Great video guys! All your stuff so far is very interesting & entertaining, always filmed with a level of spontaneity and charm. It's always exciting for a native like me seeing Greece through the eyes of people from other countries/cultures/backgrounds. Even a very ordinary thing, like a visit to the supermarket, can become an adventure of discovery when you move to a new place. In the island I live in, Lefkada, Lidl is my supermarket of choice on account of prices, quality & variety of products. We have almost all of the major Greek grocery chains (AB, Sklavenitis, My Market, Market In) and after trying and testing all of them I can safely say it's by far the cheapest overall and with a high degree of quality. The only chain that has a greater variety of products is AB but it's by far the most expensive. What I especially like on Lidl is the design of their stores, right down to the price tags. It seems far more professional than any other chain. I also like the fact that they sell stuff beyond food and house supplies (like tools, seeds, gardening equipment etc.) Most of their private label brands are on par with the stuff that's constantly advertised (and is far more expensive). Most people don't realise that it's the same factories/product facilities that produce these goods and the difference is just the label. I usually buy fruits & vegetables (frozen and fresh), milk, cheese (except feta of course - you have to get the local, unpacked stuff) yoghurt, spices, canned mushrooms & fruits, pasta, legumes and nuts. Also all my cleaning products & bathroom supplies. Never had an issue with the quality of the products. If I can't find a specific fruit or meat I can always go to the farmer's market or at a local butcher/fisherman. I also find it very interesting that every week they have a "themed" section with products from other countries. I often try some of these products just for fun. The only problem is that some of those products are really great and you have to wait for a long time till they bring them back (on another "themed" week). They also have limited edition products that are available for a short time or on specific seasons. That is the case with your pistacchio spread Amalia. I 've tried it also, along with a chestnut one, and they were absolutely amazing. Haven't seen them though for quite a long time now. As for recommendations I have to say my latest obsessions from Lidl are the "Alesto" Cashew-Peanut Mix with Honey & Salt and the "Pork & Chicken Gyoza" with Gyoza Sauce that I discovered on an Asian themed week and I'm afraid it won't be available again soon enough. It would be nice to meet you guys in person but Crete is very far from my island. Sorry for this very long message, keep up the great work!

LIDL in Greece, sells many products from the local area (don't know if it's the same for other European countries). In the LIDL market in my area (northern Greece), they sell many very local diary & meat products that you can't find in other LIDL markets in Greece. By the way, i have seen many commenter saying that meat, dairy products etc. are bad and shouldn't be bought... I would say It depends. It not black & white. As long as they have the mentions the country origin on products (usually from EU countries), you are fine. I definitely prefer buying fresh meat from a local butchery or from Greek Supermarkets with integrated butchery (or fresh Fish from the fish market). But if i can't find what i want from those shops, i just get it from LIDL. When there is a Greek flag on the product, it's produced in Greece (obviously). Some other in the comment section said that ΓΑΛΠΟ is a "bad" product LOL... That's nonsense. ΓΑΛΠΟ (GALPO) is just a sub brand from ΚΟΛΙΟΣ (KOLIOS), made just for LIDL Greece. KOLIOS is one of the oldest & biggest FETA, cheese and diary manufacturers in Greece. A good quality brand that exports its products to the whole world. They get their milk from certified Dairy farms (goat, sheep, cow) in my area here Macedonia (not the fake slavic imposter country) and Thrace. Their production facilities are near Thessaloniki. GALPO as far as i know, is only sold in Greek & Cyprian LIDL markets. You can taste the difference between Kolios FETA and Galpo FETA. The original brand Kolios, ripes longer in barrels than Galpo. But makes it also more expensive... The quality of the ingredients are the same. There is another brand called "Milbona". It's a very known LIDL brand. This LIDL brand has producers/dairy farms from all over Europe (UK, Germany, Romania, Netherlands, France, Greece, Italy etc.). Kolios is also part of it. And produces many products with this brand name for LIDL. Those products are sold in Greece and all over Europe.

Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share all this information with us!🙏 We really appreciate that! Now, with so much information about feta and recommendations, we have to make a video testing them and which one is the best for us. We like the products from Lidl, we shopped at Lidl in all the countries we lived in.
Having lived in the UK for 5 years in regards to vegetables, fruits and meats they’re just almost totally flavorless. Here in Greece all vegetables, fruits, and meats have a very delicious taste and strong aroma. I’ve heard it’s due to the dryer weather. I don’t know.. 🤷🏻♂️
Youre right, its like here in Sweden, the vegetables are tasteless. Its very dufficult for example making gemista with the tomatoes we have, that are grown in greenhouses and imported from the Netherlands.
Greece is the world leader at fish farming for sea bream (τσιπούρα) and sea bass (λαβράκι). It's almost the only thing that I still buy at lidl when it comes to food, because they get it sufficiently fresh. No meat or dairy.
I would say that the meat section of lidl is one of the worst in the market my favourite is from sklavenitis and also masoutis has very good quality on everything
More comments... In US or UK one eats because of need, here is more because of pleasure. Still. And this is why you won't find so many ready-made meals - we want to cook, to enjoy our food and, when possible, share it (and the pleasure) with others. I guess you have already noticed this last one, if you are in Crete. Also, chicken costs about 3 euros/kg. Buying separately the pieces will cost you three times as much. You may buy 3 whole chickens, use the pieces you need and freeze the rest for other meals.
Greece is expensive comparing to the Netherlands. The average income is much higher in the Netherlands. And the prices are the same or a bitore expensive

Hello, in Greek SM's you will rearely find good watermelons , almost impossible, only in the open market (where you have made a video off) you will find good wtatermelons
@Sunpire Some yes, some no . Like we bought chicken that was a Greek product but I'm not exactly sure about all the products. You can check the online app they have .Every Greek product is mentioned there with a Greek flag , especially if it's on sale .
ION is the best chocolate in Greece. About the watermelon the stem that has to be brown in a lie, simply not true. I chose stem that is still green. It has to have the yellow/white spot meaning that watermelon was lying on the field long enough. the most important for me is to knock on it and (hard to describe in words) but you have to get the vibe and the sound when you knock it that is full of water. If the sound is dull and feels empty it is overriped.
12:00 I would not recommend buying meat from any supermarket, find a good butcher shop and you will have both better quality meat and about 20% cheaper prices than those packaged offerings.
@@Sunpire That is why I said a good butcher shop!! Unfortunately I cannot give you a recommendation for Chania since I have relocated almost a decade now, but if you do like your meat, a googling for "κρεοπωλείο χανιά" and a mini safari on the results would definitely be worth it.
For a sweet watermelon you need the stem to be dry/brown and for the watermelon to have a light/dry spot on one side. Groceries in general are so expensive in Greece compared to most European countries. Even things that are imported FROM Greece, they are cheaper in Berlin, than they are in Greece! or same price in Melbourne. This doesn't make sense.

Its a shame that you csn't find real German products in Lidl Greece..there is no leberwurst no marzipan no lebkuchen no sauetkraut or ritkohlsalat or real German wurst or so many things.WHY..WHY ??? Can somebody tell ????i hate this.
Feta is THE greek cheese (PDO) and every county will argue that theirs is the best. Avoid stereotypes like "X shop has the best or the worst" and just pick a few, try and stay with the one you prefer. Any shop may sell any quality at any given moment (except maybe of specialised stores). Soft, medium or hard, with or without herbs or spices, it is still feta. There are a few that I personally prefer (from areas like Vytina or Kalavryta) but that's a matter of taste, if not a matter of word of mouth. The best way is to start with the normal, hard, common feta (trying from a few production areas) and then... experiment. Trial and error has always been a good way.
Thank you so much for watching and for the tips!💙🙏 There are so many types of cheese here, and they are all great in different ways. It's a pleasure to experiment.
