Naomi was one of the only two legendary creatures I pulled from pre release so I built a deck out of her to do an Orzhov Token thing, works surprisingly well. Since she makes a token on ETB I run a bunch of flicker effects and just generate a bunch of samurai.
Funny how you mention Prosper. Had a friend build a cEDH with Prosper. Twin flame became OP with them if we didn't run some kind of removal. Currently in the works of building a boarderline cEDH Hinata deck
I think we can all appreciate how mono/White has a couple wonderful commanders in this set, and even out the less powerful ones they’re middle of the pack or higher when compared to their counterparts
I made a Samurai brawl deck on arena with Raiyuu that's been doing quite good with a couple of equipments attached & all those triggers from other samurai it gets out of hand pretty fast.
I think Katsumasa is going to be VERY popular in vehicle decks, and here's why:1.)It effectively has a built in crew cost, not great for vehicles with a small crew cost(2 or less),but for larger ones(4 or more) it's value. 2.)It gives a vehicle an evasion ability(flying.) 3.)It puts +1/+1 counters on your vehicles, which is a decent buff. 4.)It can turn your non- creature artifacts that aren't vehicles into 1/1 creatures, which can then help crew other vehicles,or just hang around as chump blockers.
Re: the myojin, I would simply ask my play group to rule zero away the "cast from the hand" text. If a card would be better without certain text, this is always an option and part of the beauty of this game
Love the video! Definitely helpful for organizing the commanders and getting an idea of maybe a build path for each! I do feel like you undervalued the red dragon Atsushi. Red does not have much in reanimation, sure, but it’s one of the best for copy effects like Twinflame and Splinter Twin. You make lots of copies, then sac the copies for the dies trigger. Reanimation isn’t needed at all, and I think that makes this one of the best of the Dragon Spirits, up there with the blue one Kairi.
Just want to say something about Kaima, since you and several other people have brought up the same thing: goad is normally the kind of thing that can draw a lot of hate, and if you're almost exclusively using auras that are only good for you/detrimental to your opponents (such as a lot of the ones you showcased in your deck tech) then you definitely will. What I think is really interesting about that commander is its ability to avoid the hate by using purely beneficial auras; like sure, I'm forcing your creature to attack, but I'm giving it +3/+3 and trample or whatever. Basically, I think it's best to almost think of Kaima as a group hug style deck, make people less likely to target you by earnestly helping them out instead of openly scheming. The fact that there is some risk associated with that (i.e. when your commander leaves play, they can turn on you) can be framed as proof that you're not trying to be outright manipulative. That's a big part of what I find so interesting about Kaima, you just have to be more political about how you use them.
Kotose is what you build if you're really tired of a friend's constant playing of a Dragon's Approach or Persistent Petitioners and whatnot style deck, but you'd rather be passive aggressive about it than bring it up in a Rule 0 conversation.
I have a greasefang deck I play with in Historic Brawl on MTGA (am too broke for the actual deck atm lol), and the fact that you can consistently grab out shit like a Parhellion II on turn 4 is amazing, and is balanced out by the fact that Vehicles aren't really the best thing ever in a vacuum. TLDR: Rat biker is fun
Junji has an infinite combo with a sac outlet and Conspiracy. Since he becomes something nondragon, you just choose him to reanimate. You get infinite dies triggers, etb's, and whatever ability you sac outlet is providing.
i really like that there are still cards like the myojin that aren't designed for commander. i feel like the constant stream of "for commander" designs have been hurting the format a little.
as for you words on kyodai its finally not just me saying this kyodai could be the next golos of "any theme you want" commander not power level but you can do any theme with her you make certain cards the real commanders and kyodai can grant those indesetructible easy example is your real commanders is blim or Zedruu for bad gifts deck kyodai can give either indestructible
I chose to build Satoru Umezawa as an artifact creature commander without Blightsteel. Still fun to throw a Metalwork Colossus or Triplicate Titan at your opponents on turn 4.
I may be wrong but the white legendary dragon says total cmc 4 or less….. the way I read it was all the cards you pick from your top seven have to have the total cmc of 4 or less…. Like one card has a cmc of 3 the other has a cmc of 1…. Not just getting all cards with cmc 4 or less?
