Thanks for the honest review. I'm considering getting a new scoot, but don't want to drop 6k on my first new one. I've driven a small frame Vespa before and liked it, but I'm not convinced their prices are worth the name recognition.
Love my Royal Alloy. Review was pretty spot on. Yes, it has a carb but mine cranks perfect every time. Cold or hot. I'm 6' tall and I don't feel too cramped. Once i got used to the riding position, its very comfortable. The only downside is the power. its not weak but its top speed could be a little better. The trade off is you get great stability at the cost of top speed. Its a heavy bike. About 265 lbs dry weight. Vespa ET4 was about 36 lbs lighter I believe. But, as Robot stated, you're paying $2000 less than the comparable metal Vespa. I hope it finds its market. If the 150 succeeds, the LC 200 or 300 may show up in the states.
Made by SYM(SanYang Motors) of Taiwan with solid reliability. SYM has been in bike making since 1960 and being No. 2 maker in Taiwan with market size of 20 million scooters. SYM took a conservative approach of adopting old-school carburettor in this new scooter for owner to DIY. I own 2 carburettor scooters were flooded in the typhoon, both were revived by changing spark plug only while washing the mud off the engine shells and blow dry. The bike shopkeeper told me that it would cost me a fortune should they be fuel injection ones with all those electronic parts and sonsors.

I love my 2018 Vespa GTS 300 sport, but there is always room for a good brand to bring more folks into the scootering fraternity that may not be able to pay the Vespa price. Great review!
See plenty of the Royal Alloys about in NE England as well as the Scomadi products. I never had a close look at either yet. Question though please Robot - How does the build quality of the Royal Alloy compare to Vespa?
The engine is made in Taiwan, not China. SYM makes very good products (and used to produce many of Honda's scooters), but this is an older generation SYM engine. Vespa (and other Piaggio products) have previously made scooters in China although, I believe, they're all Italian made at present.
The good thing about carburettor scooter is that they are more water-resistant. My carburettor scooter was soaked in the local flood knee high. I took it to bike shop for repairing. The shopkeeper flushed mud off my engine shell, then changed a new spark plug and started the scooter with a car battery. After several trials and succeeded. Some dirty water was spit out of the muffler. The shopkeeper run the engine till idle stabilized and gave it to me. I was charged for the price of new spark plug only. The bike shopkeeper told me that it would cost me a fortune to replace so many electronic sensors and components should it be a fuel-injection scooter.
WE have a lot of these RA's in the UK now, a bit controversial because of the way the company formed after legal battles with Frank Sandersons Scomadi company who were the innovators of the original Lambretta series III auto , I have to say though I think that RA have taken the scooter to a different level with build quality & reliability & they seem to listen to the customer in fact after many people in the UK asked for a scooter based along the lines of the Lambretta series II they have come up with the goods in the TG 300 powered by the Piaggio derived 300 engine & it does look good but unfortunately the frame geometry seems to be the same as the GT & as you point out it makes for uncomfortable riding position if you have even a normal (regular) leg length & the price for the TG 300 is over £5,000 otr making it a very pricey scooter. As always thanks for the review ride safe & KOKO.
Good review as always! Fyi, if I am not mistaken, the Euro front turn signals are pre-wired behind glove box with a plug-&-play system so swithing from the US spec ones to the shield ones is a 5' job. Also, the new 300s already vailable in Europe are fuel injected, perhaps they will come to the USA for the 2021 model year. Cheers!
I had a friend lent me a Honda Wave clone from SYM after my real Wave got stolen. But when I went to change it's oil I was surprised to discover that it was running dry all those times. Pretty sure they're now as reliable as Hondas lmao
How do you feel about running alcohol added fuel in scooters in general and are some that should never be run on ethanol? are there upgrades to allow ethanol fuel on older bikes?
All the Royal Alloy scooters in the UK are fuel injected. So, basically, in the US we're getting a cheaper engine... a GY6. Kind of a put-off. Also, has zero underseat storage... like a Lambretta. And where do you hook your helmet (I guess you could lock it to the back rack). Love the looks but I have real issues about buying a carbed scooter.
Great review. Frustrating that at six-two, I’ve never been able to get comfortable on a Genuine product. Given the size, I hoped for 150 Vespa comfort.