DONT buy meat from any supermarket just DONT, there are shops called butcheries , google map it and choose from there , its a pity to be on crete and eat meat from uganda tynisia and zambia the sausage thingies are nice but they fare ull of margarine ok amalia is a bad influence
@@Sunpire italy and greece import theyre beef from africa mainly for supermarkets and cheap resto's , this isnt the problem , the problem with supermarkets is that the meat is not fresh and definatelly not preserved corectly , they get tons of frozen meats , defrost them in night shifts and send them as fresh the next morning , the first day theres not a big problem but after that the meat is treated as fresh by the workers in the shops and all kinds of germs start growing many ready made traditional dishes are made in china and shiped to greece for less than 60cents per dish ... these are the ones you should be avoiding for real
@@Sunpire Just find a local butchery and enjoy the real meat. . Lidl is something i would avoid in any country ,sorry but this is the true, especially when it comes to my food..
Lidl is the only supermarket I would never buy meat from. Sklavenitis, Vasilopoulos, Kritikos have way better quality red and white meat selections, plus they are not prepackaged; you can actually pick the piece you want at the butcher's section. Moreover, I would never buy dairy from Lidl. Good brand milk is always more expensive than in domestic supermarket chains (e.g. Sklavenitis), feta cheese is prepackaged in Lidl, while in domestic supermarket chains, at the cheese section, you can buy good brand feta (e.g. Dodoni, Epiros, Kalavriton) for less money. P.S. Stay away from whichever product reads ΓΑΛΠΟ. Many years ago I made the mistake of buying ΓΑΛΠΟ yogurt, due to its low price, and it tasted like lime (not the fruit, the other thing they use in construction); never again!!

Yes, you are right about the UK part. We don't know why there is more flavour here in Greece for vegetables, fruits and meat..
Thank you very much for this tip 🙏 😊 💙 💙
I would say that the meat section of lidl is one of the worst in the market my favourite is from sklavenitis and also masoutis has very good quality on everything
Thank you for watching and dropping a comment!🙏 do you think the butchery would be better than Skalvenitis?🤔
That fresh fish is very fresh and delicious better than the one from the open market , its also on a good price
That's really good to know!🙏💙
on 25:35 just try high protein dakaki and breadsticks best snacks if you want to eat something healthy.
Thank you very much for watching us and for advice 💙💙🙏🤗
No lidl in Australia but nice to watch your video
Thank you for watching! 🙏💙 we had no idea about that! Good to know!
Is there an Aldi?
Look for watermelon that have large yellow patches. I saw some watermelons in this video with yellow patches.
Thank you for watching and for the tips! 🙏💙
Yes, you are right on all the points ✅️ ✅️
Where I live int the US boneless chicken thighs are about $2 per pound, so about 2 euro for 500 gram
I find that really cheap... Is it cheap for the US?
that lidl is at Leptokarya right?!?! :D
Is near Synka and near iguana beach ⛱️
Greece is expensive comparing to the Netherlands. The average income is much higher in the Netherlands. And the prices are the same or a bitore expensive
It is a bit expensive...
Lidl has about 166 stores in the US, but it appears they are all located on the east coast
Is Lidl new to US?
@@Sunpire first Lidl in the US opened June 2017 in Virginia
Is there an Aldi store in Us?

Hello, in Greek SM's you will rearely find good watermelons , almost impossible, only in the open market (where you have made a video off) you will find good wtatermelons
Thank you for watching!🙏 We're usually buying watermelon from the locals 🍉
Greece's Lidl has mostly Greek products, unlike other countries .
Is the meat as well from Greece?
@Sunpire Some yes, some no . Like we bought chicken that was a Greek product but I'm not exactly sure about all the products. You can check the online app they have .Every Greek product is mentioned there with a Greek flag , especially if it's on sale .
@@Sunpire Just tipe the word Lidl Hellas
We have the app, and we saw the little flags on some products! This is very good to know for foreigners. Thank you for commenting 🙏
Thank you very much for watching us and for advice 💙💙🙏🤗. I fell like watermelon 🍉 is so random when you buy it....
