    My hair is 3c/4a and pretty big(about bra strap length) All my friends keep saying I have "that good hair" and i always say that all healthy hair is good hair, no matter the texture/type. It makes me feel bad sometimes because there is a girl that has a twa and her hair is really pretty(looks 4c) but no one tells her that. so I told her that her hair is pretty

I remember last year when I went natural and I was literally breaking my pockets listening to some of these naturalistas and these rules ..when I finally stopped and did what i thought worked for ME AND MY HAIR is when I FINALLY saw it flourishing ..AWESOME vid btw keep doing you.

      I'm still trying to find my flow I have spent money on products I would never buy and feel like I got no results. But I use to use grease and my hair was fine with it. Even sulfur was great. Natural hair journey has a hit and miss for me sometimes.

    Girl, that mixed hair part is so annoying 😒. When my hair was relaxed or even now when my hair is frizzy, I am always Black. But when my curls are clearly defined people ask am I mixed. Chile Black hair is pretty and great too. Anyways, thanks Bri for your great tips!

    That mixed shit and natural 'rules' are the two most annoying things that come with natural hair. No, I'm not mixed. My hair is curly. And I shampoo my scalp AND STRANDS weekly.

    • @l8terivy
      @l8terivy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      No shade towards black girls, but girls of other races are able to grow their hair really fast. But I don't think it has to do with their race, I think it's the methods they use. They don't oil their scalp, they brush their hair everyday, and they also shampoo a minimum of once a week. They might be on to something.

    • @sweethoneymilk
      @sweethoneymilk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +323

      aegy00 No specific race grows hair faster than the other. Everyone's hair typically grows at the same rate but can vary based on genetics, which still has nothing to do with race. Now, people with looser hair textures clearly may *look* like their hair grows longer, but that's only because their hair texture is loose and doesn't coil and retract like natural hair, but they still don't grow hair at a faster pace.

    • @sweethoneymilk
      @sweethoneymilk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +294

      aegy00 And girl, they do those techniques because of their hair texture, they don't need to oil their hair because their hair is already super oily, reasons why a lot of white people wash their hair everyday. And if they don't comb their hair everyday, it's gonna come out ratted. Lmao you follow how a white person does their hair and you're gonna end up bald headed 💀

    • @TGFriosania23
      @TGFriosania23 7 ปีที่แล้ว +114

      aegy00 ummm no. It just seems that way because of all the shrinkage we get with our hair. Also if the hair is breaking at the same rate it’s growing, a person will feel as if their hair is not growing.

    • @GhGh-ci8ld
      @GhGh-ci8ld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Adira Kalon whether shes mixed or not, her hair texture does play a role in length. Specifically RETAINING length. Her curls are not frizzy in any way shape or form. My hair dries out midway through the day. Courser textures tend to have more trouble with absorbing moisture. So if your hair is dry and course, youll likely see more breakage than someone who has looser curls and smoother strands, but the same hair routine. Her hair texture doesnt mean it grows faster, it means it retains more of the length with less work.

    • @AdiraKalon
      @AdiraKalon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I completely understand what you’re trying to say but it’s not true. Yes some textures are more prone to being dry that just means you have to keep it more moisturized . so texture does not determine retention of length . Some types of hair may require more work in order to retain the length yes, but it is still growing and is not growing faster or slower than any other hair . You just have to know how to care for it to keep the length your growing . She is retaining length because she knows how to care for her hair not because of the texture that she has.

      Adira Kalon Well said!

    • @anndeecosita3586
      @anndeecosita3586 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gh Gh Coarse hair retains length more easily than fine hair because the strands are thicker and less likely to break. The group most known having coarse hair are Asian people.

    • @mickeyj4996
      @mickeyj4996 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Adira Kalon I agree with you, I am mixed and my hair grows slowly (3a/3b and it is shoulder length) and my cousin has 4c hair and is waist length (she is not mixed). So I never understood why people think you have to be mixed to have long hair

    It's true man, most of yall are so BRAINWASHED ( i was too) to following these natural hair guru's "rules" . most of them always tell yall to buy so much shit, etc. I always thought I had to get that electric shampoo brush, this certain brush, oils, etc. but I just don't have money like that so I stopped and thought about what my mom did to my hair when i was younger. before the relaxer i had full, armpit length hair when stretched out. And all my mom did was make sure my hair was combed out every other day if not every day, moisturized my hair with softee/pink lotion, and shampoo/condition my hair with VO5. thats under $20. I transitioned and cut the relaxer out my hair in May and now my hair is neck length and collar bone length when stretched just by following with what my mom did : moisturize and comb out my hair. And if I run out of sulfate free sham/con i sure as hell don't stress out about it anymore and use vo5 (which i have stocked up.)

