      bipin p viswanath I was at that game and also went to the replay, and feel very honoured to be able to say "I was at that game"
      Hurling is a native sport to Ireland, but through our many emigrants around the world, there are now clubs set up around the World in many towns and cities and the game is growing in popularity. But the heart of this game still remains in counties like Kilkenny, Tipp, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Clare and others, it's a 100% amateur game, many of these players have full-time jobs or are students, have to train to professional levels, nutrition and diet like a professional, commitment like Professional Sports-person, but are unpaid, and do this for the honour of their county jersey and their county supporters. It is an astonishing game, and a great source of Pride for the country.

    This is my first time to watch a hurling game and I found that:
    So exciting is it
    All the players are so tough and skillful
    1 point for a goal over the crossbar
    3 points for a goal under the crossbar
    So fucking exciting is it
    Cheers to this great sport from Japan

The thing that absolutely amazes me is that all these athletes are AMATEURS! The training they need to go through to get to this level is brutal. All props to them. ChristmasTrax I love hurling,but i'm from sligo which is not a hotbed of hurling.They are about 26 gaelic football clubs and the same for soccer and they are only 5 hurling clubs.Thats the same in ulster excluding antrim the rest of connacht excluding galway and many parts of leinster.Generally its popular in a quarter of the country.Saying that the interest and passion is more intense ,because nearly all the counties border tipperary.Its a very traditional game and the stick is made from wood from the ash tree no wood is suitable.Only 10% of ash is suitable as well as that its a very picky tree and will only grow on good land.Thats why where hurling is popular it is also usually prime agricultural land,the exception ,being the glens of antrim.However meath and kildare has good land yet gaelic football is the main sport so its difficult to know whats going on.

      It wasn't really invented it evolved over hundreds or even thousands of years in ireland.The rules are mostly the same since it was standardised in 1884 ,but the stick is completely different.Originally the game was played mostly on the ground ,but now it has elvolved towards more aireal play and the head of the stick has become broader to allow for aereal play and to pick the ball of the ground in to the hand.

    • @TomEbbsjamasteroids

      so it was basically the first play of hockey and then it became a seriously hard sport...my old man used to play it down at croke park and gave up playing it professionally for playing rugby for St.Mary's rugby club like most of the rugby players in my family and then went to play for london irish. They still have those metal bands round the clubs...they used to rip the skin of my fingers, really annoying. Anyways Joseph Boland I heard that this year the GAA NHL were planning on making it a full on professional sport.... took a while seeing as it was founded in 1884

    • @stoney7145
      @stoney7145 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joao Martins Thats only one game in the year.Hurling only packs this 80000 capacity stadium once in the year.They do train every day,but they have no time to recover since they are working full time.It is still a business every else makes money out of it except the players.Kilkenny won this championship after only playing 6 games in front of good crowds and probably could go full time professional,but they would be only joined by about 4 other teams which wouldn't be much of a league.You must remember we are only a nation of 4 and half million and hurling is mostly played in only a quarter of it.Soccer and rugby our other major sports and they don't have a domestic professional league either.They are 4 rugby teams ,but they play in an international league.Hurling and gaelic football are only played at an elite level in ireland so a pro international league is not possible.

    For all the complaining that was done about Cathal Barrett making the most of Richie Hogan's contact with his head in 2019, apart from letting out a little shout, he made very little fuss about being wrapped on the head by Aidan Fogarty at 1:28:45. That would have seen Taggy sent off, just like Patrick Horgan was in the Munster final the year before that. Maybe he learned to not let people get away with that...

    i don't like the fact you can just carry the ball in your hands. this is what makes soccer and hockey superior to me, the fact control of the puck or the ball is always a fight, it brings another dimension to the game, 1 on 1 duals, feints etc.

      yeah, i got that rule like the basketball, but i find it looks also like a lack of style in basketball. And about shinty, to me it looks like hockey on grass with children sized sticks. Maybe it could be nice with decent sized sticks. but yeah at the end, if you like it, it's cool.

    • @Diesel415
      @Diesel415 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Hide and Tweak Hey if you like 'soccer' and hockey then that's cool. I prefer more fast paced sports played by athletes possessing a myriad of skills not hindered by all sorts of rules that slow down the sport to the level of excitement of a grammer school kickball game.

    • @stoney7145
      @stoney7145 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Hide and Tweak In the old days the game had more first touch striking and the ground play,but the rules were mostly the same.Because handling was allowed the game became more possession based and the sticks became shorter and Broader.

    Hurling shows your character and good breeding. long live Sin Fein...
    And those who realize the old ways are traditional. Like the trust you have by respecting THE FORTS will keep you close to the God who created all beings. Our country lost a lot by destruction of indigenous people's lives and culture. The English tried to impose things foreign which do not work well because they don't travel well. ONE DAY IF AMERICA COMES REALLY CLOSE TO GOD we could be as great a country as Eire... with much love from the colonies... Leon

      Quite often it can be the colours of their hometown club. Players play for a club aswell as their county. County hurling would be the pinnacle of the sport, club hurling would have more of a community feel
