I am so grateful to have found this channel and particular episode! Finally I can complete the TWO dresses that have been sitting around waiting for me to have the confidence to line them.
Wow! I’ve done linings before, but I was looking for a better way, and oh my goodness, the method for the shoulder straps!!! 🥰 I feel like I’ve just been told the secret of the universe! Thank you!!!
Can't thank you enough for this tutorial! I have to make 15 dresses for our hula halau (school) and the straps are only 1 inch wide. It was a life saver!
well you just saved my life XD I bought a pattern with lining and it did have written instructions but I had't understood a pip... seeing it is another thing 💕
I had made up a kind of way to do the shoulder section, and it involved an occasional little tear! I LOVE the clear and precise way you've shown your REAL method for this. What a delight you are!!
What a fabulous tutorial! It’s great to learn new ways to line dresses. I love lining everything as love how pretty it makes the inside of garments. Thank you 💕💐
This was very very useful! I've always wondered how professional dresses had the lining attatched so that there is no stitching visible. Will definitely use this technique often. Thanks dear!
That was so helpful Lisa, thank you so much. I have come across these instructions in many children's clothes patterns and I've always botched it up, it just didn't make sense in written and picture form. Now I know what I have been doing wrong for the last 10 years. Yay
Oh, thank God. I was avoiding finishing my Betty muslin because I'm intimidated by the facing instructions in the pattern. I'll have to try this method!
Thanks, it's a great tutorial and it's been of great help. Please can I use this method for the regular zipper instead of the invisible zipper? How do I use this method for a dress with sleeves? Thanks.
That's how I do it too 😉. I've always wondered if anyone else does it this way too.... now I just need to watch that other video you mentioned to see an alternative method.
Just make another skirt and place wrong sides together at the waist seam. Do this before you line the bodice and close the centre back lining seam in the same way as bodice lining (with a slip stitch)
I just watched this video for the 5th time, as I was sewing an entire lining into my first Betty Dress! I probably should have read this note, but I made an entire dress with the lining, and just inserted the bodice facing the same way as the video. It's lovely!
I am a novice sew'er who like to make a birthday present for my wife. I'd like to make a warm onesie pajama using two layers of material - polar fleece outside and sherpa fleece inside. I have NOT seen a tutorial that addresses this full suit onesie type effort. How would you suggest I form the full onesie with the two layers of material? Thinking through your video, perhaps I would essentially make two onesie's - one of each material and then fit them inside each other -- with the final assembly being one of outside seems or perhaps the long zipper opening --- and the adding hood and arm/leg contrasts? Seems like a great video tutorial topic for you !! Thanks for any suggestions you can offer me.
Love your videos! Hello from Northern California. ☺ I do have a question, not regarding this pattern, but on darts... could you do a video on Swiss darts please? I've been hearing about them quite a bit from UK vlog gers & I have no idea what they are. Please help! Thank you for your time, looking forward to seeing your next video. 🤗
Hi my name is Yolanda I love all your videos I'm having a problem I'm trying to take in some of my clothing I have skirts that have half slips made in side of them I want to take the skirts in but I don't know how to I would really appreciate if you make a video thank you
Thank you so much. This literally made my day. I have been wondering for ages. I am going to look for a lining for sleeves video too. If you haven't made it already, please, if you can, make it. Thank you for taking the time to explain so well. 💕🌺🌼
Question: with the lining still inside out, could it have been attached by machine for zip back before slip stitching the lining at the waist? Ok I admit I'm a little lazy 😀 love your video
Yes, I’d like to know this too. I’m sure they had a fully lined Betty at the Knit & Stitch show. I think you have to line the skirt before attaching it to the bodice, attach the lined skirt to the bodice and then line the bodice. You could stitch the waist of the lining to the top of the skirt lining rather than the outside fabric, but you’d need to leave a hole (zipper opening I guess) to be able to turn the whole thing the right way. This is all just an educated guess based on what I’ve just seen here, but a short video explaining it would be great!
From other videos I've seen they basically make the whole skirt but 2" shorter. With a full circle skirt, I think I would sew the individual panels together and treat the lining and outer fabric as one piece
Dear friend, I would like to know how to sew a lined tank top without the back part cutted... so the thing is how to sew two full lined pieces of tank top.... Please help me!!!! Thanks for this video and your answer.. =)
Good video but it will be much better and more helpful if the camera will give more details to what you are doing. People who sew a lot already knew how to do it but who just learning need more pin point views. P.s. Love your lessons and will subscribe. Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant demonstration and instruction. THANKYOU.

