Holiday Lemmings: DOS PC Gaming Happiness

- Lemmings by DMA Design was a computer gaming institution in the first half of the 1990s. And of course there were inevitable Christmas spin-offs of the original game. Four of them for DOS, to be exact!

Let me act as UK>US translator: "Boxing Day washing up" means "Doing the dishes on the 26th of December after the big meal the night before".
Thank you !
Waiiiit why wouldn't U.S. people get this? Do all of them have dishwashers or something?
@@rossilfuelartist They don't have boxing day.
@@mrtveenstra No Boxing day!?!!?! Poor b******ds!
Whats boxing day?
Clint, you really are a good actor. I love Christmas Clint.
Also, a moment of silence for Amiga Format Magazine...
Still have a bunch of AF cover disks and CDs, most of the floppies are full of bad sectors and the PCMCIA slot on my A1200 has given up the ghost, so I can't use the CDs.
Spent probably hundreds of hours browsing the CDs when I was a teenager. Always full of all the shareware and PD they could find on the internet. It's where I got the Amiga port of Doom from.
I feel like "Because DOS" is a perfectly acceptable answer to practically any question that comes up on this channel, and this was a super awesome look back at the series, dude. Your Christmas videos are always some of my favorites. Your videos ARE that cup of warm chocolate by the warm CRT PC light.
I always know it's nearly Christmas when the LGR clone is allowed out of the basement for an episode.
"allowed"
"Boxing Day washing up" just means washing the dirty dishes that piled up over Christmas Day. :P
It still sounds dreadful.
@@claudiolluberes111 it is. That's why you ignore the dishes in the sink and play holiday lemmings instead.
🙄
I like developmentally stunted "CHRISTMAS!" LGR ... He seems like fun dude.
ten out of ten... would drink eggnog with.
I once erased my dad's lemmings game by opening the slider and holding it up to the light to see if I could look through it.
I'll die with that secret.
The christmas LGR intro always gets me in the festive mood. Maybe its the midi music, the can of pop or just the whole thing.
Makes me wonder what the normal LGR intro would be with it's own midi intro. Or maybe just the soda pop opening.
His oldest videos used to have the soda opening :)
@@AnkfordPlays Yeah, they were nostalgic. Wish it came back. ^^
Nitpicking: I think he uses Jazz Jackrabbit xmas soundtrack as the intro music, which TECHNICALLY isn't MIDI at all, but uses Epic's proprietary tracker sound system.
@@ArneSchmitz Still freakin awesome!
One thing that hasn't changed in 9 years is your content quality. Even your older things are still really fun to watch.
I always appreciate when creators go back and re-cover videos that newer viewers have likely never seen. Add on the fact that watching particularly old videos can be...something challenging to watch and it makes the updated versions that much more special.
The real question is where did Christmas Clint come from?
A parallel universe with a dimensional portal in the LGR lair that only activates in December
He came from that place where we keep mariah carey and michael buble only to retrieve them for Christmas
*yes.*
He crawled out of the inside of an old Packard Bell 386 and is made of dust bunnies, cigarette smoke, spilled coffee, mouse turds, and glitter. It became sentient after Clint sneezed on it during disassembly, and took his form.
Well when a mommy and daddy love each other very much..
Clint's Christmas clone in TWO videos!! You spoil us oh great one!!
I absolutely love your Christmas Clone appearances. Iiterallaly laughed out loud to myself when I saw him appear with his psychotic Christmas enthusiam. I hope he continues to appear throughout December!
December is my favorite time of year, my birthday is the 23rd and of course we have Christmas, so many warm and great memories. Thank you, Clint, for making these Christmas episodes, I look forward to them so much every year!
"the warm glow of the CRT" that brought a tear to my eye! Good old days!
Aw man, I know this is kinda unrelated, but I saw an IBM PC XT (in decent shape!) at a salvage store today being wrapped up for scrap. Had I gotten there earlier, I would've been able to buy it by the pound. I feel like I've committed a crime by letting that thing go.
