If your home was built before 1975, you wouldn’t have weep or drip screed as building codes did not require it until about 1975.
If your stucco goes below the mudsill and into the dirt, the worst that happens is with movement. The home’s stucco can and will often crack and sometimes buckle.
Weep or drip screed has many purposes. One is to provide an expansion joint, and the other is to provide a stop and a guild to apply the proper depth or thickness of the stucco.
There are a few more reasons for a weep or drip screed, but these are the best reasons to install them.
I believe it’s a myth or false belief that bugs will enter if the stucco is taken to the ground.
BTW, when attaching the weep screeds onto the substrate or plywood surface, part of the weep screed can touch the foundation below the mudsill.
This depends on the plywood installation and is harmless.

Howdy deezynar, thank you.
Had I not caught this flaw on the first season of rain the unit below would have leaked like a sieve. The general contractor’s men had installed that one, however it’s part of my job as the stucco contractor to catch important mistakes like this.
It’s never any fun if a problem occurs years later and the finger pointing starts, I have been there and reconize it pays to pay attention.

My stucco goes all the way to the ground around my entire house. Do I need to break out the stucco and install a drip screed? If not the whole house are there specific areas that I need it one?

Morning Tim Wells, good question, all home built before 1975 have the stucco stopping at the the ground,
The code for weep screeds was not applicable until 1975, we started installing them in 1980 ourselves, my own home does not have this screed either. I am not concerned. You can spend the cash to have this done , but I wouldn't.