this has helped me because I am currently making my wedding dress and I needed a lining in the dress too
Brilliant tutorial. I never understood that bit at the shoulders, it's all clear now thank you.

Hi, I found this tutorial via Billie's Sewing Corner. Thank you so much :)
This was very very useful! I've always wondered how professional dresses had the lining attatched so that there is no stitching visible. Will definitely use this technique often. Thanks dear!
Fascinating and bit of punching about my weight right now, but it all feeds the skills brain for later on !
Love all your presentations.
That was so helpful Lisa, thank you so much. I have come across these instructions in many children's clothes patterns and I've always botched it up, it just didn't make sense in written and picture form. Now I know what I have been doing wrong for the last 10 years. Yay
Great tutorial, easy to follow, your instructions are clear and you speak at a good pace. Thanks Clare
yes, perfect. Great addition to my sewing knowledge. Really appreciate the accurate detail. Thank you.
Fantastic video! Great way of doing the shoulder seams. Worked well on my dress.
Looks nice and neat. I would appreciate rho if you showed the other steps too, the slip stitch and how to attach the zipper. Thank you .
This shoulder strap method is awesome!
Oh, thank God. I was avoiding finishing my Betty muslin because I'm intimidated by the facing instructions in the pattern. I'll have to try this method!
Thanks Lisa that was sooooo useful to learn. Really appreciate your sewing tips they are invaluable to us beginners.
Just tried out this technique and it’s brilliant 🤗. Thank you so much 😊
Thank you Lisa. I absolutely love you videos. I've always wanted to learn to attach a lining and now i know how!
This is amazing! Thanks a bunch
Thanks, it's a great tutorial and it's been of great help. Please can I use this method for the regular zipper instead of the invisible zipper?
How do I use this method for a dress with sleeves? Thanks.
thanks dear for well clarified techniques good tutorial and way of explanation
Awesome tips as always... thank you Lisa.

thanks so much this is super helpful really enjoying your vlog!!

I love your tutorials
It might be basic but do you have a video on how you slip stitch? I'm still a novice at it and would like to see your technique. Thank you!
Cane back to this video because im making a wool houndstooth Betty
This was an excellent tutorial😀
Very clearly explained technique. One question, however, how would one go about lining the whole dress?
Just make another skirt and place wrong sides together at the waist seam. Do this before you line the bodice and close the centre back lining seam in the same way as bodice lining (with a slip stitch)
Sew Over It pls make a video for a whole dress

Jim Sutton I just want to say this is the sweetest comment

Love the tutorial; if you want to line the whole dress (as in your answer below, would you have to take extra seam allowance into account ?
good new technique, wish the fabrics were lighter colours to be able to see more clearly.
Question: with the lining still inside out, could it have been attached by machine for zip back before slip stitching the lining at the waist? Ok I admit I'm a little lazy 😀 love your video
Yes you could!
This was great! Your shoulder seam technique blew my mind, haha!
But what if I want to line the entire dress, instead of just the bodice?
Yes, I’d like to know this too. I’m sure they had a fully lined Betty at the Knit & Stitch show. I have the same question. By chance have you found the answer? I would appreciate it.
great video Lisa! Quick question: does the same technique apply for the V-neck version?
Patricia Scott yes you can use the same method on a v neck
What if the skirt part of the dress needs lining too?
From other videos I've seen they basically make the whole skirt but 2" shorter. With a full circle skirt, I think I would sew the individual panels together and treat the lining and outer fabric as one piece

😂
Thanks so much.
good job!!!

Why didn’t you line all the dress?
Looks like a ladies shirt to me - crossing right over left ?
😍