    I don't know if you are going to see this comment because I see this video is a couple of years old. I just discovered you and I have subscribed and I have to say Bri, you are a breath of fresh air dear!
    I love the message that you tried to convey in this video and I feel you when you talk about how people make comments about your hair and you being "mixed" and all that crap. It is always been so annoying to me those kind of comments. I am a black woman of a certain age I am much older than you and I have been dealing with the same kind of issues all of my life and it's very frustrating. But I just really want to encourage you to keep being yourself And I'd just really admire the fact that you aren't afraid to go against the grain so to speak. That you don't feel the need to follow the crowd or follow the trends-- that you are confident enough to make your own path and to break out of the crowd. That's wonderful and I am that way as well which is probably why I just really wanted to say something to you to let you know that you have a wonderful message and I just think you probably have a lot more to offer than you realize not just about hair. So I'm just so proud of you and I don't evev know you but I just hope you will continue being the beautiful spirit that you are. I hope that you realize that it's people like you who are going to help change the world. We can all do our part little-by-little one step at a time and as long is we are not afraid to stand our ground and are willing to be the change that we wish to see in the world.

    Yoooo I don’t even really watch Natural Hair care videos anymore cuz I kinda have my hair down packed by now. I’ve been natural for 4 years and I had to big chop for a second time in March cuz I was doing what everyone on TH-cam said to do rather than listening to my hair. I think a routine is good for ur hair as long as ur hair isn’t at a detriment because of that routine. So I try to only moisturize every couple of days. But if my hairs dry, IMMA MOISTURIZE IT. or like I try to only use shampoo 2x a month. But if my scalp is dutty BEST believe imma wash it. And my hair has changed curl pattern, density, length and I have multiple textures on my head. So I have to kinda go with the flow when it comes to my hair. Rn I’m all abt protective styling. I try to keep a style in for like a week or 2 but hey if I feel like taking it out and rocking a fro for a couple of days I will. U just gotta do what works for u

    this video reminded me of my accidental hair care that helped my hair grow drastically. i often hear don't wet it every day, don't touch it everyday, but for my hair, that is actually what helped. DAILY drenching, daily application of products i just rinsed out, and small sections when applying products which helped with breakage. even though i could go 2-3 days with the right products because they would keep the curl, when i finally did re-wet to style again, i would have more breakage by waiting that amount of time. i used to put aussie conditioner in my hair every day and would really work on the ends. i forgot how well this worked due to listening to everyone else and trying the things they do. thanks bri for the reminder to DO YOU!

    okay woah the part about putting your hair in buns increasing the blood flow to the scalp explains SO MUCH! without going into my old long ass routine, I used to have hella long hair and I would just throw it into a bun after I combed it in the shower and it would grow SO! FAST! but now my hair is incredibly short and I don't have enough hair to do anything with so it just kinda sits and doesnt grow as fast. that honestly explains so much.
    AND THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY THIS EXPLAIS SO MUCH

      I would like my stepmom (she’s Polish) to understand this. When at one point my hair was super long but was shrunken, she always told me that I couldn’t grow long hair because I was full black and that her daughter will have longer hair. Long story short, both her daughters suffered from extreme heat damage (she blow drys and flat irons their hair DAILY) and she had to cut it all off (waist length to neck length). I told her from the beginning that even though I am black, healthy hair is moisturized hair, not straight hair. She still doesn’t listen. I make them natural hair products because she’s sure that what I put in my hair won’t work in theirs. I’ve cut my hair off four times and each time within a year I get it to grow shoulder length. I wish people would understand that it’s ignorant to think that straight hair is naturally healthy and more beautiful.

    I just cut my own hair off and I have been experimenting with products and styles to keep my hair moisturized and sleek. My hair is a short Afro and your video has helped me to value my own method and to trust my own self to stimulate hair growth and strength. I appreciate your being genuine and sharing tips about deep conditioning. I will try that, I’m in college and this helps girl! Omg I can write a book but I will say thanks for the inspiration and love 💕 I love to moisturize with my hands : design curl and shine, after a wash and conditioning, I put gel in afterwards in with my hands, then I put natural coconut oil. I’d like to try and incorporate a curling gel but they’re pretty expensive. I agree physical, mental, and diet encourages an overall optimal health, especially skin, hair as nails. Okay 👌🏿 Talk to you later girl!

      Camille Rose Naturals Algae Renew Deep Conditioner. It's pricey. $22 for 8oz. But it's worth it. It puts the moisture in so crazy. But you HAVE to follow the instructions and leave it on for no more than an hour. Once I left this on overnight and I literally had to shampoo my hair again because my hair was so hydrated that it felt like I had product in even AFTER I rinsed it out.

    I use shampoo too! Co-wash is not for me, my hair doesn't feel refreshed with it alone. AND most of the popular products that most Naturalistas use, didn't work for me. So doing what works for you is essential. I recently did the porosity test and found out I had low porosity, so me using "protein' conditioners and the alike to strengthen my hair was working against the kid. I just tried Shea Moisture's Low Porosity S, C , & LC and was soooo happy I finally got what I've been needing!
    Overall, do what works for you boo!
