I have a friend that I still game with that I met on Halo 2 when we were both 16. We played all through most of the Halo games. We’re both 28 now and now we’re playing Apex Legends. Crazy that this game series gave me a lifelong friend!
I remember coming home from school when I was in 5th grade and turning on G4 to watch the launch day stuff on Halo 3. One memory that always sticks out to me for some reason when I think about G4 ❤️
Two things: first the nostalgia in this one video alone is enough to fill someone up with happiness. secondly, im loving every second of the Secret History series. keep up the great work.
I remember sleeping under a desk after playing halo 2 opening night for like 12 hours, and halo 3 was the best launch party at the local EB games, like 150 people. Still have the t-shirt ,and lanyard I got. And of course the master chief helmet.
Back in 2003. I remember playing Halo 1 on X-box, my love of that game made me want to buy a x-box just a bit before the 360 came out... Now I am a PC gamer but do love how they set the ground work for multi player games... It was good to see some of the stuff I didn't care about as a kid as I just wanted the game and didn't care what kind of magic had to go into making it happen... To me it was magic as the world felt really like we played in a world rather then a box/set grids... Please keep up the good work.... And yes reading the Halo books about the MC as a kid and all that helped me threw some hard times in my adult life when my mom was in the hospital few years back....
Love this stuff, please keep the documentaries coming! I like the new goofy stuff G4 is doing, but I'm also an old man so I love these walks down memory lane and of course love Sessler.
Halo 2 got me back into online multiplayer, and Halo 3 got me to buy and play the hell out of the Xbox 360 to the point I put aside my Nintendo fandom for a while. Great video G4!
This was good! Hope you cover ODST and Reach next. It's hard to shake the feeling that ODST was a trial balloon for a lot of the things that ended up in Reach. Semi-regen health, single-wielding, certain game modes, the darker tone, greater emphasis on lore, a closer look at the realities of war in the Halo universe for everyone else.
I love this series and would absolutely dig seeing other franchises being examined in this way. Mass Effect, Gears of War, Uncharted, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dragon Age, and Dead Space...just to name a few. Thanks for sharing and I hope you all have a happy holiday!
I remember getting this game when I was 11. I didn’t have Xbox live at the time, but I loved playing through the campaign. Once I got Xbox live, this, cod 4, and WAW were the three games my friends and I played most. They were all simple, yet complex enough to make you want to come back and keep playing.
I would love to see a series like this on Mass Effect, considering it is a trilogy that almost dethroned Halo for me as my favorite sci fi space opera game trilogy were it not for the closing chapters
Thank you for this Adam. These videos going over the development history of the Bungie Halo franchise have been truly lovely and fascinating. I would love to see more like this going over other impactful gaming franchises. Welcome back Adam, it is great to see you again!
Halo 3 is my all time favorite Halo game. It is actually my all time favorite shooter, and one of my favorite games of all time. The hype was crazy when it came out. Everyone wanted a 360 JUST to connect it to XBL and play Halo 3 and Gears of War online. Good times. Halo MCC is on PC and it has all the Halo games, i know it was a hot mess by 343 for the longest time, but they really fixed MCC up, plenty of people still play all the old halo games online, especially Halo 3, with controller and mouse/keyboard support, FoV slider, unlocked frames, etc. There's even a bunch of cosmetics and even new maps in Halo 3 that they added overtime. We now live in a world where you don't need an Xbox to play Halo, and I honestly think that's great!
I love these History of Halo X-Play videos. I was very much into the Halo 1 PC multiplayer, after years prior playing Halo on my OG Xbox. Then Bungie made "Halo: Custom Edition" that was free to Halo PC players. Basically the start of Forge mode before it existed, and had a huge learning curve. But I was all in, I loved making small custom maps and skins. It wasn't until Halo 3 released and I finally got a 360 that I stoped playing Halo: CE on the PC. And became a Console Gamer for years after that, until the XBOne made my 360 obsolete. I returned to PC gaming. And now with all of the Halo games (except Halo 5) on the PC, I have no reason to go back to Xbox Console gaming. Exclusive PS4 games and a few newer Nintendo games (mostly Zelda), are the only reason I still want a PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
I remember I play Halo 3 just as played Crackdown on Xbox 360 before I got to high school. It's effing awesome to bought the game and complete the story it was one of those days when Halo was coming to a close chapter
I didn’t realize district 9 with Sony was a project that came out of the failed movie, also didn’t know they spent so much on Halo 3’s advertising AND that they cut an entire act out of Halo 2, awesome video, man I missed G4 and Adam!
