@@canyunhicks1587 I felt the same way because it looks like he is limp wristed. However, i think he is merely showing the forms (patterns of combat movement.) Fight first, fight fast, fight dirty ... just do it. But never bully anyone. Never harm another who is innocent. Never hurt anyone who is not an imminent threat to you.... lest you fail and fall

My dad was in Burma during WWII. He remained in awe of the Gurkhas, who fought along his side, his whole life. He told me many stories about them, including the ceremony where they take a cows head off. He gave me the Kukri he brought back, but it was, unfortunately, stolen. He also used to speak of the Kachins, Burmese natives who were fighting the Japanese Occupation. Didn't want to mess with those guys either.

I have been following Mr. Vandenberg for a long time and this video is taken out of context and edited from a documentary “March with the Devil.” In the documentary, he was talking here about his Gorkhali Khukuri teacher who is a Christian not a Hindu and married to a Christian Karen woman in Burma. He was not talking about all Gorkhali who in general are Hindu and don’t eat or kill cows but worship them. He served in FFL best unit the 2rep with ex special ops and elite soldiers from all over the world and many Gorkhali too. Some of the Serbians who served with him are now part of the Pink Panther diamond heist gang. He is truly a unique individual and to me he is just being respectful here to his teacher in Burma and other Gorkhali he served with in the Legion. Respect for this warrior for me.

I don't know anything about Mr. Vandenberg. I've never heard of him before, and this is the first video I've ever seen of him. My initial thought was that his eyes say "He's not afraid to die"
And then he started talking about "the state of no mind", and after these 3:43 minutes, I'm inclined to think I'm either psychic, or he's leaning towards the real deal.
I'm very interested in learning how his fighting style can be "exceptional", and at the same time more open and arm-flailing than Al Harrington's Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tubeman Emporium and Warehouse.

If you ever get the change to bevriend a gurka, he will most likely show you his kukri but he surely will first draw a little blood with a nick on the thumb.

The kaudi prevents blood from running on to the blade yes indeed but is also use to inflict a small cut on the young gurkas hand when the blade is handed down to him. If you ever get the change to bevriend a gurka he will most likely show you his kukri but he surely will first draw a little blood with a nick on the thumb.
There are short and long khukri and they are a lot lighter then the ones that are made for the western market and yes for all the warriors on here no one that spends 5 years in the french foreign legions elite 2 rep unit needs to try to be cool wankers they just are bad ass soldiers. Ronin.

Nice moves, I just had 2 Khukuris made, both are the M 43 styles, one is 13" long and quite thick, a little heavy to carry all day long, so I had the 2nd one made smaller, 10", and 7m/m thick, white/cream bone handle, the other one has black buffalo handle, both are 5160, your right, the Khukuri is my favorite too.

the notch at the beginning of the blade near the guard is made to stop blood from dripping all the way to the handle and making the handle too slippery in combat to a point where the user could actually loose it they would have no interest in making their finger bleed because it would also spread blood on the handle causing the very same problem

As an edged weapon lifelong student, I can see these are probably the ultimate weapons to take into a knife fight. But you simply cannot carry these around in case of self defense...if you ever had to use them and then explain yourself subsequently in court, you are going to look like a complete psychopath. Its a shame because they have huge advantages as far as edged weapons go. Defending against a regular blade is already incredibly difficult, with the way these blades curve forward and the tip heavy balance and associated velocity of the mass.....most defense techniques are going to come up fairly short. Also, those Kukri blades are far more shatter resistant than the usual steel we are used to seeing in sub 1,000 dollar edged weapons....that is because they are hand forged using old leaf springs from amiercan cars...and you can imagine how strong that steel must be to begin with...and then after hand forging over and over...its damn near the closest thing you can get economically to an ancient Japanese sword.

Paulie, and others looking at this video, be very careful if you try to imitate what you see here. He might be able to get away with flicking around two blades, but frequently violates a core principle of kukri combat in not respecting the safety zone. Example being in minute 2:22 where he is making a deep long diagonal cut down with his right. It is heading toward his left knee. Should clear this by stepping. In answer to Jeremy, yes, they are more typically used singly, not in pairs.

Forget that. He was in the FFL, but builds on stories that are fake when questioned deeper. Example? he writes that they drove at night without headlights and heard crackling. When they switched on the light, they saw it was dead bodies on the street. Who can drive a car through foreign jungle or city if they can't even see the bodies on the road because it's so dark? Just like the story with the Kukri. As a Belgian and French soldier, would he have had a kukri with him? In addition to the combat knife? Ridiculous. No, he writes the stories to stay alive because otherwise he's only a C-class actor. What he really did there, for example the gigantic jump off the shoulder of a comrade in Mont Luis, is just not enough.

Kukri notch isn’t for blood and other fantastic stories. Absurd. It is a symbol of Shiva plus fertility and the reminder that sacred animals like cows etc plus women and children cannot be killed. It isn’t even really sharp. Also it is a shape of cows footprint. Enough to look at the historical sources . Those are not Gurkhas techniques at all. It looks like some sort of karate.
