I just ran my first full conference on the Wing this past weekend. On the whole, I loved it! I travel with my board and am usually the main mix engineer, so the volunteer thing isn't a huge issue. The custom controls were super flexible, and made mixing so much more fluid. I used them mostly for reverb settings. I also had to switch setups between our band and Matt Papa's band half way through the weekend and then go back again. The fact that the channels and sources were independent made these transitions way easier! I could plug someone's mic into a new channel and then just change the routing quickly. Our band also rehearses offsite before the event, so that fact that I could set up in a new place, and then switch to the multi track and mix to the room before the band arrived was huge! As to that grey section in the top right, I ended up using it most often to adjust my low cut filter. At our conferences we have a bunch of different speakers and I find adjusting the low cut as the easiest way to adjust EQ between different people, at least as a first step. Since on the touch screen you have to dig a bit to get to that, I found it was nice to use it there. I also used it occasionally for gain, but I agree with what you guys said that it might be more useful as something else. I also wish the buttons and knobs in the very top right could be custom controls too. Coming form an X32 Compact, the biggest thing I loved was being able to see more channels in the user layers as I was mixing. The plugins also made me feel much more creative as I was working to dial in the sound.
The biggest hidden feature in my opinion is the "PRE FDR EQ" which essentiality gives you a "monitor split" within every channel. The only other console that has it as far as I know is the $200k+ Digico SD7. I personally love the Wing.

I love to hear someone say that the x32 is not flexible. Coming from someone that used to mix on a first gen presonus, it makes the x32 seem like there’s way too much flexibility and customization. When my church finally got their hands on one, it really pushed the limits for us in terms of what a sound system could be
I love the WING. We have it in our church for a few months now and it feels amazing to use as I'm also a DAW person, everything makes sense. I love the flexibility and the customizability. That being said, it's kinda hard to learn if you're new, some of the stuff are just things that are available for WING. The 4 mains are something unusual, there's a main fader that feeds those 4 and you can access each of those 4 mains through a sends-on-fader flip. Just a few months ago, I also hate the fact that it doesn't have a preset library for channels. Now it does with the new 2.0 update as well as better show controls. I don't like how the pitch correction is designed. I'd just like to select a key and scale and just automatically turn on and off the notes that need to be but right now you have to manually turn on/off the notes and you need to do that in every single one instance of that plugin. Imagine having to run 5 of them. The workaround right now is to set them as snippets as part of the show and set them on a user key. Anyway, I still think it's the most amazing console in its price range and the flexibility you get out of it is somewhat similar to the bigger bois. Not to mention it has more type of plugins that are also really useful. You can use a full SSL or Neve type channel strip as an insert in addition to your normal channel strip. That is amazing. Also I use the section on the right side of the touch screen especially the "listen" function which enables you to solo the band that you are adjusting on the EQ which I've only seen on some VST plugins. It can be used for quick adjustment without digging through layers. Just select a channel and turn a knob.
The channelstrip on the right side is just fantastic! :) On kn ob activates 48V / gaining / filters and all the jobs are just done within seconds without touching one single time on the display.
This feels like a fair assessment. 👍 Thanks guys! I think the point about knowing the limits of your understanding was really good, that's why I don't really recommend it to most churches we work with yet. It's just above their head. I think the downside to the custom layers is the fact that every Wing you walk up to is going to be different. I like custom layers, however I think the lack of them is what helped the X32 succeed. A volunteer who's used another console knew exactly what controls were available when walking up to any other X32.
Good helpful video, thanks. Many points well made. Note that with the updated firmware, X32 now has much more flexible routing as a selectable option - not just 1-1, 1-9 etc. as mentioned. So you can keep to the original 'simpler' (but quite restrictive) sets of 8, or opt to use the individual (so called 'User') routing facility.
Coming from an analogue board, the biggest selling point for me was use by multiple users/congregations. Just load the correct backup and all settings are configured for the new user. Also, accidental board changes are erased with a simple restore.
Man keep the videos coming, I love it,, Since James brought up the new presonus board and I think he actually owns one, could you tell us about the sound quality comparison of the Presonus versus the Behringer. Thanks

You could maybe move to some people to having the p-16 m mixers, especially stationary people like the drummer. That way they can mix the in-ears themselves and it doesn''t take up a bus. At 07'30" it's a false statment on the X32 since the firmware 4 and the point to point user routing option. Come on guys, it is out for more than a year now...
I will like to know if Behringer has been able to solve the hardware issue as it concerns Ghost screen. This has been the big problem being faced by most people with the Wing
I found the issue has to do with the screen warming up. If you turn the screen intensity down, the issue goes away. Before I sent mine off for repair, it took 4 months, I was running the screen intensity at 13%. I could still see just fine.
I'm sure you can find 3rd party testing. For churches, in my experience, having a board with high quality pre-amps and ect doesn't equal a better sound if volunteers can't easily operate it.
I have a question about transitioning from a an x32 to a wing. Our church is going to upgrade pretty soon and I was wondering how the mono-stereo channels work. We have stereo keys that take up two channels on our x32 and stage box. Since the wing has a channel that is both mono or stereo, how would we integrate that to the stage box? Would the stagebox still take up 2 L and R channels or no?
Yeah, all wing channels can be stereo. When you set it to stereo input, it uses 2 channels on the stage box. Channel 1 and channel 2 for example. I don't believe you can mix and match left and right channels. For example it needs to be input channels 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, not whatever combination you want.
@@jacobbontrager ok so say if I have keys on channel 1 on the wing, it would take up channels 1 and 2 on the stagebox? If that’s the case then what would channel 2 from the wing be on the stagebox?
@@cityofpraisetv I am not familiar with the X32, but from my understanding, the Wing has much more powerful digital routing capabilities inside the board. You can route any stage box input to any channel on the board. You just need to be sure stereo channels are side by side.

Context: Currently using an Analogue Mixer, looking to go digital. Not a lot of tech savvy volunteers in the Church. So it has to be easy to use for everyone.

Make a list of all the reasons you want to go digital, how many bus (aux) mixes you will need (consider things like IEMs, broadcast mix etc and whether you will want any of these stereo), think about where you might want to go in the future.
To give you some general info about these;
The QU is one of the most basic options. It's very similar to analogue in operation so the chances are there's very little workflow adjustment to use this. It has good user control so you can lock away some features which can be useful. The flipside is that it's not very flexible, you'll still be labelling channels with tape and having to manually repatch things etc to stop it being confusing. It's also not very expandable and limited in connectivity so if you try and expand in the future it may need replacing. X32 is more flexible, and can expand and connect into different setups more easily. However it's a bit more confusing to use potentially, lacks the locking features, and it can be easy to run out of mix buses when you use stereo IEMs etc.
For other options:
If you are savvy then the Wing can be really easy to use once set up, but the workflow is very different to analogue
A&H SQ series is more similar to the QU and so not a massive change in workflow to analogue, but is a lot more modern and flexible
It's still 48kHz output frequency, right? Is quite a difference in what goes out to the speakers compared to a 96kHz output.

I agree with you get a Yamaha Digital Mixer, easy to use, easy to train volunteers, easy routing, Can be integrated to Dante without any issues. I love it. I have been using TF5 since 2019, no issues so far
Like you were asking him… then interjecting your opinion… would rather you have done your own and his own. Just my .02
Jake I never 👎 like the way you speak to peoples businesses .
Jake leave people to make their own decisions about their consoles.
Remember we are serving a wonderful God the father.
Whatever you say the work of Christ will continue by people buying behringer wing consoles .