@@Sunpire it will come with experience :)
Glad you enjoy living in Greece (especially on Crete ;). For us Cretans Crete is our heaven on earth
For us Crete heaven on earth as well. We can talk hours about why and how ✨️✨️✨️💙💙
12:00 I would not recommend buying meat from any supermarket, find a good butcher shop and you will have both better quality meat and about 20% cheaper prices than those packaged offerings.
Definitely, we agree with you on the quality 👌 💙. On the price, at least for us we couldn't find a butcher cheaper than in supermarkets...
Most people by fresh milk in those cartons so its better to buy smaller batches so it won't go bad if you can't finish it
Yes, we like the smaller ones 1L 💙💙
The best thing in Lidl from their products is their ice cream. It is way better than the expensive Greek brands.
Thank you very much for watching and sharing!🙏
I don't like lidl ice.cream. I like Galaxia grocery chain ice cream in greece.
We love the pastry from lidl 🥹
We love it too 💙💙
We love goat milk 🤣🤣
Tip n1 Don't buy your meat and your vegetables / fruits in lidl maybe you can get a sea bream but thats about it
Thank you for watching and for the tips 🙏
For a sweet watermelon you need the stem to be dry/brown and for the watermelon to have a light/dry spot on one side.
Groceries in general are so expensive in Greece compared to most European countries.
Even things that are imported FROM Greece, they are cheaper in Berlin, than they are in Greece! or same price in Melbourne. This doesn't make sense.
Thank you for watching and for the tips!🙏
We will make a video with a grocery price comparison between some countries soon !
Wine is not sold in super markets here in Sweden😊
Really? Why is that please?
@@Sunpire Theres a monopoly on alkohol here, its only sold in a specific " alcohol shops" owned by the state/governmemt and you have to be 20 years old to purchase alcohol in such a shop
So interesting! Didn't know about this! Thanks for sharing 🙏
rule no1. Don't buy fish, meat or vegetables from supermarkets. Simple as that
Ok, we understand . But can you explain bit why not please?
❤
Disarono 💙💙
What about prices?
We have a full video on that coming up
I live in Athens and i have 3 main super markets near me ...Lidl ... Sklavenitis and my market....
I usually go to Lidl for only some thinks ..Like Kardis products who actually i see that you love too .. chocolates ...beer ....Sone cans of tuna and tuna salad ,( much cheaper that other super markets especially when have offer's) Halva....You must try the white Goat cheese...and the prices to bahars ( peppers.. salt ..paprika ..garlic dust ..ets ) is far more cheeper from other greek supermarkets
Usually i don't buy meat from Lidl except sometimes chicken nuggets ) ... Potatoes especially this one in Green package is the best far frozen potatoes in greece ...And the prices especially when have offers in sun oil are the best ...
I hope to help ...Have a nice stay here in Greece...
@veteranos2459 Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share these with us! We really appreciate it!🙏 Very useful tips💙
Thank you so much for watching and for the tips!💙🙏
There are so many types of cheese here, and they are all great in different ways. It's a pleasure to experiment.
DONT buy meat from any supermarket just DONT, there are shops called butcheries , google map it and choose from there , its a pity to be on crete and eat meat from uganda tynisia and zambia
the sausage thingies are nice but they fare ull of margarine ok amalia is a bad influence
Thank you for this advice 🙏💙💙. Is meat on Crete brought here from Tunisia, Uganda am Zambia? Really?
@@Sunpire italy and greece import theyre beef from africa mainly for supermarkets and cheap resto's , this isnt the problem , the problem with supermarkets is that the meat is not fresh and definatelly not preserved corectly , they get tons of frozen meats , defrost them in night shifts and send them as fresh the next morning , the first day theres not a big problem but after that the meat is treated as fresh by the workers in the shops and all kinds of germs start growing
many ready made traditional dishes are made in china and shiped to greece for less than 60cents per dish ... these are the ones you should be avoiding for real
@@Sunpire Just find a local butchery and enjoy the real meat. . Lidl is something i would avoid in any country ,sorry but this is the true, especially when it comes to my food..
Thank you so much for all the info and advice 🙏 We really appreciate it!
