Read Paul Gilroy for my Object Study course at Simon Fraser University. What an incredible read. Very thankful my prof had it on the syllabus❤️

Turner owned shares in a slave plantation in America (like a lot of wealthy Britons at the time) so despite this brilliant and touching image, he was hopping on the bandwagon purely for populism. Abolition came once more to the fore after the horrendous murderous Zong massacre and Turner reacted with this painting. Sorry to completely deride his art but it is hypocrisy at it's finest. What a shame. The Tate probably do not like to own that kind of hypocrisy however. This painting used really move me but when I read the man owned shares I was utterly disgusted. Tate wake up. Perhaps sell it and donate it to victims of modern day slavery.

You have not listened to him, you missed the point. Besides he clearly included that already, not what you suggest, black ppl sailing happily, but the beauty and hope for the future. He talked about that but you did not listen. What is blocking you from listening is that you have already decided in advance, what your reaction will be. You want empty relativism and to feel you have a grievance too. This is not about you.
