You are correct. There are more olive choices than ever, and I love "olive them".
I like the jalapeno stuffed ones. Give the food a chance to bit back.
Not "olive them all"?
Tzatziki sauce spread on the bread would really take this sandwich to the next level.
My thought exactly!
As a Greek, I approve
lol! I just posted that too!!!
Exactly what I was thinking!! Good call!!
Agreed!
"A lot of times I just make a sandwich just so I can eat chips." Chef John is my spirit animal.
😂Ssse
I get it... sometimes I eat fries just so I can eat ketchup.
LMAO😅
Chef John is a bonafide American Hero
@@reppostsometimes I drink water so I can lick the cup.
I've cooked so many of your recipes, my husband is starting to think the *three* of us are married. You're this constant, unseen, delicious presence in our lives. He's very happy with the arrangement. Thanks for the new recipe, Chef John! 💞
I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one that has invited Chef John into my relationship in this manner 😅
Sneak in a little greek yogurt and red wine vinegar and you got me there, chief.
Yes! The Greek yogurt will help the sandwich hold together better too.
I like the spiciness of a pepperocini pepper in my Greek Salad. I would include that in the sandwich.
Pepperocini not spicy. Do people think they are? Not trying to be an arse I like more heat then that. Pepperocini taste like pickles to me tangy.
5 minutes ago I just watched my first video I’ve ever seen of you. It was from 13 years ago and you had laryngitis that episode. New here but glad you’re still uploading.
Yeah!! Chef John is approaching 4.5 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS!! Way to go Chef! 💯👌
Chopped salads were a gamechanger for me actually eating vegetables/salads. Throwing it into a sandwich makes perfect sense.
Me, too. I hate it when restaurant salads consist of huge pieces and whole lettuce leaves. So hard to eat
beautiful sandwich, my John. If you wanted a "creamy" style dressing, rather than adding the lemon juice, olive oil, feta and oregano individually, you could add them to a small bowl and add maybe a tablespoon of good Greek yogurt and mix those together (and maybe add a little garlic salt or granulated garlic to it as well. And then once it's all mixed together use that as the dressing/ binder for the chop. Either way would be delicious. 🤤
*side note - you basically made the Greek Salad that I pretty much make weekly, but then chopped it up and stuffed it into a sandwich lol
Or tsatziki for the dressing
i used to make a sandwich like this from leftovers for days after roasting a lamb shoulder. Great recipe. Some Garlic sauce or Tzatziki really takes it to another level. One time i made the lamb sandwiches with some Truffle infused oil(which was what i had at the time at the back of the cupboard) and that was outrageous. Good times!!!
Definitely add the tzatziki sauce spread on the bread!
We Yinzers also put French fries on steak salads.
I do not know why we do this.
Michael Scott & Mykonos reference in the same video.... I see what you did there, Spiros would be proud.
And skylos would hope for a bite.
And Caddyshack.
I think by chopping it up smaller the flavors have more surface to coat. Hence a much better taste. Thanks Chef John! This looks so tasty
I love your voice. When you speak it feels like home.
You're my internet dad 💕
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🥰
Love it when my first response to a new video is to print out the recipe and head to the kitchen, LOL!! This really sounds delicious.
I feel that this would be super tasty in a pita pocket!
I recommend that you this on a warmed Kontos pocketless pita. (olive oil rubbed/white).
I did not get hit with a broom and cursed at in Greek for nearly a decade to see this on a crusty roll.
Seems like another way to make a chicken salad sandwich. I love the traditional chicken salad, the cape cod chicken salad with the nuts and grapes in it and now this version. Yum to all the Chicken Salad Recipes out there no matter how they’re made.
chef john, you are a most inspirational sandwich maker! Thank you for being you, dear fellow.
What a great idea! Combining two favorites into one! You’re always full of creative ideas !
I love chopped salad; never had a chopped sandwich, but will definitely try this! So many variations and virtually no cooking; what's not to love? And, when it comes to French fries on sandwiches, I do believe it was invented at Rutgers in New Brunswick, NJ, because they've been serving them since the early 70s!
As a person of Lebanese ancestry, I find the olive selection at my local grocery store to be terribly limited. Only 12 varietals? How do you people live like this??
Look up Within Heaven's Gates by Rebecca Springer. Page 64 😇
Gee. I don't like olives at all, so one kind is too many!
My local Safeway used to have an olive bar, not a large selection but ok. I miss it so much, it’s been gone since the start of COVID. Now my only choice are the jarred ones.
$Whole Foods$ has a good selection of olives at their food bar.
You people? It seems you are living like “this” as well.
Oh my! This looks amazingly delicious! Thank you Chef John for sharing ❤
One thing that I might consider as a modification is adding a bit of tzatziki to it
I think tzatziki would put this over the roof!
For olives the reason there's morre variety than other produce is because once jarred they have a very long shelf life so it's easy to stock multiple varieties as opposed to fruit where only a few may be in season at a single time
This looks lovely but I really want to stuff it into a pita bread instead of a roll
Then you have to change the name from a sandwich to a yiro.
Looks wonderful, light and fresh. 🎉
I've been a subscriber of yours since my early tweens, and I am so happy to see that your voice is just as wonderful as it has always been ✨ Aleays loved all your recipes, Chef John!
It never fails to amaze me how you come up with these fantastic creations!
Will try this recipe...ty chef John
Another thing I found that people from Pittsburgh do is when they make French onion soup, they sauté their onions in Cabernet. It’s a great flavor that I never tasted in any other city. I always wondered if it was just a regional thing.