Yeah I feel as tho people are sleeping on the new ninjutsu commanders in this set. By turn 4 you could drop out an Eldrazi with satoru. Or just have a battle trigger effect or enter the battlefield effect. Would be devastating. Blue and black together helps them both extremely well.
Atsushi has a nice 3 card combo. With thornbite staff and splinter twin you get infinite treasures and exile your whole library. From there you can win with a fireball effect
Go-shintai’s might see more play then expected due to shapeshifters, the 5 mana basically everything is a shapeshifter, the other enchantments that turn cards into a chosen type, amorphous axe. So play tokens/good creatures, tutor/draw, and bam, a board of shrines.
I think you misread Ao, the Dawn Sky's text. It says TOTAL mana value, not just mana value 4 or less. That means you can only get up to 4 mana in value every time you sac it. I am new to the game though so maybe I am the one whos wrong.
why should you play fateful Absence in a deck where hinata is your commander ? its a bad removal spell that draws your opponent a card you have better options in blue and white to remove creatures
You could probably get away with a Setsuki secret commander with Sisay. Give you access to all 5 colors and then rip her straight from the deck decently fast. After that you could pull legends that care about enchantments like Sythis, Tuvasa, Ghen, Hanna, and maybe end with Atraxa for more lore counters
'Next up at number 44...' I almost lost my shit. They make 44 mechanically new legandariess in a set plus commander deck? That's ridiculous. Up until 2 years ago or so I knew basically every single card that saw play in the format. That's pretty much impossible to keep up with now. And yes I understand original kamigawa was already a set centered around legends, but this trend happens in all the recent sets. Plus with a single set per plane instead of an entire block, there's no time to get accustomed to a plane anymore. The sets all feel unimportant, which must be why they revisit old planes so much, since they were established in a multi set block back in the day, so people learned to like them. All of this might just be personal of course.
I don't get why everyone is so hung up on the Myojin... clearly they're not meant to be commanders, but are meant to be played in the 99. Just because a creature is legendary doesn't mean it needs to be good as a commander. Yes, I get that they are terrible as commanders due to the "play from hand" clause, but they're not designed to be commanders. Legendary Creature=/=Commander. The same thing applies to the mono-colored shrines... no one is playing a mono-color shrine deck. That's not the point of shrine decks.
I think my main issue with that is they are for the commander expanaion of the set but don't work well as commanders. All they had to do was make it 'cast from your hand or the command zone'.
Using shield of duty and reason, mask of law and grace, flickering ward, and stuff like all that glitters can easily make light-paw a massive etched champion commander. She's honestly broken. A much faster zur
I'm confused. Did you really not see that some of them (myojin and shrines specifically, but others too) legendaries are made to build in non singleton format, or not commander at all? In-game mechanics are balanced by 3 things mainly, legendary type, color combinations and cmc. It felt strange to see cards obviously made to be in deck even be considered in your list.
I'd argue Kura is the worst of the Dragons. It can only typically return to hand not recur straight to field nor clone and the pay off just isn't great, and there's only like...five or six worthwhile Regrowths and none are really just infinitely reusable outside like infinite bouncing E-Wit with like Temur Sabertooth. Black and White can recur straight to field and Red can also clone like Blue (Rionya giving you like two new Atsushi who die instantly to fuel an Aggravated Assault sounds good to me) and have better pay offs.
Given that you went on to talk about clones and Kairi, and that there's an abundance of Splinter Twin adjecant cards, it's weird hearing you lament how hard it is to build around Atsushi.
I’m not really hyped for this set. Innistrad was lame too. Kind of weird because they came out with kaldheim and strixhaven back to back and those were banger commander sets
Hey Demmo I’d love to see a video talking about some of your first commander decks, if you still play any and why you don’t play others.
this video covers some of this: th-cam.com/video/IQAtnjB6EUk/w-d-xo.html
as does this one: th-cam.com/video/AhzJcf4usEw/w-d-xo.html
You’re my new favorite content creator for mtg. Thank you for helping a busy overworked commander lover stay in the know on what’s new with kamigawa.
you are welcome good sir.
Demo: "there's no other proliferate commander in the entire format"
Roalsk, Apex Hybrid: "Am I a joke to you?!"
yes roalesk, you are. sorry.
Yawgmoth: *waves*
Can't forget Papa Phyrexia himself, Yawgmoth