Great balanced review as ever. I seriously considered buying the Royal Alloy 300 and went to try one. I had Lambretta's and Vespa's back in the 1970's but my fond memories are of Lambretta's really. In Britain back in those days they were still part of the MOD scene and a way of life as the saying goes, a fashion accessory. It was the demand in Britain for bigger engined scooters that spurred Lambretta on to make scooters like the SX and GP 200. I had the latter but have always felt the SX 200 was the epitomy of the scooter scene back then. Back to the present, instead of the Royal Alloy I replaced my GTS with another GTS touring last July. I love it but its not perfect, my biggest pet hate is the standard exhaust. I carry a passenger at weekends and find it strange that I have to use the peg extenders to keep the passengers feet away from mine. I would agree about scooters being a better choice for commuting or just going out at the weekend. I have had big bikes but apart from looking like they have being put together from a box of spare parts now unless you are doing starship millage they make no sense at all to me. Maybe some people need their alpha male ego's massaging? Keep up the great videos, if you were a bit nearer to the UK I would have paid a visit by now, cheers!

I've had a Sym Wolf for 15 years. The motor and drivetrain are bulletproof. They once made motorcycles for Honda. They produce Honda clones and Taiwan is a world class manufacturer with excellent quality control. Knowing this thing is powered by Sym, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I bet they will even give you less mechanical problems than a Vespa. No knock against Vespa, but Sym is right on par with the big 4 Japanese manufacturers.
Carburetors left to lawn mowers? Take a look at Cub Cadet, fuel injection is creeping in, with their snowblowers also. Scooters are also good for cross-country (never tried it myself), I remember stories of Honda Helix's, and even Vespas that did world tours!

I’ve been considering buying one of these for the past few years and keep putting it off. I’ve not test ridden one yet. But I’m a 5’4.5” female and about 125lbs and I worry that this scoot will be too tall, too heavy and too wide for me. I have short legs and think it would be unsafe, which is a complete bummer since I’ve been obsessing about having one of these for a while. Can anyone advise on this? Any petite ladies or guys who has one out there?
I owned one for two years and highly recommend replacing the seat it comes with and getting one of the racing seats. They're lower and, more importantly, narrower than the 'king and queen' seat. The one thing I will say with this scooter is that it's not especially well balanced... it's unusually heavy in the back. I didn't have any issues riding curves or most roads but this scooter slides like crazy on any kind of vaguely slippery surface in a way other scooters I've owned do not. This was even after replacing the mediocre tires it comes with with quality Pirelli Angels. I've since sold my GT 150 and really miss how it looked, how great it is customized, etc., but from a safety standpoint... I feel relief.
50c.c. usually needs high rev to keep the speed. In Taiwan, we change oil every 1000 kilometer. Scooter of one cylinder engine could use "thicker" oil to dissipated the heat, so 5W, 10W or 15W are OK.
You won't regret! This Lambretta-like scooter made by SYM(SanYang Motors) of Taiwan looks old school with carburettor but won't fail you with solid quality. In fact, the scooters of new generation with electronic designs are prone to unpredictable breakdown on the road due to rain shower, humidity, precipitation, design bugs.
Looks kind of cool on video ? I’m usually okay with certain Clones although I did buy a Chinese made a scooter from a neighbor in Florida that turned out to be pure junk that model was sold at Advance Auto Parts for several years as a rule on Motorcycles I prefer Genuine Honda products although these being under Genuine might be okay BTW my 1964 Honda Motorcycle is nice because I can easily find parts and knowledgeable repair shops etc
They’ve got the looks bang on but when are they going to make one that can challenge some of the highly tuned original two stroke lambrettas out there because trust me they’d make this 150 look stupid and until they do they’ll never get enough converts.
Robcatist - RA are stuck with 4t as are all manufacturers. To sell a scoot with tuned 2t levels of power the scooter would be £10k+ and it will still be automatic. Never gonna happen.
This is an interesting scooter, and the price is reasonable. The complete lack of under seat storage might be a deal breaker for me, since the thing is bulky enough that I'm sure some space could have been designed into it. Yes, you can always mount a top box, but to me the main purpose of buying a vintage looking scooter would be ruined with a big top box. I'm a retired mechanic so the carburetor would be OK for me, but people who want something that just runs flawlessly all the time would be better off with injection. Apparently all the European Royal Alloys have injection? Actually, aside from the carb, this American GT150 isn't exactly the European GT150 but a combination of features from the GT and GP versions. I guess Genuine specified what they thought would sell best in North America.
