Just found your channel instant sub. This takes me back a fair few years when school dinners were filling and substantial. Used to be a server in my junior school - two people per table would goto the counter and collect a tray of whatever was for dinner that day then take it back to table and serve it to everyone there - think it was 8 kids per table might have been 10 thinking about it as the trays were quite large. The Corn beef pie with chips n gravy was my favourite followed by chocolate sponge n custard. I never had school dinners (schools back home started at 7am and ended at 1pm The afternoon was for sporting activities. So, unless we were boarders, we went home for lunch. But since coming to UK (and now living here) I am well aware of the bowls of hot custard with some sponge pudding of a sort swimming in it. One pudding we used to have back home was a steamed pudding - it was cooked in a steaming pot with marmalade in the bottom. Once it was cooked, the marmalade became a thick syrup that dripped down the sides.