I made this yesterday and my family loved it. Thank you for doing the video
We Love all Your recipes ❤Thank You so much from my family !
Looks amazing! Great warm weather meal!
τι όμορφο σάντουιτς! καταπληκτικό βίντεο όπως πάντα σεφ! με υγεία!
Wow Chef John, You hit it out of the park today! What a beautiful sandwich on a hot summer night!
Good idea for recipe! Will have to try this
Salad Sandwiches are delicious!🤤
Awesome as always thanks ❤
This may just become my favourite way to use up chicken. Tried it earlier this week and it is delicious!
What a great looking sandwich! Thanks for the idea
I have done this with a Greek salad from my grocery store and added chicken. I used the dressing included with the salad.
That looks amazing!
Wow , must do this. Great summer dinner.❤❤
I have adopted your use of cayenne in pretty much everything!
Yummy! Love greek anything.😊
This is incredibly similar to a Mexican sandwich called a "Torta." It has the chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and onion, but instead of Feta cheese it's usually Monterrey Jack, and instead of olives, it's cilantro. And there's no dressing, but I spread some mashed avocado on one slice of bread, and refried beans (or bean dip as a time-saver) are spread on the other slice.
I'm loving the healthier options
That looks really good.
This looks heavenly 😋 I love salad sandwiches 😄🥗🥪♥️
Being doing something similar with tortillas, i only pull the chicken and have normal slices of the rest (and olive paste, the dark one), truly a lifesaver quick night food.
The combination of tomato, Feta, and black olives is top tier, especially in pasta sauces, with the addition of various herbs and spices.
Great idea
The most difficult part of this recipe for me was sourcing the Greek chicken. Once I got past that, and shipping was a thing, the sandwiches came out wonderfully 😊 Thanks for another great idea Chef.
Hilarious narrative, and John a good man 👌😊
This is one of the best jobs you've ever done.
Looks yaammmy!
Chef John saying "the o-o-old-*insert action here*" will never not fail to make me smile
This looks amazing, I need to try this for weekend lunch with the hubs sometime
Why, why, why do I watch this channel when I'm already hungry?
How cool is that? Now I have to get up from my couch and make it immediately! 😀😀
Great recipe and a tip I'd never thought about: "A roll with pointy ends stays together better than one with square ends." Never occurred to me.
*O* *M* *G* ... _this_ _is_ _divine_ *!!!*
looks good.
Excellent work as always Chef John! Very nice recipe, though as a Greek we wouldn't put lettuce in our Greek salad. Try Armenian cucumber instead of the regular one and also add some cappers and pickled crithmum in it !
Ah man, fantastic!
Chef John has so much self-control I would've made enough filling for like 5 sandwiches lol This sounds so delicious going to have to make this one day!
Great for a picnic.
Love the Caddyshack reference!
Are those the limited time purple kettle chips. We’re out in the whole state of Michigan! Love your content Chef John!!!
This looks fantastic! I’ll add Greek pepperoncini and maybe a small amount of beets. Yum
A drizzle of Greek olive oil is needed. Then wrap it in a tortilla with chopped avocado and capers as an added bonus. 👍
Now I have the munchies.
I feel strongly that Chef John’s cayenne shaker belongs in the Smithsonian
Chef John is indeed a national treasure!
Definitely doing this on some top quality pita bread. Less messy and fewer calories.
Greek yogurt instead of mayo... but it looks good.
Honestly the chop sandwiches are more work trying to chop mix them. Chop all the stuff up separately then toss it all in a bowl. Way less mess to control for those of us who don't have pro sharp knives.
Looks so good! I think I would add some walnuts, too1
You are the best
we call them rolls in Australia, a sandwich is something between 2 slices of bread, just a fun fact
You could add chopped walnuts or pecans, for an added crunch. OR grapes cut in half, or oatmeal for extra texture. SO many ways to make this sandwich your own!
YUMMMMM !
I would Callamata this sandwich the best idea ever. Thanks Chef.
I was just stressing about what to make for dinner because my fridge is almost empty. I have mainly these same ingredients except for chicken. I’m going to make this but to top a burger patty instead and now I can’t wait for dinner!
7:15 - Question not the ways of the Yinzers.
You are the Francis Ford Coppola of how you do the choppa-choppa-chopola.
Been doing this as comfort food for my entire adult life except that instead of a bun I make a large bowl of this and a pack of soft tortillias that I fill with this and some cesar dressing / sourcream based sauce.
Yum yum😊
I love doing this but i like using a toasted pita bread
I have horrible knives but i think this will work well in my food chopper.
Now to make an episode on a Primanti's sammich!
Missed opportunity to spread greek yogurt on the bun, or to make a quick tzatziki. Everything's better with tzat on it.
Get to the choppa choppa!
Dr. Chef John, how do you clean your cutting board after this? I have a nice cutting board, I don't use it all that much cause I don't know the best way to clean it.
“We’ve got that going for us, which is nice.” 😂😂😂
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed the caddyshack reference
I'm wondering if we could add the bread we've taken out back as croutons after toasting them lightly in olive oil and some herbs...
Sounds like a wonderful sandwich, but I would eat it as a salad.
Chef, this looks delicious! Could this be done with roast beef or lamb to make a chopped gyro?
As for why there are so many Olive choices available in the grocery stores. Now, I'm going to say it has something to do with the fact that most of them can be grown in the United States now
I’m hungry now
