Bring two compound bows, elk caller, boar caller, predator caller, goose long caller/duck long caller, scent killer, and some binoculars doesn't matter what kind but preferably a range finder. (Practice in the shooting range on all booths, empty a whole hundred arrows in each booth, practice, practice, practice.) Once you're finished in the shooting range and confident with your shots. Head to Pawnee meadows. Once you spawn in, turn right and go behind your cabin maybe 70 yards and hide out in all that tall grass right between those two ponds. Use your duck or goose caller once or twice and wait. You'll start to see a bunch of birds flying directly at you if you stand in the sweet spot. (Note : If your having issues finding that sweet spot, it's right on the edge of the tall grass of the pond on your right, once you're behind the cabin. You'll see a gap in the tall grass and to the right of said gap is a tree, you wanna stand on the left side of it a little and walk to the edge of the tall grass line furthest away from the tree in the direction of the opposite pond on the corner of that gap.) The ducks here seem to come from all angles at first but there's really only maybe 4 paths that they take on their way to the opposite pond. Memorize them, stand in the sweet spot and use that duck caller every once in awhile. Its an intense blast once you get decent at using that compound bow to shoot them out of mid flight. You don't need a retriever cause they won't be in the water but if you don't feel like searching for them run a few yards away to your cabin, refill on arrows, equip your companion and tell him to retrieve your ducks while you sit at your front door and smoke a joint while he's doing his business. Some ducks do fall in the water if you nail a long shot so it's nice to have a retriever. Once he's finished send him back inside and tell him good boy. Cause he'll spook the big game if they just so happen to walk on your property lol. If you see bigger game call it in, and wait in the tall grass opposite pond from where the elk or boar (Whatever) is coming from. Predators like to use a lot of cover so this strategy leaves them no choice but to come out in the open. If you decide to stay in the small bushes in the middle then cool it works too, but know that you might wanna spray some scent killer so that the animal will move in closer to you and get out of all that pesky tall grass. (Note : On average most animals can smell you from exactly 50 yards away or less, they may stand still at 30ish yards and sniff in the air, you can take a shot quickly and get the kill but they won't stand there and sniff the air for too long. If you have scent killer on they won't spot you until they are about 7-10 yards away depending on if you don't move an inch, this allows multiple animals to come straight to you, go for the closet one first and work to the furthest one away from you. I'd recommend only using scent killer if there's a cougar around. Or three elks and a bobcat. Doing this makes your money back and some.) All the animals all in one spot right next to the cabin, just pass the time by duck hunting and shooting them out of the air, trust me you'll be having so much fun that, that patience shit isn't gonna be a problem anymore, if it was a problem for you. I know this is a month late, but if you're still wondering (or for anyone else having similar issues), only the retriever can retrieve ducks/geese from water. Fwiw, each dog breed has its specialty: - The retriever fetches birds for you, including from the water. - The pointer is best for flushing game out of certain tall grass locations. Note that while all three breeds can flush game, the pointer will pause to "point" when it spots prey rather than jumping on it immediately. This allows you to get into position behind the dog before giving the final command for it to pounce, which then scares the bird into flight for you to shoot. - The beagle is supposed to be able to distract big game by barking at it while you shoot, but this seems to be bugged since the animals just run away regardless. I haven't found anything else the beagle excels at over other breeds once fully trained, which is too bad because imo it's the best looking of the three.
