I was there! i have a number of still photographs of that day. I was fairly close to the stage. It's neat to see this video its almost like my still photos coming back to life.
What the hell went wrong with my life that when they were doing this, I was busy listening to bloody van halen or richard marx or whatever. Now I discover Stereolab and Grandaddy when they're all done... the universe be a harsh mistress.
One of my fave Stereolab tunes - can't believe they picked it to play live in Central Park - really subliminal and brilliant. And always nice to see Mary again, especially smiling.
Everything Stereolab reminds me of this year 1995, was a great year for me with great music, was a student that year and was fortunate to see them several times. Thanks for posting & greetings to all Stereolab fans
Thank you for sharing this treasure. To see the band personnel in their mid-to-late 20s, in their prime and on-stage is wonderful. I feel like Stereolab was a musical and intellectual gift to music listeners and lovers with compositions and lyrics which continue to hold their own through contemporary times.
It's interesting how this show is not listed on the groop's official web site, but it obviously happened, and this is obviously the 1995 lineup. They played in Chicago a week before this, They were in Chicago that summer recording Emperor Tomato Ketchup.
This is the only live version of this song that I know of other than I think the BBC sessions. I think Lab is kind of like The Smiths where they have so many good songs it's hard to say this is one of their best but I would put this in the upper echelon of Lab songs; of course there are probably 25 other songs in this category.
This song is the one Stereolab tried recording and producing with both Paul Tipler in London and John McEntire in Chicago. Yet neither went to Emperor Tomato Ketchup. Instead the Chicago version was relegated to being used a b-side and the London version was given to an All Tomorrows Parties comp.
They were good to see live. The best tour I saw was the Soundust tour. Overall I saw them on Emperor Tomato Ketchup, Cobra, Soundust, and Chemical Chords tour. I think they will regroup at some point, but they needed some time away from each other.
I was fortunate to see them (just once) in the Student Union Hall on my Uni campus during my Senior Year, whilst they were on tour promoting the just-released Emperor Tomato Ketchup. Getting there super early, I was literally just a couple feet away from Lætitia and Mary for the entire gig 😍💞. The admission was next to nothing, yet I spent many times more at the merch table. Perhaps the best birthday present I ever gave to myself, even if it was a week or so early.
1:36 pervie camera work up Mary's hot legs checking her out that I wholeheartedly approve. I miss Mary so much you guys have no idea. Thanks goodness the rest of the band continues her work Never give up Stereolab!
Will somebody PLEASE post the version off of Oscilations From the Anti Sun!! That's the best version I've ever heard, and i don't know how to post stuff. THANK YOU!!
If it wasn't for that great set of legs , they would be classified as the most un-epic stage performers ... My fav alternative band though - oh yeah, also Combustible Edison.
If I had a time machine I wouldn't kill Hitler or save the Titanic, I'd go see Stereolab. Oh, to be whoever Mary is smiling at...
if you had a time machine you could do all..................................................
Great excellent Band
We All Miss Mary!

My favourite ever band and one of the most innovative bands of all time. Without parallel.
Jep…. 😏✌️

Story of my life.
Yep. A good friend turned me on to the Lab around '99, but I didn't really think to go looking for a show at that point in my life. Alas...
They're all commies anyway. Ypu didn't miss much, save a lot of confusion!
Kurt Slotkowski your gay
@@KurtSlotkowski-hj8jd perhaps more Marxist than Commie, but one can still appreciate the groove, and deemphasize the message if they so choose.

Was there and the day is forever burned into my memory !
This was just a year after I saw them live in Gainesville Fla. Wish someone would have videotaped that show.
Wow! I was there. Talked to them backstage. Also saw them the night before at Maxwell's. Thanks for posting this video. They are amazing!
One of the greatest bands of all times and I have never been to their concerts... You are lucky you could assist and film this in the 1990s.

The last song I listened to before going to school on the morning of September 11th 2001 was ping pong.
Looking back it was damn appropriate.

Stereolab is back! They will be doing concerts this summer and fall.

The best krautrock band ever not to come from Germany. Sad never to have seen them.
Hopefully they tour again.

There's also a version of this song called "Old Lungs" off of a mix called All Tomorrow's Parties 1.1. I'll try to put them up when I can.
Mary is so awesome and so beautiful. Nice camerawork zooming in on her long legs :)
