I`ve watched all seven episodes and this is the best docu drama i have seen in ages.Well produced, well acted and portrays the people involved through those horrific crimes as human beings.
I grew up an army kid in Germany in the 70s and remember seeing the headlines in British newspapers my parents got about the ripper. I was terrified my dad would be posted to England because of him. I had nightmares. You are so strong and your motivational speeches help so many, your mum and sister would be so proud of you ❤
I have seen many interviews of you Richard over the years & always admired you as a human being. What a wonderful man you are. I have nothing but heartfelt respect for you. Your mum & sister will be so proud of you. Bless you.
This series is most certainly the BEST TV worth watching in over a decade of British television. 10/10. It does NOT focus on the sensationalism of an animal & butcher who ruthlessly murdered over 15 woman in a 5 year period. But more importantly puts a spotlight on the injustice served by the Yorkshire constabulary who repeatedly fumbled their way through the case due to appallingly bad management & their sexist, misogynist attitudes that clouded their ability to see past alpha ego & politics. 9 times the killer was in their custody & let go. NINE TIMES! The cast is pure brilliance with performances that leave you in compete empathy for the women & survivors of Britains most hideous series killer. The most shocking realisation of this true story is - NOTHING HAS CHANGED in British policing attitudes. NOTHING AT ALL.
My heart goes out to him and his family 😢 How horrible losing his sister in such a way - the long shadow indeed. These crimes cause so much trauma to whole generations.
I have watched every episode of this powerful drama twice in the last week and it's just brilliantly done and I admire Richard for his bravery and strength for being such a decent guy and talking about surviving tragedy, he deserves an obe. Robert Bridgend Wales
I remember Richard coming to my high school and giving a speech. I’ll never forget it, he’s a very inspirational man under awful circumstances. His Mum would be so proud of the man he has become ❤️
There was a mistake in the first episode of The Long Shadow. The policeman was watching Emmerdale Farm in his home at night with his wife when he received a phone call. Emmerdale Farm was always televised in the afternoon from the very beginning up until 1978 when it went to an evening slot. So whoever is doing the historical check ups should get another job.
I think that above anything ,these women were mothers and did what they could to look after their families , no hand outs then . They didn't deserve that from Sutcliffe .
This interview is very sad, obviously but it's also thought-provoking. I will never call Sutcliffe 'the Yorkshire Ripper' again. I have the greatest respect for Richard McCann.
Really enjoyed the drama long shadow. It didn’t glamourise the monster sutcliffe was and it really did show it from the women’s p o v. Well done it v and Richard McCann is an inspiration!!
Richard is an amazingly impressive man, his mum would have been so proud of him, the long shadow was a magnificent drama, at last coming from the point of view of the poor women and their families
Followed this story ever since the Netflix documentary came out them women were strong people who had hit desperate times West Yorkshire police should be ashamed !
Mind numbingly slow editing. Lots of anguished staring into the middle distance. Probably a good three parter in there somewhere. Check out Manhunt with Martin Clunes. Now that's more like it.
It is so distressing thinking about Richard and his siblings waiting for their mum to come home that awful night, and for their loss. There is very good reason to believe that Sutcliffe violently attacked taxi driver John Tomey in 1967 and murdered Fred Craven in 1966. I believe Sutcliffe's reign of terror was even worse than the official position.

Very impressive appearance from Richard (the guest). Well done Sir, I wish you and your family Peace
Richard is a very inspiring person. I’m sure his mother and sister would be proud.
Agreed. Mrs Wilma McCann has done a pretty good job with this guy. What a man!
I have so much admiration for Richard, Wilma was a loving mum who tried her best for her children.. I just want to hug him

Such a shame about his sister who took her life.
I'm so sorry Richard.

No it was Emmerdale farm up until, I think, 1989.
I feel your kind of missing the point of the drama
It dropped the Farm in 1989
