3-Star general hustling the snacks is a parallelism to how the underlying nature of capitalism is to create an imaginary problem (social engineering), exploiting one's goods and services as a profitable solution (price-gouging FREE snacks to appease their hunger), and manufacture the lie that capitalism breeds innovation (taking a pre-existing solution and making it "better", i.e., a solution that only BRANDS itself better through the social conditioning of "righteous" US military personnel/general).🇺🇲
It was indeed a power play, for under capitalism, there's *power where a profit* can be exploited: ¹Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. ²Capitalism doesn't breed innovation; capitalism breeds greed.

Excellent movie that I had low expectations for. Usually star studded cast don’t work, but this one was incredible. The satire made it hard to stomach at times because of what was ultimately at stake, our extinction. The Orlean Administration took some time to get a fix on as being Liberal or Conservative, but since you explained the director did this draw upon several different Presidents, then this made sense. However, it really did seem like Meryl Streep was portraying Kamala Harris.
Spoiler ahead so stop if you haven’t seen it yet,
but I found the greedy spin to stop the comet so the comet could be mined for precious minerals for profit at the risk of humanity to be a great twist, plus actually believable. Great movie, but more importantly foretelling lessons that should be learned.

I honestly thought this movie was genius. The main critical gripe of it being "heavy handed" is just pure ironic gold. That's the point, the movie is this ridiculous but so infuriatingly accurate. The fact that everything in this movie is so resonant with the real world we live in makes it that much more terrifying. The movie is equal parts hilarious, sweet, and harrowing which is a wild experience. Also, with all these huge stars in the cast, I never once lost immersion, they are so well styled and characterized and acted I never got a "that's not your dorky awkward dad, that's Leonardo DiCaprio" feeling, everyone is believable and embodies the characters and it's great.
