Michael, that was couch a pleasure to watch ! I watch you all the time! I am a pastelist and and I render pastel portraits of show horses and dogs and I have been doing it for 45 years . I am 87 years old and have little experience in painting in oils, but I am determined to learn your method of painting because I think I would enjoy it so much!

I am amazed every time I watch you paint. Every time I am encouraged to try. You make it look so simple. BUT it is not that simple, and frustration rules the brush.

I like it when you give an actual timeline spent on what you show in the video,
Most artist try to teach using a wall paper glue brush or something close to that size to do most of the painting and then when you need to focus on details drop down to a 1 1/4" brush where as you on the other hand move up to a 1/4" brush if your painting a sky on a large canvas. This why your paintings look closer to photographs than most and I have always steered towards smaller brushes myself without the realism you display. Probably why I love watching you paint is what I'm trying to say! Beautiful job

I'm not into the 'dynamics' of art history nor the styles and schools. I just paint intuitively and learning here and there. So I'm not sure if I should consider your paintings ultra realistic or just the reality itself. I mean.. Those rocks are so real that makes real rocks fake.

I'm the 1,111th like :) - Love your videos Mike, very inspiring and full of lessons. Hope you keep them coming!
I admire the way you paint detail without painting detail. You provide enough input that they viewer sees detail because his or her brain is telling them the detail is there. You paint the suggestion and the viewer fills in the detail. I was trained and started out in acrylics. I noticed that oil gives you the time for ‘detail’ and allows for smoother line. I have struggled with that with acrylic yet have had some success at implying detail that is not there. I get a lot out of watching you paint ... btw, we use similar a similar choice in color only mine is acrylic.
I agree with you 100% Joseph. I too chose acrylics because less expensive, easier to manage and cleanup, l too paint like Mikey background to foreground even on objects & yes l must impart details but he's shown me a very simpler layer technique to do so thus he has my loyalty.