I *so* love the beverage consuming "aah", thank you for reinstating it! I hope you will "aah" as a series staple soon again.
I love this game series, and I love the little critters they (horribly) reference!
Lemmings are so kyuute! lol
Ah yes, Rockstar before GTA.
I wonder which one has more explosions.
Likely State of Emergency.
@@residentgrigo4701 Are you talking about the game that just came out in August?
Aw shit here we go again
The were called BMG Interactive (Rockstar Games) and DMA design (Rockstar North) before
I got the Amiga 500+ Cartoon Classics bundle which came with the original Lemmings and Deluxe Paint III. When looking to learn the craft of computer animation using the excellent DPaint tools I had to look no further than Lemmings, so much creativity in so few pixels. I mapped out each frame and recreated into my own set of animations, then went off on a mission to marry it to my other love of the time Judge Dredd. I knocked out tons of Judge Lem (Lem, Lemming, geddit?) animations, creating my own set of reusable lem.brush animation files (The very brush concept that gave the name to Guy Brush Threepwood, Guy.brush).
Beyond being a great set of games I have to thank Lemmings for helping me out creatively too. Thank you, you green haired goof balls.
Probably safe to say that I too played Lemmings on my Amiga more than humanly healthy. :)
Amazingly Rob Mead is still working with us at Future Publishing
You earned a like for the intro alone! The rest of the video was just as enjoyable.
Hyped for this!
God you have stirred up some memories. I grew up with lemmings on the Amiga. It drove me mad ! Great upload. Thanks for the memories.
It’s a happy place, and I’m glad you’re a happy guy Clint! Merry Christmas!
LoL i didnt know there was a holiday game, i thought i played all the old lemmings games!!!
I absolutely love Christmas LGR. You are part of my yearly Christmas traditions at this point.
Oh man! Love the throwback intro! PS I wanna see more Christmas Clint! 🎄❄️
Loving the acting Clint - very entertaining. Merry Christmas!
I had the demo for this on our first pc as a little kid SO much nostalgia
Yes yes yes. Please redux some of your old videos!! You’ve grown so much in a friggen decade, I’d love to hear what you have to say now about lots of these games!
Lemmings nearly as perfect puzzle experience as Tetris, when it comes to its first execution .its really hard to make it any better than it already was, thanks for covering it.
Thank you, LGR much appreciated Christmas Lemmings review.
Happy Holidays too you and your family LGR. Oh say Clint, thank you for covering the IOMEGA clik disc pcmcia drive. I appreciate all your efforts for vintage tech and game's.
Now I know what I can play during this December haha
Keep going, dude. I love your videos.
The Lemmings games used to scare the everloving hell out of me as a kid, it was something about all the death traps with their kill animations and the hellscape aesthetic and how you had to sacrifice some lives to save the rest. I had the xmas version too, and while it itself didn't really have that same effect, it almost felt deceptive to put a jolly skin of paint on something I found so evil and morbid.
They're great games though, I really enjoyed them when I came back as an adult
How is it that I'm not a fan of the holidays but Christmas Clint always makes me laugh? Love your stuff!
I look forward to the Christmas episodes all year:D merry Christmas!
The Christmas Clint is at it again!
This channel IS my happy place, Clint! Merry Christmas and keep up the awesome work
Merry Christmas to you, LGR. :D
I love how all these retrospectives make me appreciate and love whoever was in charge of IT in my elementary school.
JETPACK THO
I never really got into Lemmings or DOS games. Back in the early '80s, I grew up with the Atari 2600, Colecovision, and Color Computer 2. We only had limited games for each. I didn't see anything new until the early 1990s when I got an original GameBoy. The only reason I got that was because I got to play on one my older brother had borrowed. My parents realized I enjoyed playing the thing so they got me my own original GameBoy with a few games. Most Christmases (is that a word?) after that, I only got one game. It was still a real treat since we were poor and I stopped getting anything for my birthday. I played the crap out of those games too. Sometime after 2000, I got a GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS. The games and game systems are too expensive to buy now.
Its that time of the year again, going to watch all LGR videos from the beginning for the third or fourth time...time.
