I've been searching oil pastel tutorial that is not too basic but still something I can understand as an ordinary person. Than I found you. This is the best oil pastel tutorial and presentation I've ever watch. Your video, music, instructions, and explanation are the arts itself. God bless you.
Your description is as artistic as your work. As is your choice of music. All three are deeply appreciated. I love the warm background of orange paper poking through here and there.
I love oil pastels for their vibrancy and immediacy, yet have struggled to find quality instructional videos. Thank you so much for this one! Absolutely helpful in so many ways, I took down so many notes and am going to do this painting today!
This is the most beautiful oil pastel painting I’ve seen. I always wanted to try oil pastels, and this piece made me finally buy the sticks. Thank you!
@@lizadivine3785 yea...I don't own a lot of oil and soft pastels. Oil pastels are nothing but fancy crayon. Nobody really uses them but a select few. They are always on sale at any art store. Always the only item that is always in sale. They can't be compared to soft pastel. They should not even be considered an art medium. In that case a crayon is a medium. Which in a sense it is but anything painted with either one is basically worthless unless it's 75 years old.
So glad you added that bright orange red towards the end. I tend to be very detail oriented, so I see this medium offering an opportunity to try a more "loose and expressive" art. I didn't know about harder oil pastels. Thanks for the instructive demonstration. It was inspiring.
Can't tell you what kind of feeling your painting gave me! But I guess it's most probably artistic and encouraging! Love your tutorials so so so sooooo much!
this is by far, the best oil pastel demonstration I've seen on youtube, thanks for sharing, I was looking for oil pastels techniques that don't use blending, the result is stunning!
i have to agree with Michelle here. this was a beautifully produced lesson incorporating an abundance of information . i usually have to watch the lessons more then once to catch all the bits of info that you throw out there as you are creating the art. thanks ,tom
Made this painting today with the help of your tutorial as im just 10 days old in oil pastels. It came out quite well. Thanku for such nice tutorial that even a beginner like me could make a nice art piece
Wow! Thank you so much for this lesson! This is literally the first and only good oil pastel painting I’ve ever seen. Every other oil pastel painting looks so amateur, I was starting to think the medium just couldn’t be taken seriously. But your painting is so beautiful. It has all the great qualities of both oil and soft pastel. I just love it. I hope to see some more in the future. Thank you again.
I had no idea how "new" oil pastels were as a medium, 1949. Nor did I know Picasso was the impetus. But 15 years later, I was introduced to cray-pas in the 3rd grade, in 1964. It was the first time I liked school. Wish I'd never walked away from art. Now enjoying them again. Thank you!
I’m gonna give this one a go. I recently purchased 3 different sets of oil pastels. A Sennelier portrait set of 24, a Mungyo Gallery Professional set of 48 (highly recommend) and Paul Rubens light pastel colors set of 36. I really haven’t given all of them a real workout yet. However, I did a swatch design of the Mungyo set on a high quality Ampersand Gessobord (highly recommend) and it showed off this set in a fabulous way. Very smooth lay down and it“dried” to an almost velvet touch. The Paul Rubens “extra light” pastel color set included many lovely shades but many of the colors were so close that they were virtual duplicates. Using a small canvas board, I did a little abstract design. found them to be very creamy, but sticky and tending to roll up too easily into little bits. Then because they had so much white in them to get those very light colors, they looked a bit hazy to me upon finishing. The Sennelier set that I just swatched on some oil painting paper, had the same stickiness quality but with less little bits like the Paul Rubens. Sennelier oil pastels are at the top in reviews and recommendations and I think with more experience using them, I’ll probably enjoy them as much as the Mungyo. With Paul Rubens, made in China, their watercolor line enjoys very high ratings and is considered “artist/pro” quality. Not sure if that same rating can be extended to their oil pastels, (didn’t see a ton of reviews for this particular set on Amazon (70 4.5 stars or YT) but I’ll see as I put them into real use. The Mungyo art brand, and particularly their oil pastels, made in Korea, also get high ratings on Amazon (this set 1,542 4.5 stars) and by artists on YT. And on Amazon, both the Mungyo and PR sets 2 sets are priced in the low $20 range. I paid about $52 for the Sennelier set (made in France) at my local fine art supply store...I think they were on sale...and that price or higher is the going rate. I intend to get a set of the highly recommended Cray-pas too. Thanks!
I just got a set of oil pastels and I was unsatisfied by a majority of application techniques I was coming across on, but I loved your way of using the pastels. The texture of the applications came through and created a gorgeous appearance. Thanks for being so inspirational and giving easy to understand instruction!
Absolutely gorgeous. Just found this vid as I've just discovered oil pastels and need some guidance. Thank you for the calming instructions and the excellent art. Peace and love from the UK.
Really enjoyed that lesson, thank you. I've just switched from soft pastels for health reasons, so it's great to see what can be done. But of course, you are a very talented artist, who makes it all look easy!
That’s wow I’ve just got oil pastels I use other mediums and am doing am exsam in crafts and art so you given me confidence to have a go with them xx thank you xx 🙏😀 xx 😘
So beautiful artwork. The instructions are to the point and give me a better insight to this medium. Got my first oil pastels set and I 'd like to try something based on the technique you showed here. Thank you for the video and the music selection which makes me feel calmer and more creative.
Please try to make more oil pastel tutorials...I love your works so much and I have got that opportunity to make my skills better.. thank you so much...💙💙💙
Just incredibly beautiful. I paint in watercolors and acrylics but was looking to try something else and was looking at a box of oil pastels. Not knowing how to approach the art medium, I didn’t buy the pastels. Now, back to the store to purchase them and try this wonderful medium. Please tell us how to seal the finished painting and how to frame it.
You probably by now found the pastel fixative spray 😉 Hair spray is the baggers option to a pastel fixative spray, but doesn't work as well whilst getting the job done though. As per framing, it really depends on the picture and taste. Some like a Banksy on a extravagant frame. Others fancy them self a picture in cubism style with a minimalistic plastic frame.
Beautiful artwok.. I often use pastel when I was a kid for poster making..this reminds me of my childhood but you are far better than me...I Just started a Art Channel this tips are very helpful. Going continue the grind and I should practice more often.
That is a great great tutorial. I loved it. Could you please make more of these explained and detailed how to color with acrylic paints on wild flowers as well.

They are basically crayons lol. You never used a crayon?
@@toussaintlouverture5149 you clearly are a noob because the pigments in crayons vs pastels are way different. Go to sleep.
@@toussaintlouverture5149 no they are creamy like lipstick. I can tell you don’t make art.

If I could like this twice I would. I have been struggling to use my new Paul Ruben soft oil pastels and this made a world of difference!
pastels are between purgatory and hell. 🙏🙏 i’m grateful for the video, and SUPER grateful you’re creating one of my all time favorite subjects

Thank you. I struggled with oil pastels. But I love them. I was using them wrong.
Nice work. They look really soft pastels, adding light over dark. Can't do that with cheaper ones.
