My buddy spent his last day on earth on a hunt starting with a morning very much like this one. Don't take anything for granted and enjoy every minute cause it could be your last.
My buddy terry went the same way except a bit different. He went out elk hunting in co, came back in for brunch, chit chatting, then said he was goingout on the porch to catch a nap before everybody headed backout for the afternoon. Laid on the couch with a full belly, 3 generations in camp, and just Never woke up. Lucky bastard....

You did well. 2018 was a historically bad year in Montana. Being an east coast fool that chases bids out there its one of the best places for those that have no access to public land to go. Always be sure to stop at local businesses and tell them what you seek, Montanan's want you there and will reward reasonable people with lifetime opportunities
If you looked at their map they had it said 2017 season.

does anyone know how the possession limits are regulated/enforced in a situation like this? I would love to do a road trip though the Dakotas and MT but don't know how to handle this part of the logistics.

My Britt brought back a pheasant he pointed at 7 months with no training whatsoever. Breeder told me to wait until he was 2 years old to start him. Too bad. Gunner loves being out in the ice-cold water and chest-high rushes. He has found and brought back 4 more birds in one trip to the training farm. He will be groomed for Grouse in the UP and Pheasants in the Dakotas. After that, we may take a trip to Scotland or Ireland. The English were to snobbish for me.
8:08.....Willingness to travel.......that is it. You have to go to different areas away from your home turf. Maybe 20 miles; maybe 1800 miles away. My grouse hunting area is 664 miles away.
Sage Grouse is 3 days. Quail of any type is 800 miles for good hunting. Thank god for Subaru Outbacks.
You guys NEED the Internet, while the rest of us could care less. We go out to hunt the area. I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 64ST to keep me from getting lost. That is the only tech I take with me on a hunt. The phone is shut off. The laptop is back with the car. A map and compass are in my pocket. Let's go get lost!
2 years old to start training a pup?! That's insane. Training starts day one when they come home. I had my pup on bird sent after he knew sit and stay, probably within a month!