Watching your reviews, is absolutly calming.
anyone else find it ironic the channel is called "lazy game reviews" yet he has the most in depth, interesting content about retroware on youtube
Oh, how I love the Christmas Clint. Always give me a big smile a a somewhat strange warm feeling inside.
i love this channel. I love everything that LGR puts out!.....but you already reviewed thisssss ...NOW i gotta wait until next week for new content. WC luvs LGR
I love Christmas Clint and that insane smile
Merry Christmas! Thanks for the videos and hard work!
Happy merry X mess Sir. Clint,- you are in fact the nicest person on the tube ! :)
"Because DOS"
Now that needs to be on a t-shirt!
OMG the Xmas version of you gets me everytime and I LOVE IT. I have lol'd and related way too hard to it. XD haha
Thank you for naming it differently than the original holiday lemmings episode.
This showed up on my birthday 😁 thank you as always!
Always happy when LGR covers UK stuff, more of it! :D
I love you, LGR!
Another great video. The ending bit made my feeling feel.
I had this exact Lemmings Christmas demo floppy, and that midi christmas and standard Lemmings music really takes me back...
LGR is like a comfy pair of slippers. Thanks for another great video!
I absolutely love your videos. I’ve been playing video games my whole life and your game reviews help me decide which games I want. Sadly I only have an Xbox one not a computer 😭😭😭
Christmas Clint is hilarious.
Thanks for this feel-good video, really needed it today! 😊
The old intro remake. The nostalgia off being 12 and discovering your vids. (I'm now 18)
Haha that last comment you made about playing on your computer in the corner of your living room brought me back to my younger years. I literally did the same thing.
My 4 year old has gotten really hooked on watching me play original Lemmings for some reason. It's a pity they haven't had a core Lemmings game since the PS3 refresh. You'd imagine the concept still has appeal enough for them to get Team 17 to knock out another update although I'm not sure how the PS Vita version sold.
love the can sip!!! merry xmas clint, i see the sub count is at a cool 1 mil, well done man. you truly deserve it as an old school youtube game legend. take care man.
In 1993 or early 1994 there was a day where I was at my local public library using their free computer that you could reserve for 1 hour. I break the lockout and look around on the hard drive, probably was going to install Doom (which I carried discs for like 2yrs to install on every computer I touched) and found somebody had a version of Christmas Lemmings installed and hidden.
It was a great week of daily 1hour reservations lol
I absolutely love the green/blue screen work you are doing man. this is some good stuff. oh and the Christmas content is good too. HaHa
I love these Christmas LGR videos! ❄🎄
Lemmings was one of the first ever PC games I ever played. Back in the late 80s, on an 8088, CGA mode. Had to be careful, coz the 8088 we had, had a full-sized HDD controller sticking out the top of the PC (the 8088 we had was designed for half-sized ISA cards). If you bumped the desk, the computer would freeze!
bro congrats on 1 million subs :D
I love how your reading a 20 year old CompUSA flyer. One of my favorite things to do in the 90's...aside from the Computer Shopper Bible Mag in the bathroom of course.
Ah yes, I remember my screen going black while switching resolution from the in game to the end game password screen! 😀
Excellent nostalgia! I'd love a review of 'Jones in the fast lane '
EDIT: Never mind just saw that you already did one! aaaawesome.
i can relate to having a christmas themed game that i play it every christmas just because it brings good memories and you can just cuddle up with it and let your mind relax from all the stress this season brings.
Lemmings is a game that does that, just makes you relax and just enjoy it, more if you add a coat of Xmas on top of it, and even if i didnt played this particular version i still can relate to this feeling, because every christmas i play Daze Before Christmas since the first time i played that game was on the Megadrive and with my sister, my father had rented that game and while i was quite peeved because it wasnt Sonic 3, i just really enjoyed playing that game that christmas, in fact i still play it because that year all my family round up around the game and played alongside me till the end, even if my mom just lost right at the middle of the game we just played it all over again until we beat it.
And since then is a tradition for me to play that game on each christmas even if my family are very busy to play the game with me, that's ok because its like a sanctuary for me.