Just built a Tatsunari sagas deck. Love it. Quickly became archenemy with all the shenanigans adding/removing lore counters from the sagas.
What do you use to add or remove lore counters ?
Funny how you mention Prosper. Had a friend build a cEDH with Prosper. Twin flame became OP with them if we didn't run some kind of removal. Currently in the works of building a boarderline cEDH Hinata deck

Thanks demo! Good vid! I almost have my Kosei deck completed and thinking about either Hidetsugu or Isshin
Love the video! Definitely helpful for organizing the commanders and getting an idea of maybe a build path for each!

Recently been seeing alot of gravecrawler shinigans too, kotose seems interesting in a blink style deck

The myojin will need the ozolith. Those counters could really work.
Demo you're still misunderstanding Ao's first ability. It's *TOTAL* CMC 4 or less
Junji has an infinite combo with a sac outlet and Conspiracy. Since he becomes something nondragon, you just choose him to reanimate. You get infinite dies triggers, etb's, and whatever ability you sac outlet is providing.
The shrines should have "Partner With another Shrine"
i really like that there are still cards like the myojin that aren't designed for commander. i feel like the constant stream of "for commander" designs have been hurting the format a little.
glad you've revalued isshin ;)
as for you words on kyodai

Interesting way to visit this set. First ones are great
28:50 I mean yeah he's like aurelia. But he isn't a bazillion mana to cast, so you can actually _win_ with it
I may be wrong but the white legendary dragon says total cmc 4 or less….. the way I read it was all the cards you pick from your top seven have to have the total cmc of 4 or less…. Like one card has a cmc of 3 the other has a cmc of 1…. Not just getting all cards with cmc 4 or less?

Can you put archangel avacyn in Under underwhelming commanders

Sadly Shrine is an enchantment type, not a creature type
Kotose is going into Yuriko, because it's a nice insurance policy against Shadowborne Apostles and Persistent Petitioners.
I think you misread Ao, the Dawn Sky's text. It says TOTAL mana value, not just mana value 4 or less. That means you can only get up to 4 mana in value every time you sac it. I am new to the game though so maybe I am the one whos wrong.
you are not wrong. i think i worded it weird in the video.
Please consider making a Greasefang deck tech. They're so interesting to me
Ao is totally going into my Gaddock Teeg deck. That ability is dumb with him.
why should you play fateful Absence in a deck where hinata is your commander ?
its a bad removal spell that draws your opponent a card you have better options in blue and white to remove creatures

You're ignoring how great it is that Shorikai is a vehicle. That means it isn't a creature, so it's immune to creature removal.
'Next up at number 44...' I almost lost my shit. They make 44 mechanically new legandariess in a set plus commander deck? That's ridiculous. Up until 2 years ago or so I knew basically every single card that saw play in the format. That's pretty much impossible to keep up with now.

Can you cast exsanguinate off Nashi and just profit?
Kura plus Greater Good?
Thought Ao said “total mana value”
I'm confused.

I love your videos and using a lot of your strategies for my self i would love to see a reality chip deck tech i dont know i like this selly jelly
i would make a psychic battle deck.
shigeki is the one card that goes in anything it is really good.
Ao is total mana value 4 or less. Most likely hitting only a couple of things off the dies trigger.
I just wish the yamazakis had partner
Personally my top 3 is; ishin, light paws, and that frog ninja
Katsmasa is like a blue Karn
Atsushi works great with "heat shimmer" type effects.
I'd argue Kura is the worst of the Dragons. I think in a year, there will be nobody playing Go-Shitnai of Life's Origin as a commander. He'll be in the 99 of a Sisay, Weatherlight Captain deck.
Given that you went on to talk about clones and Kairi, and that there's an abundance of Splinter Twin adjecant cards, it's weird hearing you lament how hard it is to build around Atsushi.
Not related to Commander, but does Jin-Gataxius seem even remotely beatable in Draft?
goro-goro sound for me like a play strong creatures and give them haste or if you want to waste your mana play modifications xD
The Myojins would be so much better if it just said "cast it"
I wonder if people would be ok if somebody in their playgroup ruled 0 the myojins to always trigger even from the command zone? Could be cool to see
Plus Kairi is one sided board wipe for tokes
First
I’m not really hyped for this set. Innistrad was lame too. Kind of weird because they came out with kaldheim and strixhaven back to back and those were banger commander sets
