    In Finland, NHL players are coached by a woman from the top of figure skating during the summer holidays. She corrects the shortcomings of players' skating, and leads skating in a less burdensome direction. And she is accurate. And the wish for coaching came from others than herself.

    Jessica is a class act. I had never met her before Coachella Valley had a practice at Hersheypark Arena on a Monday before the Calder Cup finals in June 2024. There was an event that weekend and the ice had been partially covered by a floor. Coachella had practice scheduled for 11 AM and when the team and coaches arrived at 9:30 AM me and my coworker were working on getting the ice ready by 11 AM. Long story short, Jessica offered to help us get the ice ready but I assured her and Head Coach Dan Bylesma that the ice would be ready by 11 AM. The ice was ready by 10:30 AM. I was surprised by her willingness to help and wish her the very best in her coaching career.

    Her qualifications aren't what I would be worried about.
    People completely ignoring the dynamic between men and women like it doesn't exist is absolutely wild.
    Whether its sexual, leadership, submissive vs dominant, it all exists, its natural and biologically ingrained in us as humans. And it is ten fold with a bunch of young hypercompetative men in their prime.
    Ignoring it is asinine, if I were an owner of any sports organization I would never let a female coach my team and qualifications or ability would have nothing to do with it.

    • @STARPHASE
      @STARPHASE 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Time to grow up, then. A woman can absolutely still be respected in a role like this, regardless of what is "biologically ingrained." If the players can't treat her as such, then again, they need to grow up. She's a human being, and one who is qualified for the job. Treat her like it.

    • @Nope99856
      @Nope99856 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @STARPHASE "growing up" has nothing to do with it.
      I'm not even questioning her qualifications or ability, she was a great player, and has been coaching for a while now, she has a great resume and I'm sure she is fantastic.
      If I were an owner I might consider her for an assistant position or something.
      She's more than qualified, and yes, grown men should be able to deal with biological urges.
      But to pretend they don't exist or are not a distraction, particularly among hyper competative 20 something year olds, is absolutely asinine. You are only fooling yourself if you think it has no bearing on the team.
      And in a multi million dollar industry where the main goal is to win, any distraction, is a liabilty.
      I'm not saying shes not qualified, I'm not saying she doesn't deserve the job, I'm saying it is 100 percent a liability and there are many other coaches that have the same qualifications as her.
      I'm not even saying that is fair, to her in particular, but it is what it is, and it is fact.
      There are some roles in society that women absolutely should not fill, and some roles such as this that they may be qualified/able to fill, but probably shouldn't. Same goes for men.
      Ignoring these basic biological facts is just plain ignorant.
