    Im an American and was in the grandstand when Cork hosted Waterford when I visited Ireland several years ago. I was really taken by the sport and so impressed by the skills and athleticism of the players. Hurling is a terrific sport and I’ll try to catch another match when I return. 👍

      It's a colosseum atmosphere. If your county is playing it's high stress, great day out for a neutral!

    If this was a demonstration sport at the Summer Olympics, it would become immensely popular. This is a sport that Americans would love.

      It's possible to play it in the USA, there are Gaelic Athletic Associations operating in many Americans cities 👍

    😮 Wow. What a game. Well done indeed, Limerick, on a hat-trick of Liam McCarthy Cups. Somewhere up there, Terry Wogan will have a smile as wide as the Shannon

      If you told me as I dragged myself off the terrace in '96 we wouldn't win an all Ireland until 22 years later i wouldn't have believed it. No more than i would have believed the team Limerick have now!

    I bet Brian Cody wishes he had DJ, Shefflin, JJ and Eddie Brennan etc to take on these Limerick guys. This version of Kilkenny put it up to them. Peak Kilkenny v Limerick would have been a crazy match. Who would win?

      Limerick for the way they play. Their style would cause that great KK team all sorts of problems

    How would a baseball player do in this sport? Is there a crossover of transferable skill between batting and hurling? Obviously the shapes are different, and you are running while you strike.
    Also, wow, these are athletes!

    • @CraicOfTheAsh
      @CraicOfTheAsh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some aspects cross over quite nicely. Baseball's hand eye co-ordination and wrist strength would be useful. Being a good catcher of the ball is an advantage too. The levels of fitness required are world's apart though. Top level hurlers are also capable of things that only come with years of practice and naturally skill. Striking the ball accurately moving at full speed or weighting a stick pass perfectly when the pressure is on. Plenty for a baseball player to put their talents towards in this sport 👍

      @@CraicOfTheAsh Thanks for your reply! After giving it some thought, I don’t think today’s American baseball players could handle the rigor and physical contact required in hurling. Aside from plays at bases and home plate, there’s almost no physical contact. Again, thanks for your reply!

      If he's a switch hitter who doesn't mind fielding high balls without a glove. They did a show where they sent a hurler(Jackie Tyrrell) to spring training & a retired catcher went to Ireland to play a little hurling. The did it with several sports and athletes. The name of the show escapes me atm but it's entertaining. The look on the Americans faces when the hurler was in the outfield and tossed his glove to the ground and started catching barehanded was pure class!

      How so friend?

    • @AnBru
      @AnBru 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@malcolmhull6584 here's one example, the hook is a foul. Also, you can't shoulder an opponent while you're in possession. You can only take 4 steps with the ball, but that rule has been completely unenforceable due to the lack of usable tackling rules. The game is not designed well, and with teams being more physical and competitive than ever now, the flaws in the game are being exposed more than ever. The game will never go international because it can't be played in line with its own flawed rules, I don't believe other countries could understand or tolerate the game in that state. How could it ever be seriously explained to, say, an Olympic committee, with rules like that? It's only played in a handful of counties even in our own country.
