    1:09:51 Markiplier's were pretty good. (A Date with Markiplier, A Heist with Markiplier, In Space with Markiplier.) Not every choice is the "right" choice, but every choice rewards you with something emotional or exciting or funny. (He took inspiration from the Henry Stickmin series, where the failures are more than half the fun.) And you feel at least somewhat invested in the characters (if that's your thing), whereas I didn't care about anybody in Bandersnatch. You can also see how long the videos are, which avoids Brady's complaint of constantly wondering when you're going to get to make a decision. I would say TH-cam's UI makes the whole thing easier to navigate, too.

    What i'm about to say isn't an indictment or judgement of anyone. Merely an observation. So here goes.
    I think Grey's sentiment of "maybe we should just roll the dice?" in regards to brexit, is how many people felt when voting for Trump.

    • @MissKoalaFace
      @MissKoalaFace 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The only reason he's supporting the dice roll is because Brexit is already happening, he thinks may as well go all in. When people were voting for Trump, he wasn't already a forgone conclusion.

    • @ZipplyZane
      @ZipplyZane 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That's just the sunk cost fallacy. If Brexit was bad before, it remains bad, and you should still support it ending. There is no reason to stick with a bad decision simply because you've already made it.
      The problem with "let's roll the dice" in this case is that there is literally no chance that Brexit comes out ahead. We now have the data, and even the most favorable Brexit costs the UK money albeit less than 10% GDP.
      All forms of Brexit leave the UK worse off. It's not risk. It's a certainty. The only question is how bad we lose.
      And I say we, because the UK having trouble will harm the global market, same as the recession in the US harmed the global market.

    • @MissKoalaFace
      @MissKoalaFace 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@ZipplyZane Grey isn't choosing between Brexit and Non-Brexit, he's choosing between Full Brexit and Wishy-washy Brexit. He's assuming *a* Brexit will happen as that's what the population voted for.

    • @Njald
      @Njald 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to grass roots engaement and desire for societal change, I think that the one's voting for Trump might actually have achieved that goal. Not because of Trump's actions, but because of everyone elses reaction to the fuckwit.
      I don't condone "burning everything down because you don't like the status quo" but at least you'll get a chance to rebuild something better once Trump and the worst of the GOP are cleansed away.
      Assuming the US actually manages to do that. Currently I'm not convinced that the neo-nobility running the US will let "regular Americans" decide anything. The tools to supress are refined every day.

    • @ZipplyZane
      @ZipplyZane 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah. But it's still the sunk cost fallacy. It just move Brexit to the "sunk cost" spot.
      You should decide what to do based on which available options will cause the least harm (or the most good, if that were available). You should not choose based on "We already committed, so do it as much as possible."
      There are multiple scenarios. You can look and see that staying in the Customs union costs the least. May's deal is somewhere near the middle. And then hard Brexit is the worst possible.
      There is no reason to roll the dice on the option that costs the most. Hard Brexit was bad before Brexit was decided, and it remains bad now.
      You should still pick the last bad option, not the one that is most consistent with your past actions. Not doing so is a fallacy.

    About youtube annotations: Frequently they break for me and don't show up at all. My annotations are on according to the video settings, but sometimes (not all the time) when I reach the end card of a video there's just awkward grey boxes and empty space where the annotations would be. Most end cards would be better if there was something underneath the annotations, even before the complete removal of them.

    I loved Bandersnatch. I watched without actually knowing it was interactive, so it caught me really off guard, and It was great! I was so excited and surprised. I'm glad that they put me on a generally, linear path. It's a movie. Remeber, it is a movie, not an choose your own adventure and I took it as that. I watched it once, and that was my story. And I think that making the obvious decision that makes you instantly fail does have a very important purpose. When you redo that section, the character has information that was gained through the failed run. That's really important information to give to the player/watcher.

    Personally, I think the removal of annotations is a good lesson to creators that you shouldn't create videos based on the proprietary implementations of a specific platform. If the feature doesn't work in an arbitrary standalone video player, then don't put it in your video. To Brady's concern, for the vast majority of viewers you always looked like fools saying "click here" or "press there" because most people already had annotations disabled. Lastly, perhaps I'm just used to update cycles, but as soon as google removed the ability to create new annotations I thought the message was crystal clear that the feature had been deprecated and would be removed eventually.

      By that logic, videos should not rely on great visuals because they won't translate well if they have to be converted to books. No, it was a feature provided by TH-cam and people were cleverly implementing them. Before TH-cam shat on them there was no indication they wouldn't be here forever so of course people used them. We shouldn't have to write our content assuming that TH-cam will remove features.

    • @jayjeckel
      @jayjeckel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kadabraguy9846 There are a lot of things people "shouldn't have" to do, but that's life. If you think that TH-cam, much less a single feature they offer will be available forever, then you're being naive. Nothing lasts forever, either literally or figuratively, especially where technology and the internet are concerned.
      Also, your analogy sucks. What I said would more accurately translate to "don't write your books to rely on features that are only supported by a single chain of book stores or libraries".

    i know for a fact that instagram cracks down on people spam following. one of my classmates started a fan account about another classmate as a joke, and they wanted to get as many followers on it as possible. so they started following like everyone our age in our area and got well into the thousands before they received a notice that the account had been disabled for a week.

