A good budget-friendly way to buy is shopping at thrift and consignment stores. I have found well- made, excellent quality items for as little as $4. Be patient and check them well. You could be happily surprised.

Thrift stores around me are pretty rubbish but I recently discovered a thrifting app that has been a game changer!
I just scored a near new 100% wool-cashmere blend full length classic winter coat for 25€ (30$)! It would have easily been worth 10x that when new.
I keep a running list of what I need, my favourite brands, sizes, measurements, etc, then spend a couple hours searching through the app for it.
If I see something I really like in store I'll note down the details (brand, store, price, etc) and add that to my shopping list.
A couple months ago I saw a skirt I loved in store. Tried it on, decided I wanted it but didn't want to pay store price for it. A month later I found it "new with tags" for 1/3 of the price!

Ever since I banished prints from my wardrobe except in accessories, my fall wardrobe styling has become so much easier. All I do now is grab a top, decide if I'm going complimentary or contrasting then select a bottom and jacket to match or contrast. I still struggle with spring and summer styling because it's more print-heavy, but I'm getting better at it.

You are so right about using a capsule wardrobe. I recently went on a trip and had to pack intentionally. I started with the colors navy and green because I have a lot of those.comfortable shoes (3), 3 bottoms, 3 tops, and added jackets or outerwear. It took some time to adjust the pieces so that everything went together and didn’t look like I was wearing the same clothes for days. Also, you can make several “capsules”. I made another capsule set using black and cream as my base. Once you have the outfits, the accessories are easy to choose. The pieces that I tried to use but never went with anything, I either got rid of or I get something to go with them.

I love the look of the striped sweater. I went out of my way this summer and got a lightweight cotton navy/white stripe sweater. I’m having a hard time keeping that sweater on. It still has the tags on it and I say this because I’m a DD bust, and I just feel it adds volume. The last nine months I have been watching closely what I ate, and have lost 40 pounds so my hope is eventually I’ll feel more comfortable in this sweater. Thank you

    Loved your tip about STRUCTURE.
Meant to comment on your shoe video: I love the color of your pale blue Adidas. That blue is classic with beige, but can be fresh and modern when paired with caramel, toffee, chocolate brown. Pale blue can also push the envelope paired with yellow-greens and almost mustard for a sweet and sour dissonance. An all-sweet option might be inspired by the way a warm sunset reflects on a white picket fence: sunlit patches are lit up in pale oranges and the shadows read as cool blues. Beautiful.
For fall, you have so many beautiful browns in your wardrobe that would look gorgeous with the blue Adidas. And of course denim.
You made a good call passing on the brown Adidas because they were so similar to the burgundy. And you have other brown shoes in other shapes and textures. You've got all bases covered.
After your astute observations on the t-strap angles, I saw a similar effect on the curved lines of the Western silhouette Vionic boots. Instead of a straight horizontal line cutting your legs off, the sides curving down in a V on the front seam makes your legs look longer and the curved line is not as abrupt and would look good with a skirt.
Now that we're getting cooler weather, please do a video about layering and accessories. You touched on the structured element today, but when I start adding layers it does not feel right, I am not used to it and I wind up leaving a pile of rejects at the door before I leave the house. I feel overwhelmed, but sometimes I just want to wear a baseball cap. Then do I need to stick to sunglasses, bag and shoes but skip a scarf and jewelry? When could I wear a cozy blanket scarf? I feel overwhelmed.
I hope you have a great week.
    👟👢👟👢❤

This is focusing on different silhouettes which I find many women tend to wear the same silhouette over and over again… but just in different colors or patterns. Living in the PNW I have gotten into the habit of mostly wearing jeans and sweatshirts…but I’m on a mission to dress more thoughtfully now. I have new J Crew t-shirts that just arrived, one black and one white, lol. I think your ideas are spot on and you have a great way of explaining them. When I was about 30 I wore a tonal navy blue outfit with a navy blazer to Nordstrom, and a couple shoppers asked if I worked there. That is the memory that popped up when you spoke of adding a structured piece to an outfit. Looking forward to your future videos.

I rotate work clothes for 2 weeks. changing out with assorted vest, belt or scarf. I would never wear a puffer coat, horizontal stripe, moto jacket or sweatshirt. I rarely wear anything camel. Usually opt for black, grey or navy trousers and skirts, assorted tops/ tunics and tights, a few dresses, short ankle boots, a pair of white runners. Fall is well past ballet flats at this time of year- around 32F. when I leave for work.

My favorite tip you went over was mixing two neutrals and a color. Obviously, there will be variables that warrant utilizing other styles, but as a general rule, and more so on the female side of the house, mixing it up a bit does not go wrong too often. Another tip up there in rank is to peruse a mag or sites such as Pinterest etc. to just kind of look and see what appeals to you and to try it if possible. It will either work or not but if it does you will know it.