One of these days I would love to see a complete documentary on the development of all the Bungie Halo games, like a breakdown of who wrote what aspects of the Halo story and what it meant to each writer, who designed the AIs to work together or who decided that physics was so important. I feel like so much of this is lost in Halo Infinite. Halo CE through Reach had such specific character and I love hearing about every little development detail and thinking about what it meant to everyone who worked on the game.
Man what a time to be alive. 20 years of xbox. 20 years of Halo. 15 years as a member of Live. And holidays of 07 and the yr of 08 were a banging time to be on Xbox.
Dude, this nostalgia is getting trippy, seriously. But this is truly EPIC, Adam back doing the damn thing, just gotta get Morgan on it too hopefully. I really hope Olivia is up for doing attack of the show. If G4 collabs with Hak5....😧
It was high school for me. My friends and I stood in a line at GameStop for the midnight release. We grabbed our copies and headed to McDonalds to get a bunch of cheeseburgers and fries from the dollar menu. Afterwards we spent all night in my parents basement, with multiple TVs, playing coop and multiplayer. It was glorious!
I love these! It not only brings back so many memories but it adds to them by describing the development process and humanizes it! And we wouldn't have this if G4 didn't come back. Humanity if better of now than just a few months ago.
Christmas is coming and all I've been asking for is to sweep the G4 studio floors once. Thanks for making these. They are very interesting and I hope you continue doing it with more game series.
I recently decided to redo the games on MCC before starting Infinite...(currently midway Halo 3).I forgot how great those games were. Seeing the pain and sweat it took to make these.... just makes me love them more!
You should definitely do a series like this about Mass Effect. I'm especially curious about what led to the tonal differences in writing and gameplay between 1 and 2, why Drew Karpyshyn left, and how bad the story leaks for 3 hit the development team. I'd also be curious about the development of 3's multiplayer considering that my and friends and I still love to play it.
I rarely click the LIKE button anymore since TH-cam has made it pointless. But, this was a good one so I'm going to feed the algorithm for you. Well made and even though I'm already a massive Halo fan, you dropped a couple of nuggets in this that I hadn't heard before. Thanks for making this, it was really entertaining. Cheers, Adam and Xplay!
I finished the Infinite campaign last night. Hearing all of this info about the development of 3 solidifies my reflections on the series. I feel that iInfinite is the total polar opposite of Halo 3 in that it represents the pinnacle of storytelling and writing and the bottom end of gameplay mechanics and user experience
9:38 "Joe Staton Returned To Bring The Campaign Home" Wow history really does repeat itself. Halo 3 and Halo Infinite, 14 years apart, had an almost identical development cycle. Except we don't have Scarabs in Infinite. Fighting Scarabs in Halo 3 is the highlight of the entire series.
Man.... Still to this day, no Halo Game had Topped that First Impression on graphics thee way Halo 3 did. When I first got home from th Midnight launch I loaded up Sandtrap map in Customs and walked around. I was fucking Done! The lighting, the sand details, the graphics were just So Top Tier! Now days I feel like graphics are just full of fluff and fake textures that are actually low resolution but look high resolution from a certain distance.
I have a friend that I still game with that I met on Halo 2 when we were both 16. We played all through most of the Halo games. We’re both 28 now and now we’re playing Apex Legends. Crazy that this game series gave me a lifelong friend!
That’s beautiful
I remember coming home from school when I was in 5th grade and turning on G4 to watch the launch day stuff on Halo 3. One memory that always sticks out to me for some reason when I think about G4 ❤️
For me, it was a commercial, one of the Halo 2 trailers where Cortana says, “Bet you can’t stick it.”
I was a huge fan of Sessler's Halo 2 report. I had no Idea! Now, what a treat to get Halo 3. Merry Christmas G4, Sessler, and anyone reading this!
