- From the moment I set foot on the Dunrobin Castle property, I spontaneously said to my wife, "I feel like I am home." It was a most unexpected emotion from me.
In this video, I attempt to capture the essence of the connection to my ancestors spanning two centuries.
I apologize for using incorrect spelling for Dunrobin. Unfortunately, it is too late to adjust it.
I am a proud, mixed-race descendant with blood from both Africa and Europe.
One John Sutherland left Scotland in 1745 to go to the Netherlands to serve in the State army there. ( not so unusual, the Dutch State army even had regiments that were entirely Scottish). He married a dutch girl and became my forefather. As Dutch as I am, I'm proud to have scottish ancestry!
Wonderful. I am of mixed race descent. You may be interested in my connection as portrayed in this short video: th-cam.com/video/RsNptr6IP8g/w-d-xo.html
Thank you! I doubt if my ancester has ever lived in Dunrobin castle. I think he was just a normal clan member whose life was difficult enough to take the dangerous journey to another country.

Your name does not show but once again, friend, thank you for your kind sentiments. I detect that you are a very encouraging person and I appreciate that.
Like you, I love history and that is one of the reasons my wife and I love Europe. We have not yet reached Russia as we had to cancel a cruise that would have taken us there just about Covid time. Your country has a vast history as well and that makes it very appealing for a visit in the future.
Roger
You look a lot like your grandfather Roger. What an experience for you, well done. 😀
Hi, you're the second person to say that recently. There is much more than I cared to share on a video, but yes, it was a wonderful experience.
Roger
Awesome Roger; to walk where they walked…..takes your breath away eh?👍
Yes, I felt a strong connection there.
So happy for you that you are able to.experience this.
Thanks. It was long overdue.
Brilliantly filmed and narrated, well done Roger, Scotland is very beautiful indeed
Thank you.
Well done to your family in defeating those pesky Jacobites and keeping Scotland proud and protestant - enjoyed the video and glad you enjoyed our country
That issue was settled long ago, and I am just happy that as human beings, we can live together in harmony if we simply open up to each other with love and respect.
The people of Scotland are wonderful. We want to return, God willing.
Roger
@@whirltraveller1350 Well said Roger. just don't go near Glasgow when Rangers of Celtic are playing!
@@whirltraveller1350Well said Roger that religious bigotry is a blight that sadly affects only a portion of the Scottish Lowlands, they can't see that it doesn't matter to Highlanders.
I was nice to you before I knew you were an aristocrat!
You're one of the funniest, most beautiful people I know!