I love Scooter's my first motorcycle was a 1978 Yamaha GT 80 in 1980 I was 12 years old my first scooter was a 1984 Honda Aero I was the among the first few to have the Ninja 900 or ZX-9 back in 1987 it was the fastest production motorcycle in the world at the time then I got the ZX-10 afterwards I been a motorcycle mechanic all my life from 50cc 2 Strokes to the Mighty 1300+cc Hayabusas nevertheless no bike is smooth as a quality scooter when you have one it's like riding a Magic Carpet😇

So, you didn't want to say the name Lambretta 20 thousand times so you replaced it (economy of speech ?) with "the l branded scooter" Now: Lambretta = 3 syllables The L branded scooter =6 syllables... Go figure...
Let's see, Vespa Motorsport is an official Piaggio dealer or a multi-brand store? If you are an official Piaggio dealer, in my opinion you should not advertise other competing brands. Even so, the new scooters based on the aesthetics and design of the original 2-stroke Lambrettas do not have enough market to remain a stable brand over time. The origin of this trend started in the late 90's and early 2000's when some enthusiastic UK scooterists started modifying original Lambrettas using the chassis and adding Gilera scooter automatic motors, among others. It is well known that in the UK the original Lambrettas are a religion among the scooter culture and have a status of authenticity etc. etc. Nowadays anyone can choose the scooter that suits them best, whether for price, performance or aesthetics. There are many good established brands such as Honda or Yamaha and others not so much as Kymco or Sym. But if we talk about reliability, development, solvency, experience, design and technology like Piaggio, there is none. The "Lambretta" brand is on the market again, but as with Royal Alloy and Scomadi, they are fragile options with little business solvency and doubtful continuity over time. I personally respect scooterist who use original 2-stroke Lambrettas, although I prefer a Vespa a thousand times. God bless you all. Greetings from Barcelona. th-cam.com/video/gJzYTXkoPGs/w-d-xo.html

In Taiwan, we change oil every 1000 kilometer. Scooter of one cylinder engine could use "thicker" oil to dissipated the heat, so 5W, 10W or 15W are OK.
How reliable will this be?
Hi, I Need a support. What’s different piaggio fly 100 model 2007 and 2015
Difference is, the 2007 models is 8 years older...
@@nikos-giorgos Tecnical differents.. ?
Guys, I think this one might be the one for me. Tell t.c I'll be seeing him.
You guys need the Royal Alloy 300 Why Not It Has The Same Piaggio Hpe 278cc Vespa Motor Now🤔
Thanks! Was thinking about getting one of these. Appreciate your thoughts on it.
Glad it was helpful!
SYM has been in bike making since 1960 with 2nd place in market share of 20 million scooters in Taiwan.
Will be ordering me one. Need to find me a place here in north carolina
Then why did you put it in a Vespa showroom? To make a quick buck?
RA for life!!!
Would you say the carburetor is a deal breaker?
yes
The carburettor is "made in Japan"!
They already have you can get one with the 300cc engine from the Vespa GTS
Cool scooter. No FI is a deal breaker for me.
That thing is beautiful though
I was hoping to see a test ride! It would be cool!
Coming soon!
Wasn't the classic Lambretta a British bike?
The New York Police Department used a Serveta model in the 70's.

What color is this model?
"Ocean Blue"
Great review 👍🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
Peace from scooterist Indonesia. Nice review brader.
Waiting on the Royal Alloy Gp-300 Huntington Beach California will have them in a few months and so will Genuine Scooter Company- USA the Royal Alloy GP-300 has the GTS Piaggio 278cc engine so I get the best of both worlds a New 2021 Lambretta SX-300 digital dash liquid cooled mix with a Vespa 😁🤓
How is saying L branded easier to say than Lambretta?
Not easier, just don't want to keep saying Lambretta, because it's not a Lambretta (even though we know that's what everyone is thinking).
Another minus will be the lack of under seat compartment.
It has a two-year, unlimited mile warranty.
Thanks for sharing but we definitely not looking for this SYM garbage in Los Angeles but we definitely looking forward to the New Royal Alloy Gp-300s with the Piggio pre HPE 278cc motor in which PM tuning already have a 26WRHP!!! Motor kit for the Royal Alloy 300s the RA-300s has the tried and GP race tested twin fork front end and 50 pounds lighter than the GTS 300 HPE it has a digital dash as standard it has been redesigned and is basically a lambretta mixed with a Wasp the best of both worlds and finally a 2020 SCOMADI/Lambretta SX liquid cooled 300cc Thumper hurry up and get these new Vespa killer models with Piggio engines 🙉🙈🙊
That et in the background looks mint! Can we have a video on that? Thanks guys another great review
Nice scooter!👍
Cute Little scoot
Good video Robot
Glad you enjoyed it
These are much better with the water cooled motor. Either 125 or 200/300
Nope!
