The Gohan goes to High School/Great Saiyaman arc is my guilty pleasure. No one liked it, but maybe it was just the age I saw it. I really liked how awkward he was, and I really liked the chemestry behind Videl and Gohan. Not to mention, it was an interesting look into what life could have been like if the Z fighters had been superheros, and all the identity protection nonsense. And after watching Dragon Ball before Z, and watching Goku AND Gohan grow up, its just such a nice reminder of the time we kind of forgot about exists in this world. We don't see enough of them interacting with the world around them. And when we do, it's hardly more than background for the main characters. Scenes like the driving test and Goku being really uncomfortable in normal clothes just make me smile. Goku and Gohan and all the other Saiyans are terrible at being normal, and they always will be. Its in their nature, even when not fighting.
i agree with this so much. this arc was super fun bc it showed how as badass as saiyans are when fighting, them living domestic lives that are against their nature is interesting to watch. i loved seeing gohan just trying his best

@@vincentawauh6160 it's because the fan base didn't like how they nerfed Gohan. Gohan just wanted live a normal life for once since most of his childhood was pretty traumatic. (Being kidnapped by Raditz, forced to train and fight, seeing his friends and others die). It's reasonable why Gohan stopped fighting because he just wants to live a normal life as a human being. It's a blessing and a curse for him to be 50% saiyan and human. He just doesn't want to have to live like a saiyan. His whole identity back then was as a Saiyan warrior when he was a "badass". Gohan has been through huge expectations from the fan base and is trying to be turned into something he doesn't want to be.
@@fidel7428 honestly Gohan being a fun goofy superhero and being comfortable as one should've been the character trait for this season. He despises fighting but having him save people as Saiyaman and fight evil would be a great way to have him move on from his past.

It's not stupid. Gohan's outfit is retarded and goten was too much of a kid to realize but now he's not. Instead of picking apart what goten does/doesn't like just accept that he doesn't.
Hell it was alot more shocking initially when goten said he DID like it and we all knew it was because he was not only a little kid but gohan's little brother. Now he's grown to the point where he see's the ridiculousness of the outfit and it's good development since we all knew this would eventually happen
They also didn't forget they've acknowledged twice already in db super that goten USED to like it. They mention that in the same instances that goten said he didnt like it anymore so they never forgot.

To be fair...the helmet is the only cool thing about the costume...and he traded it in for sunglasses and a scarf wraped around his head, just so his oponent has something to pull on besides his cape
That was just for the tournament rules though as no helmets were allowed or something of that nature. He uses the helmet in all other instances of being the Great Sayiaman though.

Make the Helmet red and turn it into a slim high tech visor so that it doesn't get blown off whenever he goes Supersaiyan and he might have had a decent look with this. To be honest I wish they'd at least given him his own unique clothes color scheme based off this with Green being his dominant color combined with another color (purple might be nice) and some white and black accents thrown in for good measure.

To me, the outfit is fine... It's how Gohan talks, moves, poses, and everything about how he carries himself while wearing it that makes it goofy. To be honest, if Gohan commanded respect while wearing it, the suit actually could be seen as a symbol of something. But as it is, it's a bit too obvious that the suit means absolutely nothing.

The fact that Gohan brought this much energy to the arc and still people believe he didn’t have what it takes to be a main shonen protagonist bugs me to this day. It’s too late now, but back then...Jesus...