Really good and practical tips. I've got 2 problem areas I'd love to see you address: 1) I work from home or wear suits (UGH!) when visiting customers (medical sales). When I am at home, I have gotten in the habit of not "getting dressed" meaning I pretty much wear work out clothes all day. I'm sick of it but feel putting on clothes is over dressing (WOW! I just said that.) And 2) I'm tired of wearing suits and would like to hear your thoughts on dressing professionally without wearing a suit--at least some of the time. Also, your mic worked well.

Thank you for simplify the formula, I have so many basics now , what I really need to do is play around in my closet with the colors, textures and styles... I've come to the conclusion that although I love seeing certain styles on others,I personally don't feel comfortable using those styles in my everyday wardrobe, I mostly do errands and family style restaurants with friends... So I have been wearing straight leg jeans more often with stylish tops and slid my skinny jeans aside... It's taking a lot within me to push aside my skinny jeans😂

Very interesting video today. The Pinterst breakdown is a good way to make sense out of the inspiration. I wonder if instead of calling it a capsule wardrobe, people started calling it a 'Coordinated Collection' or 'Coordinated Wardrobe' it would lose some of the scariness. The word capsule always sounds so restricting and small.
Lots of great tips and ways to put things together. A little planning goes a long way to looking pulled together. Thank you for sharing!

Loved this vlog. I have been working away from home 2 weeks and my limited clothes I have styled a dozen ways. I’m going on a cruise next month.. I keep stressing but if I implement what you say and my clothes last two weeks I’ll be okay.
    Thanks for the advice.

Well done Anna and hope you don't mind me adding my two-cents but now that I am up in age I find for dress-up wear, the purchase of a quality jacket that hits at the waist is far more versatile than a long coat and can look just as glamorous. Reason given; basically they can be worn with any hem length or type of bottom as well as footwear. Plus there is also less concern of weight and bulk, not to mention cost comparison which generally is less.

I'm too much of a maximalist to have just 20 pieces in my closet ( I like color & variety)but I do use the idea of a capsule wardrobe to organize my closet & make any additional purchases. So I have capsules within my closet by color & somewhat by season. ( Where I currently live is warm to hot 10 months out of the year so there's no seasonal closet change out) I'm definitely a tonal or monochromatic dresser & I have my closet organized by color/ item. Tops, dresses, pants. I hang most of what I have except pj's & underwear/socks/ leggings/workout. I'm very much a jacket person ( it could be a lightweight duster sweater or crochet cardigan or kimomo) over basics & maxi dresses but I highly recommend having 2 coats. One short & one long. If you spend most of your time in a car, you'll probably need a shorter coat but if you live in a walkable city & take public trans a longer coat will be indispensable. I walk a lot & we go into the city for theatre & concerts so I like having a long coat to wear over a dress on a cooler evening. The formula idea of analyzing pinterest outfits is great. People get hung up on individual specific items & then look to buy that exact top or pant instead paying attention to the formula & silhouette. Loose over slim, slim over loose, short over long, etc. If you organize your closet by color/ item or even just color, it becomes obvious what your neutrals & accessories should be & what colors dominate in your wardrobe. You might think twice before buying another white blouse or black dress 😊

Love this!! I think I need to do a whole video on the capsule wardrobe but the name gives me anxiety 😂😂 I definitely have more than 20 items in my closet BUT having tops and bottoms that all go together in many different ways has been a game changer so that's more the point I was getting at. Also, I love my color coordinated closet, too! It just works! ❤️❤️❤️

Anna this video is a godsend for me!!
As I was listening I was quite literally missing one of my tops that I got from target 5 years ago but unfortunately had to declutter since I couldn’t get a stain out!!
Lo and behold, you showed an EXACT dupe of it to the point of having a horizontal ribbed pattern!! 🥺
I can’t tell you how excited I am. Getting two whites this time since I can’t bear the thought of getting it dirty.
    Thank you!! 🤍🤍

Hi Anna, I have to stay on a budget so I buy lots of beautiful made in USA clothes at estate sales. I just found a beautiful wool cream cost with a large faux fur neckline. I agree sometimes a nice longer coat adds a lot. All great points as usual Anna. I have a pair L Conrad jeans…love them. ❤❤❤

Thank you Anna, 💐 lovely video with a lot of very useful advice. I will surely see my clothes now from a different, better point of view. I think a long, nice coat belted up does magic, for gentlemen, too! Everyone looks pulled together, as long as the coat is closed, it does not even matter so much whats worn under it. Over here, it is already cold enough that one can wear the coat while skimming through a supermaket. Wore mine to Aldi yesterday 🤭

I wash my turtleneck sweaters and hang to dry. before hanging, I stretch out the actual turtleneck as much as possible. then, when wearing, I roll the neck to the inside. gives a much cleaner look. try it.

Anna you actually live in a great city to thrift, I used to travel there often to go to the thrift stores, and got great things that were expensive if bought new. Between you and other influencers I've been able to shop my closet and put pieces together I never thought of. I just bought a off white wide leg jeans from Kohls made by draper James they fit perfect and on sale.
