

Just ate my first slice of your quiche LOVED IT! thanks. But i had two questions for you #1 i don't think you gave a time ( how long to cook it for). Mine went for 50 min. came out perfecto. #2 I also just ordered my colman camp oven how did you put that over the gas burner I could see tin foil in your video but was wondering how you set that up so the burner still worked thanks again for all the great vids brings back a lot of memories

    • @thebossoftheswamp
      @thebossoftheswamp  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Dan Moreno I didn't list a time because I'm demonstrating different cooking methods and I go by color and consistency more than anything. On average, they take about 45 minutes. The tin foil is inside the oven to help deflect and distribute the heat more evenly.

Just made your Quiche for my wife. They turned out wonderful. Tomorrow a friend and I are making some rocket stoves for his remote picnic site. should be better then a coleman stove because the bears always bite hole in all the plastic gas cans. How can I send you some pictures? I made a hewn log cabin out of cottonwood 35 years ago and it still looks great. I was off grid before it was in vogue. I tried the outlook account but it wouldn't send.

Well JC, they looked really good and by the smile on your face I guess they tasted good too!
I've cooked quiche without the crust, exactly the same method but just the ingredients in a well greased (with butter) ceramic dish. It's a good alternative for those with wheat allergies and slightly less heavy on the carbs, but as you say nothing beats a good quiche!

YUM! That looked darn tasty JC! Waiting for my invite to dinner, I guess it got lost in the mail, hahaha! Those camper ovens are tricky because they don't distribute heat well/evenly. I got the idea for a pizza stone from You Tube somewhere and put that in the bottom and darn if I didn't bake up a perfect pan of golden cornbread on my last camping trip. It worked perfect so you might give that a try. Kisses for the adorable Frankie!

Great looking quiche thanks for the recipe. It made me think back to camping season and the mountain man breakfast we make in our Dutch oven. 🍻

Kind of surprised that you didn't use your woodstove. Being winter - I know that you had it going.

This is my go to video every time I want to make quiche. I have a couple in the oven right now. I never much cared for quiche until I followed your recipe. Make it a couple times a year now ever since you posted this video. Hope you're doing well Boss :)

made two the other night for dinner and the leftovers for breakfast. they were great thanks for the recipe. make sure your veggies are good and dry after cooking or it will add too much juice to the pie making it gooey .