    6:49 I don't understand what "joke" Grey and Brady think there is to be "in on" here. Where's the joke in assuming the song means what it says, instead of just _making things up_ and then insisting that the thing you've _made up_ is what the song really means? "On the [X] day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: [list of things they gave]." By any reasonable interpretation, the list is what their true love gave them _on that day._ You can _say_ that the words mean something else, but you would be making things up. Authorial intent is all fine and good, but we don't know the author's intent, we just know what the song _actually says,_ and what the song _actually says_ plainly indicates that the gifts repeat. (Besides, thinking about authorial intent means having the wisdom to realize that if the song _wasn't_ meant to imply repeating gifts, the author probably wouldn't have chosen to write it in a way that so clearly implies repeating gifts!)

    On Brexit, it's not quite that simple: In a general election they said they'd have a referendum, and they won a majority, then the parliament overwhelmingly voted to allow the referendum, then they all said it wouldn't be rerun even if the result was close, then the referendum happened, then in the following general election the only party suggesting a rerun only got 7.4% of the vote share.
    A referendum has never been rerun in the UK with the same question, and they're a rare thing, with us only ever having 3 national referendums in the existence of the UK. In the EU, however, referendums have been rerun - in some cases being rerun multiple times until the people give the "right answer" - that's why rerunning it would be seen as a complete betrayal and totally undemocratic by so many people.
    This is especially the case seeing as lots of the arguments for rerunning it feel like strawman arguments - with nobody refuting the idea that people (the European Commission) who are not directly elected, who are practically unaccountable to the people, are creating laws. The only power that the people directly voted for (MEPs) have is to block things that come from the commission - they can't get the ball rolling on new changes - so if we want something that is bad changed then it's in the hands of the commission.
    Finally, I think we'd need approval to extend article 50 in order to run a referendum, and that my have to be until after the European elections, which the EU has said will never happen, as we'd have to take part in those elections.

    The reason people say that a re-vote would be "undemocratic" is because we all *know* that if the vote went the other way their would be no second referendum. The de facto implication is "vote this way and we will probably make you vote again" or "vote this way and it's set in stone". Doesn't help when you look up the history of EU-related voting.

    "Rolling the dice" is exactly why I voted for Donald Trump. I figured, maybe he does good, maybe he does bad - but he will certainly shake things up and make people think about government in a new way. It's exposed some really interesting aspects of the government and how much or little members are fulfilling their roles.

    • @pXnTilde
      @pXnTilde 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Audio Indie In a word, no.
      When you roll dice you are implicitly accepting the consequences of a bad roll and therefore preferring it to whatever alternative. That said, I do not lament my vote and would indeed vote the same way, and will vote for him again unless he is responsible for something terrible (e.g., betraying the democracy, or crashing the economy.) He has done fewer things that I disagree with than I expected but also fewer things that I hoped he would.
      Insofar as has been possible he has done his best to do those things he said he would and I respect that. I approve, even if only softly, of most of this views. He has exposed how vial and self serving the government truly is, and how utterly parasitic traditional news is - both loyal to money beyond anything else (which isn't to suggest it's particularly surprising.) and I think that's one of the most positive impacts he's had. I disapprove of Clinton very fundamentally and have before Trump was on the scene, thus partly I was voting against the wrong lizard.
      And finally, I believe that local governments are best suited to their population and in that regard he was the better choice. Sates are capable of cooporation, and there is monumental power in being able to parallelize programs and laws; I support deregulations, reduction of federal reach, and turning away from political globalism (I support social globalism for the most part.) I believe that sovereign territory has a right and duty to protect itself (both from military invasion as well as more abstract things such as dumping resources into protecting and supporting illegal aliens even despite empathetic feelings towards many of them.) This extends to the EU. There is nothing the EU does that could not be done without it. Again, states are capable of cooporation (compare the EU to the UN,) and the EU, like any other sufficiently abstracted governing body, is plagued with subterfuge, and it's largely undemocratic.
      For what it's worth, I classify as centrist leaning liberal/libertarian, but I don't identify with any particular ideology, preferring to examine things individually.
      tl;dr It's not so much that I believed in his campaign promises and more that I was okay with it. For better or for worse he certainly shook things up, although it's impossible to assess that while it's happening so we'll have to wait to reflect on his legacy.

      That sounds like a problem with your podcasting app. A podcast is just an RSS feed, and once you have the URL, your podcasting app should just check the feed (on the HelloInternet website).
      Either you don't have the right RSS feed, or your app isn't checking it often enough. Or you're using something that actually isn't a podcasting app. (In that case, download a proper podcasting app, or listen from the official site or here on TH-cam.)
