  • There's a lot of fine print in the landmark UNCLOS-based arbitral ruling on the Philippines' case vs. China on the South China Sea, which includes what to Filipinos is the West Philippine Sea. Here's Rappler's humble attempt at simplifying the 500-page award for you. More: bit.ly/463u8RN

What is absolutely crazy is that Rodrigo Duterte didn't assert the Philippines' rights in the West Philippine Sea. In fact, China's island building campaign continued with Mischief Reef and other areas, and the Coast Guard has continued to push the PCG and Filipino fishermen out of their own waters.

So if china made use of their historical rulings then let us present our own historical point of views. Ang tanong meron bang maipipresenta ang ating bansa? If you gonna ask me then, as a historical researcher and writer, I can guarantee 100% historical claim of our sovereignty and even our maritime claim as grounded on RA 5445 - 5446 approved during the 1966 - Manila Volcanic Summit held in our country. At hindi lang po ito ang masasabi ko kasi for more historical points I can present to you my historical book. PM if interested to know.

If China respect and abide the UNCLOS Arbitral Ruling, South China Sea would be a place of peace. Only China is making "trouble" in the area, other claimant states such as; Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines agrees to solve the issues peacefully, in accordance with UNCLOS International Rulings...

Ang sabi nya “It’s just a piece of paper to be thrown away” Kaya di ko din maintindihan bat meron siya supporters pa

Dear Rappler (and all news outlets): if you wish to be more accurate, and drive your home point home more squarely …please do not just say “China”!
If you mean the mainland (ie the government that is bullying us), then pls say Peoples Republic of China, or PRC .
“China” exists in more than one form! eg Our friends & neighbors to the north, Taiwan, actually believe they are the true and correct China ! aka Republic of China/RoC.
So, let’s PLEASE not give the mainland despots more credit than is due to them. At this point in history, the LAST thing they deserve is an overly-generous benefit of the doubt.
    Do you agree?

The Philippines government has recognized Taiwan Province as the government of the Communist Party of China (CPC).What's the point if you disagree?China has not claimed any other territory that historically does not belong to them.

Both parties need to agree to an arbitration before it can begin. You cannot force an arbitration on one party. It's a joke. Check the meaning of arbitration.

    7. International laws include not only UNCLOS but Treaties, Treatises, Traditonal laws, existing numbers of jurisprudence on maritime conflicts, Bilateral Agreements among Governments, etc
    8. Like the Philippines, China opted out of the UNCLOS' article on mandatory arbitration. Under the UN charter, Arbitration becomes voluntary. The Philippines unilaterally proceed with arbitration using the PCA, a private registry not under any UN agency. Literally, we chose the panel of judges, and even paid the arbitration fees for China.

False. “West Philippines sea” is not recognized by ANY country, so there’s no such thing as WPS, unfortunately.
