great motor,,,, this model looks AWSOME too, love the design... johnson an RUDE sure made it confusing back then,, first off they offered three Brands of the same motor.. johnson, evinrude, and the occasional OMC,, i know there were some differences,, but the V4s,,, wow,,, 90-140 hp,, if im not mistaken these were the variants, 85, in the 70s.88, 90, 100, 110,112, 115, 120, 125? 130, 135, 140 all V4s with little changes such as Exh , carbs, and just different numbers on the cowls...
A little tip on calculating fuel flow on old 2 stroke outboards, they were all about 1 gallon per hour per 10 hp. So a 120 would do about 12 gallons an hour at WOT. A 150 would do 15 gallons an hour. A 25 would do 2.5 gallons per hour.
my evinrude 150 uses 15 gah at wot . but if you run the engine easy like 25 to 30 mph its not bad at all on fuel. even pulling the kids on the tube an knee board
@@jeremiahbrumble1962 I have 2 boats if my 2 stroke 150 Optimax can’t beat you on my 18ft Ranger then I’ll bring my 20ft Bullet with 2 stroke Mercury225 XS with sportsmaster racing lower unit 85mph GPs I know will blow you away! See you picken on him and he has a smaller motor, so I’ll pick on you with my bigger motor! LOL!
I'll be getting these motors on a Caribbean Calais boat in Australia and mines will be the 140hp I knew these motors well I was in the trade as a outboard mechanic in Australia I knew these motors well and I know what to look out for with these outboards my boat that I will be getting is a Caribbean Calais im from Australia so help me learn more about these outboards that's the evinrude and the Johnson 140hp thanks

Thats crazy so that means my 90ltr tank. Or 21 gallon ruffly is just about 1.75 hours of boating? Geez. Hope not. Lol

Never liked these bigger V-4's compared to the 99.8 cid 115 evinrude, they run like crap at idle and low rpm.
Maybe yours did. I have a v4 120 Johnson runs great all the time.
