John very cool. I was a long time student of Arthur Press way back in the day in Boston. Studied so many interesting techniques like these - these days I also play a great deal of middle eastern music and your special sauce roll reminds me of a sort of adaptation of the split finger roll on the doumbek or frame drum - applied horizontally instead of vertically - I really dig it. Nice invention. I' m teaching some newbies Carmen tonight and over the next few weeks - so it prompted me to see what others are doing on line.. Nice work.

Hey Mitchell! Thanks so much! That's awesome, I remember AP's play-along album from when I was a student at Eastman--really forward-looking. He retired in Alabama and used to sub in the ASO section back in the 2000s when I was still playing there. As for the roll, thank you! You can use it at the end of the Bohemian Dance for sure. Also there's another video on finger rolls that examines the two audition spots from that movement. Let me know what you think! JP

Awesome video! Is this the silver or copper tambourine?

Hi Luis - thanks for watching! Looks like John is using our Chromium 25 tambourine for the excerpts (model TD1).

@@BlackSwampPercussion thank you! I guess it’s because it’s in the hands of John Parks it sounds so much better than when I use it 😅

Beautiful, and I love your ideas and creative approaches. I'm not sure about this but the track was a little too loud to hear your demonstration in parts. It was so precise I wanted to hear you. Nonetheless, excellent demos!

Great job! Which tambourine model are you using? Does the ''special sauce'' roll work with every tambourine (also the ones with darker jingles)?

It sure does! I think that's my Copper tambourine, I'll check today at the office.

Surely for the nutcraker you would want to perform a flip of the tambourine just before the quavers at the end as you will need the tambourine in the skin up position for the next movement of the suite danse arabe?

Hey Kieran, I don't use the same tambourine for all of the movements. I have a different one for the Arabian Dance, Mother Ginger, etc. So I can have a few out there in either up or down position. Make sense?

Ahh I see, that makes more sense!! :)
But I am only fortunate enough to have 1 orchestral tambourine so how would you advise?