Congrats on the 1 mil clint!
It's nice to see your brother again. I know you don't let him out much.
Clint, Lgr is like a nice cosy next to the fire with a cup of hot chocolate part of the internet. Thankyou.
The best channel on TH-cam!
Ahh... Such happy memories. I was a massive 'Lemmings' fan anyway, loved 'Lemmings 2' also - but had less experience on that as I recall it only ran on VGA so had to grab the very rare hour to play it on my Dad's VGA (I only had EGA in those days!).
'Holiday Lemmings' (a.k.a. Christmas Lemmings) I have particular memories of, playing it alone one Christmas afternoon as what little family I had yakked away like no tomorrow. Somehow those little Lemming dude plummeting to their deaths made the day feel slightly better... get your psychology hat on for that one!!
My floppy of Xmas Lemmings went kaput a year or so later and for whatever reason I never managed to get hold of another copy, but I've now promised myself to attain a copy of it from somewhere and replay it's glory this holiday season... kersplat!!
[Laughs in AmigaOS]
Off topic, but as it sometimes happens, recently an old memory popped up in my brainz. The Sint Nicolaas (or Saint Nicholas) DOS game(s). A simple platformer where you jump on the roofs, streetlamps and birds, picking up presents and delivering them to correct chimneys. I really loved that game, beautiful design and sounds, good responsive controls, I think that was the closest to the Santa experience I've ever got.
I have the original soundtrack from the first Lemmings game and also from Lemmings 2, the tribes on my pc. I often played Lemmings in my childhood, and childhood memories still lives on. I will always love dos games.
Clint, you're so blessed if you've never had to wash up a huge pile of dirty dishes on December 26th (Boxing Day)! 😅
Your videos are awesome! Thanks, merry xmas. Cheers
I remember playing this game on a old ms dos machine (heck I have no clue what it was, it didn't even have a harddrive) the screen was green coloured. I think my father still has the machine on the attic with the original printer as well.. unfortunately my curiosity killed the machine as I took out one of the cache cards and after it the machine stopped working. I should try to fix it one day! I really enjoy your videos, great job!
I never understood how to play this game but it was a lot of fun. It didn't know what the heck you're doing
OMG you hit a million subs. Congrats brother and well earned.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CLINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I want for Christmas is Christmas Clint
I remember when Holiday lemmings came out. I was overjoyed because it was one of the few VGA games that ran well on my 286-12, dos 5.0 box. Overall it was a very enjoyable game that I played for decades. Almost makes me want to pull that old system out and give it a go again.
94 Xmas Lemmings, I had this on Amiga... Came as freeware on the Amiga Magazine around late 94/ early 95. My Dad found it while thrifting many years later, defo beat washing up.
I had my holiday lemmings 94 came bundled with lemmings 3D on CD. It had an interesting level choice for flurry 8, it used to Oh No More Lemmings rock tile set. The level is called 'Vacation in Gemland' if I recall. Other versions had 'Clouds of Lemmings' with the xmas tile set instead. Another noticeable change is Flurry 9 which is 'A Block From home'. On the PC, the first section is a snowballs neatly stacked with gaps in between them. Other versions had a full snowy mountain in a similar shape with no holes in to deal with instead.
Thanks to your video I was talking about Lemmings with my bf and he never knew the Disney movie was fake. He thought the poor Lemmings really did that.
I need to break out my copy of Lemmings and play it! Thanks for posting the video :)
I remember playing this game on my mom's 386 when I was a kid. got the whole collection to this day! in digital format.
Ah! The rare second sighting...
The legends are true!
OMG! i have been trying to remember this games name for so long!!!! thank you!!!!!!!!
Congrats on 1 million Clint!
Dear Father Clintmas, if you want to sneak in another Christmas video then you could cover the Xmas special that was Canon Soccer (Canon Fodder and Sensible Soccer) on the Amiga. Keep up the good work 👍🎄
I bought this game on disc from my school Schoolastic catalog. It was so much fun! This was the early 2000's.
