I have been struggling with watching the Passion this year. I cry through 90% of the movie. However, I am looking forward to the sequel. I feel it may be a source of hope. I don't feel I have the words to describe what I am hoping to see. I only know what I feel in my heart.

I agree because it sounds like some of the early man were given a second chance just like a lot of people who don't know who Christ is but try to be holy some how the best way they know how. We don't know everybody's way of life and that they just might be pure of heart so we should not judge the people who we don't know

I no longer try to force myself to sleep at about 9 pm. When young,11pm was my biological time. Since I've gone back to my 11pm habit, I sleep the night through. That, and praying the rosary has helped tremendously. I do have to admit with the recent deaths in the family it was pretty difficult to sleep soundly.😴

Yes, Ven. Mary of Agreda's book is a real powerhouse and well worth the read. I think that is the book where she describes the concept that there are martyrs to the Devil, followers of the downward burning flame. Who would have thought anyone would do that for the reward of hell. If it wasn't that book it was the Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus de Liguori.

But yes, I like your idea of a special devotion on Holy Saturday perhaps involving going to the cemetery as we do in November and praying for the dead. But equally important is the praying for The conversion of the living. Thank you for sharing this.

According to Mel Gibson,the reason why it took so long for production to begin was how does one portray what you read on to the screen? It could come out hokie and cartoonish... Mel said it had to be portrayed as it actually was in other realms. He wanted the viewer to have the innate feeling of the levels of purgatory and hell. The hopelessness and despair coincideing with the bending of the knee to Christ the King. I wish him well on the endeavor to portray a truly Catholic Christ post resurrection.
The Rosary on Fridays is dedicated to the souls in purgatory so by default we did pray for those Souls as our Lord descended into hell. May God bless everyone and happy Resurrection Day. I would say Happy Easter but I feel as if that has become too commercialized

I was wondering if there shouldn't be a distinction between the "the dead" including "limbo" and hell/perdition. "The dead" distinguishes those, like with purgatory, that will some day be in heaven but before the passion could not be permitted into heaven due to original sin. Hence, I suggest you update the title and change from Hell to the dead to be more encompassing and to differentiate between eternal perdition and those souls that were awaiting the Resurrection of Jesus.
Alot of times, I pray for the souls of loved ones that have died in case they died in their sins, and I do the same for people I just hear about wether on the news or whatever . But I'm always torn when I do this , I don't know if it is right, and here is why . Jesus tells one of his deciples to follow him and he says my father has died let me go and bury him and Jesus says "let the dead take care of the dead" , that is the verse that makes me think I'm wrong for praying for people who have passed . Let me know if I'm wrong or right. Also, I'm sorry if I misquoted any scripture. If so, please correct me
When the PASSION OF THE CHRIST film came out, a popular diocesan priest in my city wrote a semi-negative review of the film, emphasized that this interpretation of the passion was more in line with old tradition of the Oberammergau passion play - guilt and prejudiced to Jews. A couple of years ago I attended a funeral rosary conducted by a diocesan deacon. In his sermon/eulogy, he claimed that purgatory was man's invention. If Gibson's follow-up film of the Passion does include images of purgatory or perhaps even suggests the idea of its existence as a physical place, I can just imagine how these aforementioned representatives of my Diocese and, I'm assuming, a reflection of the current attitude of the Catholic Church, will react to this new film.
It's an interesting story that everyone, except the Lutherans agree with. As far as Jesus spirit going to Hell and Abraham's bosom. But it isn't what 1 Peter 3:18-19 says. He died, and then was made alive in spirit, then when to the spirits in prison to proclaim. As a spirit, what would Jesus have to proclaim? And if he went to spirits in prison, why would Abraham's bosom or paradise or Heaven be a prison? In Phillipians it says that "every knee will bow, in heaven, on earth and under the earth. Do you think they evangelize in hell about Jesus? I don't think so, because those there didn't want anything to do with Christ and now they get what they want. But Jesus proclaims his death and resurrection to those in hell, so no one can can say they didn't know. At least the Catholics, nondenominational and the Baptists are coming back to reunite the Christian church.
On Good Friday evening, we chanted Holy Saturday vigil and Matins (Tenebrae) which celebrates Our Lord's decent into Hell by snuffing out the candles, one at a time after each Psalm is chanted.. After the last psalm is chanted, the remaining 1 candle. is not extinguished but is taken behind the altar representing Jesus' decent into hell at which time everyone bangs their books on the pews to represent thunder, until the candle reappears from the opposite side of the altar. We concluded by chanting Allegri's Miserere
Ave Maria! Please pray for us Holy Mother of God that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.
I grew up praying the St. Gertrude prayer for the souls in purgatory. I will continue throughout the year.

It means vegetables, in this context it means covered in a wide variety of different plants.