The fact that Gohan started as a cry baby without any training and surpassed his father Goku who trained his entire life pushing his limits, testing his strength and going beyond his potential is ridiculous. That's the first reason why Goku fans didn't want Gohan to be the main protagonist. He has no intention of getting stronger or fighting strong opponents he only trained with piccolo and his father to help them defeat Vegeta and cell unlike Goku who not only loves to fight strong opponents but also does his best to save the world from time to time. Gohan is a book worn in reality it may be a good thing but in dragon ball universe being a saiyan it is the worst possible thing you could think of him. Goku doesn't have any interest in anything at all except fighting. Now tell me who is better to be the main protagonist. People don't want Gohan to be the main protagonist because not only they love Goku but also he doesn't fit to be the main protagonist of dragon ball.
Stormy Cloud the power of being able to write creatively means that you have the power to do anything if you’re creative enough. The excuse that Gohan doesn’t FIT as the main character of Dragon Ball to me is laughable and really just loyalist fans lazy way of saying:”I can’t imagine dragon ball going another way because this is all I know from what Toriyama really wrote for us so why would it be any different unless he wrote it the way he does.”
But the truth of the matter is, let’s say Gohan didn’t do any of the things you mentioned,
Let’s say the Dragon Ball Z story was told differently,
Gohan never grew out of that nervous wreck of a child that he was earlier.
Could you imagine someone saying:”Man, one day, I would really like it if Gohan, son of Goku, actually killed a villain himself.”
The truth is, no, you wouldn’t. Because if Toriyama hadn’t taken that extra story telling step of MOLDING Gohan into what he needed to be to even fight Cell, no one could’ve imagined that he had the ABILITY to fight Cell.
It would be unbelievable to fans that Gohan was a character capable of having the power to kill Cell, because they would have no evidence to support that he could.
Because his character growth to that point WOULD NOT HAVE EXISTED.
So when people say:”No, Gohan couldn’t have been the main character, because Toriyama wrote him to ACT a certain way.”
Doesn’t mean, with another more capable writer the story of Goku to Gohan wouldn’t make sense.
It just means as Toriyama was most likely TOO ATTACHED TO GOKU, so coming back to Dragon Ball after a while to write the story from Gohan’s perspective was too challenging for him, because for years he had written Dragon Ball from the perspective of one character.
Honestly, with Gohan’s abilities, he could still be both a scholar AND a martial artist. With one extra arc, he could be taught how to be the person the earth needs and how to be the person he WANTS to be.
It would just take a writer whose a little more creative in that respect to pull it off.
Stormy Cloud also Toriyama wasn’t influenced by fan response. He says in interviews that it was his decisions if he so chose to, he could’ve just made it work. And there was no indication from any forums IM aware of in Japan that Gohan being the main character was ever a problem.

Gohan went from a brutal and determined fighter, meant to surpass his father and take over as the protagonist, to a dork that occasionally gets powerups to compete because of the nostalgia people still have for him. All because Goku was more popular in the polls.
Some advice to all aspiring authors, do not let your vision be steered by popularity polls like that. Sure, feedback is important. But a character being the most popular does NOT mean that character is the future of the series. In demon slayer, the MC is never the number 1 in the polls. Does that mean he shouldn't be built upon and should be replaced as the MC?
Of course not.
I like where his character went... somewhat. He's living the peaceful life that he's always wanted. Completely opposite from Future Gohan whose life was just a compilation of his suffering.

Honestly, he'd look so badass wearing Piccolo's colors. I hated that they gave him Goku's orange gi in the Tournament of Power.
No offense, but adult Gohan with full Piccolo regalia would just be incredible. Hell, give him an orange variant if you want to honor his father, but the style should be all Piccolo.

To everyone complaining about Gohan, he lost his father and uncle at age 5, was physically and mentally abused by a green alien for a year, he got his ass handed to him age 6 by a huge bald muscle man and the prince of all Saiyans, age 7 he was tortured by an intergalactic overlord, age 11, lost his father AGAIN not forgetting he was brow beat to death by his mother since age 3 and having witnessed unimaginable amounts of carnage and death before his 12th birthday I'm surprised he's even able to function as a member of society.
This reminds me how in the videogame, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the revived Ginyu Force (sans Ginyu himself, as he is a frog) show interest in "Kid Gohan" joining their team to fill in for Ginyu.
They tell him to "work on his poses" during tryouts.
This sure does feel like the end result of that.
