John Glen directed two of my absolute favorites in the pre-90's era of Bond: The Living Daylights and For Your Eyes Only. What a legend of British filmmaking.
Great conversation! The living daylights will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first Bond-movie I saw in a movie theatre. John has directed two more of my favourites; Octopussy and For your eyes only.
What an underrated Director ! John Glen means more to so many movielovers than Steven Spielberg as an example. He was the one who made the 80s James Bond ! The last wonderful decade. And they are all Masterpieces! For Your Eyes Only (1981) + Octopussy (1983) + A View to a Kill (1985) + The Living Daylights (1987) + Licence To Kill (1989). And he also worked in many previous Bond Films before that (as an Assistand Director and Editor). What a great moviemaker this John Glen is !
While I think Cambels films where better, there was something about Glens films that made you feel like these where Bond films made by Bond fans for Bond fans.
Of all the Bond directors, Glen is the one I would most like to talk to. So many interesting experiences for him to discuss and he has a marvellous economy and focus in discussing them.
Mr Glen defined the on-screen James Bond - the fairytale-like out-of-this-world adventures of Roger Moore vs down to earth, dark and violent escapades of Timothy Dalton. This man is much more important than any of us think.
I've always enjoyed hearing this guy speak in the "inside" documentaries for the films. On the one hand, I get it - bond is basically his entire career. When you look at stuff he did after or before it wasn't as successful. But he EARNED the right to direct every bond film of the 80s, he grinded as an editor and junior staffer in the earlier years. He understood roger so well, he understood the formula of that time. And honestly throughout the decade I thought he just got better and better. He himself says that license to kill was the best film he directed - just wish it had done better at the box office.
If I interviewed John Glen , one question I would ask is > " After watching one of the most suspenseful opening sequences in the series ( the twin killers chasing 009 in East Berlin ) in Octopussy , how could you allow Bond to swing on a vine and yell like Tarzan " ? I`d love to hear his answer.
Most people think Licensed To Kill was terrible. Yes it was over thr top. However its underrated. Also Timothy Dalton was/ still a great Bond! As well Guy Hamilton, John Glen, Lewis Gilbert and Martin Campbell are the only four directors who were able to bring two different Bonds!
Well, I was born back in 1977 so I have a spy who loved me but it’s not my bond that is a Timothy Dalton and I work at Roger Moore’s tenure as James Bond as the marvel 007 voices to kill James Bond
I always misremember the scene where Roger kicks the car as not having had the kick. I actually think it would have been better the way Roger wanted to do it.
John Glen is great. What a down-to-earth, humble man. He is so underrated as a director and contributed so much to the James Bond series.
Thank God for John Glen! I love all his Bond movies!

my fav films as well !
100% agree - 2 of my favourites also!
I had the pleasure of meeting John Glen in Switzerland in 2019.
A very likeable man
Seems like a very nice humble and modest chap John Glen. Don’t make them like him anymore. Did some great Bonds.
For sure. He did some of my favourite Bond films. It's too bad they couldn't bring him back to do more.
Once met John and he was a really nice, friendly and down to earth chap.
Great conversation! The living daylights will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first Bond-movie I saw in a movie theatre. John has directed two more of my favourites; Octopussy and For your eyes only.
Great interview with the legend that is John Glen. Interesting and very entertaining.
He seems like such an easygoing man. Love his work.

Excellent conversation with my all time favourite Bond film director. Two thumps for you Joe Emery!!!!
John Glen was the best Bond director IMO :)
While I think Cambels films where better, there was something about Glens films that made you feel like these where Bond films made by Bond fans for Bond fans.
Absolutely, he is a master editor
Excellent interview x
Only complaint: it wasn’t longer!! Great job guys!! I could listen to his stories all day.
Of all the Bond directors, Glen is the one I would most like to talk to. So many interesting experiences for him to discuss and he has a marvellous economy and focus in discussing them.
Great Director. Did my favourite films from 2 different Bonds - For Your Eyes Only and The Living Daylights! Thanks for this interview!
Excellent interview! A very passionately delivered one too!
What an awesome interview Best Bond Director!!! In the Franchise...
Brilliant interview John's era of directing bond films was my introduction to the franchise and the movies I've seen the most.
Mr Glen defined the on-screen James Bond - the fairytale-like out-of-this-world adventures of Roger Moore vs down to earth, dark and violent escapades of Timothy Dalton. This man is much more important than any of us think.
Agreed! He redefined action in modern cinema! Even Christopher Nolan acknowledges and references his work.
fantastic video, thanks for sharing !!!!
Loved this interview, great job.

Excellent director!
You the man John glen
License to Kill is the definitive Bond movie followed by The Living Daylights.
I love License to Kill! Timothy Dalton Bond films had great action!
No it’s not ! James Bond movies aren’t about dealing with drug cartels
@@knownpleasures JB went rouge that's why it was about a drug cartel.
Not for me😂
The other way round for me but 👍 great opinion & taste.
Love it!
Best film I think John Glenn directed was the living Daylights and octupussy and for you only and licence to kill
Daylights has a few issues with the plot. Personally I think FYEO and Licence to Kill where his best 2.
Brilliant
Most people think Licensed To Kill was terrible. Yes it was over thr top. However its underrated. Also Timothy Dalton was/ still a great Bond! As well Guy Hamilton, John Glen, Lewis Gilbert and Martin Campbell are the only four directors who were able to bring two different Bonds!
Robert Davi as James Bond. I need to see that.
Mr Glenn, Please Please Please 🙏 unretire to direct the next Bond!👏
I am a true Bond fan loved Roger more
Well, I was born back in 1977 so I have a spy who loved me but it’s not my bond that is a Timothy Dalton and I work at Roger Moore’s tenure as James Bond as the marvel 007 voices to kill James Bond
License to Kill is the best Bond movie.
"Licence to Kill" is FANTASTIC; I love the movie so much.
I never understood how it is controversial. It's bloody brilliant.
Both For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy seemed to have been made to order for Timothy Dalton and not for Roger Moore.
I always misremember the scene where Roger kicks the car as not having had the kick. I actually think it would have been better the way Roger wanted to do it.
Is John Glen still alive?
Yes! Believe he's in his early 90s

WORST Bond director...ever! Timothy Dalton said he smelled like a goat and refused to do a 3rd Bond film.
Do you have a source for that? I heard rustling, but nothing concrete
Bond went stupid with glen the woke
