Pop songs back in early 2010’s were simple that’s what made them so great and fun you give me a kick drum on every beat like a metronome and some high hats with some catchy chords or bass and good melody you’re good
The space that exists because there are so few tracks on that beat makes it sound way better in my opinion. So as many have echoed already, the simplicity is what somehow makes it so good.
@@DudeTotally1000 ok? Good for you. Sometimes people want to listen to unpredictable, experimental, Avant garde music too. There is a reason why so many different styles of music exists. Sometimes I like to listen to simple hip hop beats and sometimes I like to listen to complex avant garde jazz. It isn't that complicated of a concept.
@wm1573 No but more often than not an over-thought, experimental piece isn't going to be as good as something more simple to most people . Complexity doesn't equal better is all I'm saying.
@@xgskrillax Some of the time it works but when you have so little elements, they have to sound perfect and most of all you have to make up for it in the arrangement. It can sound too simple and boring.
There’s an art to picking the right sounds and melodies though for sure. There are plenty of people that will try the exact same but won’t have the ability to choose the right sounds and melodies to make it work. Definitely requires a good few thousand hours experience to know.
I think that nowadays people overproduce their sh*t. In my eyes if you do a realy good sound selection, layer just right amount of tracks and if you apply creative mixing, you should be fine with less tracks. Mixing 120+ tracks is a nightmare more so than not. So for me, less is more in terms of this kind of music
@yibiaowang1 it depends what do you count as a track. I meant 120+ instrument tracks. It's not a problem if it is all just a layering thing in just the right amount. But people tend to layer a lot of unnecessary things.
so troll. i had to go back and listen to the track and it is not this simple at all, there are lots of overdubs, transitions and fills and more layers to the various parts. this is the equivalent of isolating the guitar chords for a song and ignoring all of the production tweaking it
it's not much more complex at all, there's one riser and a like two more drum roll fx and a clap which sounds like a real clap, so I think apart from that the rest was just recorded in the booth
lol nobodies talking down on people who use more then 4 tracks so I dunno why you made the crotchety old man reference, you can show different ways of doing things without directly bashing the other things…
Kinda puts it in perspective for me. All the shit we labor over as producers to make stuff sound polished doesn’t matter to the average ear until it’s pointed out. I have to learn not to get so hung up on so many little “imperfections” and just create.
Lmao see this is what the majority of musicians fail to understand time and time again…. My ah ha moment was “we will rock you”…. Less is almost always more in music and it never needed to be this complex thing. All you need is 1 track to really make a hit… technically you don’t even need instruments other than a voice to make a hit….
The confidence to not over-engineer your production is huge.
you guys are actual fuckin legends for this
@@seangorman886 🤘🏽🤘🏽
This really proves that simplicity is usually the best approach to create a fucking classic.
“perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away”
Or it proves connections in the industry are the most important factor in creating a hit
@@jchainz9015gotta let the diddler (pdiddy) get to you
Yeah this is nonsense
Unless you are trying to make art, then this kind of simplicity is not it
The bass and the clap sounds great!
The secret is that bass sound. Wow
Yea the trick is to have good sounds.

when you go for parallel comp settings but in serial 😂

The bass WAS the melody here lol
REASON USERS STAND UP ‼️
Simple is key EVERY TIME. How many times have we seen producers break down their sessions and see just how deceptively simple it is?
Depends on what you're trying to achieve. Depends on the genre. If you want "hits" or music to be easily digested then yes simple is good
@@wm1573 I'd rather listen to this song over an over-thought Jacob Collier song or something.

The lesson is really the importance of sound selection and the mix
Yup, you just need one hook really, everything else is just flavor
One of the best beats
Simple yet perfect
Hits so fkn hard on the dance floor too
Less is more in production a lot of the time. It took me forever to really understand and embrace this.
It is true but at the same time this wouldn't work without the vocal
@@Emtrax. yes but this is part of why less is more too. You need to leave room for the artist to do their thing.

The verse beat is so nice
It’s crazy because when I was younger I’d get hype to this but listening back to pop in this time period it feels very empty.
Making music never about quantity its always about quality
I love reason so much

Every beat doesn't need a lot of sounds and fx
I had no clue this was done in Reason lol
wait KSHMR made the Like A G6 beat?!
Shout out Ian

Doesn’t look like Ableton?
Btw, it must be an honor to have a podcast with him.

This song will definitely be remembered in years to come . Just meaningless shit
Based on the fact that the 808s eats the low but this one specifically the high aswell, makes anything additional in the high end too much
If it doesn’t sound good with 4-5 instruments you don’t have it. Simple is always better.
Another example of this is alors dance stromea .. so simple
Great question!