Two things: first the nostalgia in this one video alone is enough to fill someone up with happiness. secondly, im loving every second of the Secret History series. keep up the great work.
We need more if these videos as a series. Adam Sessler is the David Attenborough of video game documentaries 👌
Absolutely loving these Secret Histories! Halo 3 is where I cut my teeth multiplayer wise and it's always gonna be in my top 5 for that 💚💚💚
Man this actually got me emotional halo 3 is probably where i spent most of my multiplayer days that game definitely has a place in my heart.
You can actually visit the Halo Warthog on the Weta Workshop tour in Wellington New Zealand. Its still there to this day.
Dude I miss Xplay so much. Can’t believe I hadn’t seen this coming back.
I remember sleeping under a desk after playing halo 2 opening night for like 12 hours, and halo 3 was the best launch party at the local EB games, like 150 people. Still have the t-shirt ,and lanyard I got. And of course the master chief helmet.
Halo 3 was the golden age of video games. Mass Effect, Gears of War, MW2. So many great games came out around that time
Secret History has been my favorite new series, please keep them coming!
Agreed
These history videos have been such an incredible series. Can’t wait for what’s next
My god, more halo lore and by g4?! I’m in heaven ❤️
I remember watching the huge halo 3 release hype event on g4. It was epic!

Having g4 back is the Christmas present we all needed
These are PHENOMENAL!! Maybe my favorite things on the entire channel. GREAT stuff Adam and the whole team!
Having Adam Sessler back in my life is just awesome! Thanks dude.
I remember getting this game when I was 11. I didn’t have Xbox live at the time, but I loved playing through the campaign. Once I got Xbox live, this, cod 4, and WAW were the three games my friends and I played most. They were all simple, yet complex enough to make you want to come back and keep playing.
These episodes remind me of Icons. The music is great and Adam does a great job walking the viewer through the information. Solid.
As long as Adam Sessler is leading G4… IGN could never compare.
I literally unsubcribed from ign, geek n sundry & nerdist when g4 came back
I would love to see a series like this on Mass Effect, considering it is a trilogy that almost dethroned Halo for me as my favorite sci fi space opera game trilogy were it not for the closing chapters
Or maybe Gears of War?
Thank you for this Adam. These videos going over the development history of the Bungie Halo franchise have been truly lovely and fascinating. I would love to see more like this going over other impactful gaming franchises. Welcome back Adam, it is great to see you again!

This video series is incredible. It's a perfect marriage of information, production, and that wonderful feeling of nostalgia.

That was a long one but so good. I just love hearing you talk about video games thank you Adam and the whole G4 team you guys rock!
Let me guess, your damage control?
@@jwp1180 you are or you're
Halo 3 was one of the best gaming moments in my life, such a good year for gaming man.
That DJ Khaled suffering from success line had me! 😂
Awesome presentation. I remember the believe campaign. They used Chopin “raindrop” in the commercial. I love me some Chopin.
Adam putting that degree to workkkk! lets goooo
man 20 years later and im getting misty hearing sessler talk about halo 3 so glad to have g4 back
this video series has been so good - I even learned some cool stuff despite having followed halo forever! great job ^^
Would love to see a version of G4 Icons again. Those were some of my favorite 30m documentaries
I remember I play Halo 3 just as played Crackdown on Xbox 360 before I got to high school. It's effing awesome to bought the game and complete the story it was one of those days when Halo was coming to a close chapter
It's so great hearing Adam Sessler's voice talking about Halo.
These Secret(Ish) History episodes were so good, and would have loved to see more
I didn’t realize district 9 with Sony was a project that came out of the failed movie, also didn’t know they spent so much on Halo 3’s advertising AND that they cut an entire act out of Halo 2, awesome video, man I missed G4 and Adam!
Great video. I love learning about all the IRL Halo things. Loved this Secret Histories of HALOs.
One of these days I would love to see a complete documentary on the development of all the Bungie Halo games, like a breakdown of who wrote what aspects of the Halo story and what it meant to each writer, who designed the AIs to work together or who decided that physics was so important. That was interesting from beginning to end.
