the touchscreen in the tata needs some serious attention.. i totally agree.. thanks for mentioning it.. i test drove a harrier and the touchscreen really let it down.. even the lower segment cars have gud imfortainment units these days

No 4x4 No SUV. Awesome review guys. You nailed it in last 5 minutes. The name Safari carry lots of weight, but this one, not bad , but not Safari till they have ONE HELL OF 4x4 Machinery on this.
I live in the hills and 10:10 was on point! I can live without AWD, but a large car(suv if you insist) that is front wheel driven ain't gonna help, a rear wheel drive performs like magic on muddy uphills. This much I know by experience!

That's the grime I have with the New Safari. It's a "Stretched Harrier" "Essentially a 7 Seater Harrier" "Harrier with two more seats" It's consistently overshadowed by it's younger sibling and viewed in the same eye as that. A Fwd stretched Crossover can never Justify the Name tag of the legend. As a Storme owner and a long time Safari fan, I am of all things, #Dissappointed.

Firstly, though as usual (awesome is now zigwheels std, Lol) a well put together review, the camera and edit crew being awesome as usual. Coming back to the vehicle, like many of the 80s-90s kids, to me Safari was THE SUV. It reliability being another story, no other indian vehicle had its presence. Even after Scorpio came in, Safari held it own. So for me its more of an emotional connection (Have only driven it for a few kms once) So loss of proper 4x4 is pure an emotional thing for me. In that sense, Safari in the new avatar isnt so much of a disappointed. I like the styling of the 7 seater more than the 5. Not a fan of white interiors though. It will be a pain to maintain in our dusty conditions even if you use AC all the time. For example 04:50 the felt lining on the inside of the rear captain was already soiled in a brand new car. I am happy that handbrake lever from the Harrier has been done away with. I was very skeptical of Tata using the 'Safari' name on the Gravitas but I think its not as bad as i thought it would be. About the Safari missing out on Rear wheel drive, since this is only a FWD, I would like for Zigwheels to pit the 2WD OG safari or Dicor 2.2VTT or 2.2 Varicor against the new safari off road, just to get a sense of how much the new Safari misses out on (if at all)

Interesting point on the faux roof rails for sunroof configuration. My question is can these faux roof rails be changed for an after market proper roof rail. Or there is a structural issue in having this possible

honestly how much do they save by not giving the middle seat passenger a headrest in the 2nd row. also if you are in the 3rd row and happen to get rear-ended... wonder what gonna happen to you. the headrest is practically kissing the rear

One of the best reviews Karthik. Carrying forward the name of a legend is both curse and a blessing. Curse because it will be compared against the previous generations and blessings because its known name and no new identity needs to be established. I did thought over it the previous gen Safari was never a commercially hit (for records Hexa too which I personally own and am proud to own one). But still its a legend in its own rights, its got huge fan following. A vehicle is never perfect and it should never be but last gen Safari had lot of character whether it was the bold SUV stance or the high seating position. But why it never got the commercial success is a mystery. Business can't run on emotions and you need volume for making the product a success. Hopefully this time Tata has executed it well but they need to add more features as you said to make it more competent. Also all 7 seater has boot space issues including my Hexa but this is a bit small. If Tata could have smartly packaged the last row seat this could have been avoided, however all 7 seat occupancy doesn't happen 80% of the time so I think it should be ok considering XUV 500 also had the smallest boot. Now all eyes on XUV 500, lets see what the competition brings till then Tata do have time to add more features to the Safari.

A bonnet scoop will make its look way better and unique from Harrier. Front Collision warning and lane departure warning should be made standard and it will make it a global car competing with any high end names in the market.
Bit confusing. It is not traditional and old school like a Safari should because it has features. But it doesn't have enough features to take on competition. Btw nice and detailed review. You always nailed it sir.
8:50.. i swear that clutch travel is such a pain. The same issue was in harrier also. If you move the seat in front to compensate for the clutch travel you end up hitting your knee in the console. The cards are incredible but how is no one talking about such a huge ergonomic flaw?

There is a head rest. It is adjustable and can disappear when not in use for better visibility.
I use to criticize him thinking he is biased and all(personal opinion). Got to say true spirit review for the holy tata Safari.

That's what wrong with the steering tuning, it's very heavy at low speeds and gets light as speeds climb up! It should be the other way around