Simpler is better!
This is reason why most scooters with engine size smaller than 250c.c. usually go without water cool.
Horses for courses, anyone who rides for longer than an hour would be better off with WC
Oh and the WC motor in these is far more advanced than the old ac unit
i like the look...
Better looking than Vespa by far.
Gotta point out, "L branded scooter" is actually longer to say than Lambretta.
sir need ur help
It's a nice looking scooter
Very reliable and proved in Taiwan of 20 million scooters.
Well, I *suppose* it's a nice replacement for the Stella (which I liked a lot), but compared to a Prima or Sprint, it's still a case of "you get what you pay for."
?
But with solid reliability.
You don’t seem that enthusiastic robot 😉
reminds me of my fathers scooter.
I'd have rather heard you say 'Lambretta' 20,000 times than "L-branded scooter" even have a dozen times!
We'd soon be hearing from the 'L' purists. In fact, we already are and we only mentioned it one time in the vid! haha!
exactly...
I’d have thought people would have more of a problem with the Genuine Scooters brand... you know, ‘cos they’re not... 😁
I like vespa
hello, i wanna buy the royal alloy GT150 but i dont know were to but one,im hoping you can help me i leave in JERSEY CITY NJ 07305 PLS...MORE POWER TO YOUR CHANNEL
So, you didn't want to say the name Lambretta 20 thousand times so you replaced it (economy of speech ?) with
"the l branded scooter"
Now:
Lambretta = 3 syllables
The L branded scooter =6 syllables...
Go figure...
stop whining.
Please reply me I love this vespa
It's a royal alloy.
Made by SanYang Motors(SYM) of Taiwan with solid reliability.
Robot is such a Vespa guy he can't even say the word "Lambretta"
lol
Wrong way Mr Robot. Time to time, you chosse.
I like simple
NO EFI ? NOPE, I'm out, thank you. ✌
Looks good tho.👌😊👍
Stop saying Lambretta. It is not. It’s ugly AF
Exactly the reason we used the term, L branded scooter, haha!
150 Scooter that`s a copy of the Once was > Lambretta LD150, except this one goes as fast as a 125 "Just" , Come on guys, Put a proper engine in it !! The Enthusiasm that this gets is about what it goes like = Rubbish !! > I am a Scooter Nut since 1966 and I`ve had over the time 104 Scooters !! I know a Lemon when I see one !!
Shame it’s made in 🇨🇳
He said it is made in Taiwan...not Chinese...!
@@garypatrick7817 I looked at one, made in CHINA sticker right below handlebars
Is that the flag from thailand? Or china?
Nope!
It is made by SYM(SanYang Motors) of Taiwan!
The 2nd largest bike maker in Taiwan(aka. Republic of China, Free China) with market size of 20 million scooters in Taiwan.
SYM is not a bike maker of Communist PRC just like Carl Zeiss is not a lens maker of GDR(east Germany).
It's made by Hanway in China
Robot, I'm sorry. But a series three will always look better than a Vespa. What I don't like is it is made in Asia, No after market support, And I would buy a 300. Not into a 150.
You can check the Bangkok Royal Alloy FB pages & U.K. pages for customers views performance, i have been P.R. riding GP 200 for 1 year for Thailand RA factory not a bad scooter 300 cc will be a good tour scooter.
I ride Lambretta & Vespa here in Bangkok also Tl 125 Scom. RA have come up with the goods for the new TG Models based on the S 2 Lambretta great looking new scooter with a good 300 cc Gts Vespa engine 125 cc 150 cc 180 cc 200 cc will be out this year. I enjoy Robots reviews a great channel wishing you all the best from Bangkok ride safe .
I got to 2:58 then hearing the phrase L branded scooter became too much .......
Was called a Lambretta in the 1950s 60s, just a remake!!!
Yes. What is wrong with that?
Eating candy, lip smacks, teeth clicks. OMG
Please eat candy "after" the review please.
Genuine Scooters are better. SYM makes good stuff too.
Carburettor one with electronic components means less fuss.
SanYang Motors(SYM) is No. 2 scooter maker in Taiwan with market size of 20 million scooters. So, can't go wrong.
Way too expensive for a Chinese scooter.
It’s all Sym Fiddle running gear. They are good bikes.
@@davespooney8472 Its a Hanway bike, not a Sym.