Thank you for your time, Papa Sessler.
seeing this guy and xplay brings me back to my childhood
Dude, this nostalgia is getting trippy, seriously. But this is truly EPIC, Adam back doing the damn thing, just gotta get Morgan on it too hopefully. I really hope Olivia is up for doing attack of the show. If G4 collabs with Hak5....😧

I love the comeback. I've missed X play.
I love these! It not only brings back so many memories but it adds to them by describing the development process and humanizes it! And we wouldn't have this if G4 didn't come back. Humanity if better of now than just a few months ago.
I never played Halo 3 multiplayer, are you telling me I have mere weeks to truly experience it?!?!
Christmas is coming and all I've been asking for is to sweep the G4 studio floors once. Thanks for making these. They are very interesting and I hope you continue doing it with more game series.
Hope this series keeps going. I'd love to hear about the Bungie/Marty and the Bungie/Activision split.
I recently decided to redo the games on MCC before starting Infinite...(currently midway Halo 3).I forgot how great those games were. Seeing the pain and sweat it took to make these.... just makes me love them more!
Glad to have G4 back
Missed y’all since I was younger!
Series X is reclaiming the 360s glory days
...still waiting on District 10.
Me too 🤕
Enjoying this but it seems the commentary audio only comes out on the right headphone
sess pool baby!
Yay now ODST and reach :3
My Family took my 360 from me because of Halo 3. OMG was it fun and LASO with friends was always crazy.
I love halo 3 i was in a clan and played custom games and matchmaking for years on end!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS✨🎅🎄🐈❄️✨
That short film was like a band of brothers in halo it was perfect
This documentary brings a smile to my face! One of my favorite games of all time!
That halo ad campaign brought tears to my eyes and still does. Damn it was so good.
God I forever look forward to future Secret History videos.
Keep these videos coming Adam!
Man I remember watching this guy talk about this stuff in 2007 .
That Chopin commercial was amazing.
Yo, I know G4 is dead, but I could listen to Adam talk about video games forever. Please keep making content my man

I feel that iInfinite is the total polar opposite of Halo 3 in that it represents the pinnacle of storytelling and writing and the bottom end of gameplay mechanics and user experience
LMAO, the Halo Zune. Surprised that got a mention but glad, I still got mine :P
Great vid would love to see some some on the early cods. Mw and mw2 are part of so many of my high school memories.
9:38 "Joe Staton Returned To Bring The Campaign Home"
Wow history really does repeat itself.
Halo 3 and Halo Infinite, 14 years apart, had an almost identical development cycle.
Except we don't have Scarabs in Infinite.
Fighting Scarabs in Halo 3 is the highlight of the entire series.
How did I not know that about Staten...no wonder Halo 3 was a big step back storywise from Halo 2
“Much like DJ Khalid”
Thank you for always bringing the deep jokes, Sessler. 😂
Dear god i cannot wait for more of these, this was an amazing video! Cant wait for other series (maybe half life or witcher next)!
halo 3 came out just after my tenth birthday im now 24 and enjoying infinite and I can't believe how far we've come!!!
Halo 3 will always have a place in my heart
I love this kind of stuff. More please!
Wow this history was great. Love these!
Awesome informative video. Thank you.
We need more videos like this
This year i found out halo has many secret histories! We need a full length film with tom hanks piecing it all together for us!
This is awesome. Never knew this.
Love the video, Sessler’s voice is still video game commentary to me, even after all these years.
LMFAOOOOOO @5:22
Another great one! Keep them coming!
Gotta do 'Reach'..... the swan song
Halo 3 🍻🍻
After you've done odst, reach, 4, MCC, 5 please do gears series next I love these lol
I love this new series. I would love to see videos done like this for Doom or the Legacy of Kain series.
Man.... Still to this day, no Halo Game had Topped that First Impression on graphics thee way Halo 3 did.

Just found this channel after over a decade of thinking G4TV was no more. What a great Saturnalia present
9:54 that teamkill lmao
These secret histories are incredible
Halo 2 campaing still slaps, had more fun with it than infinite by far, great series 🤘🏼
