  • In March/April 2023 FirstBus Leicester has taken delivery of their first few WrightBus GB Kite Electroliners and a few of them were seen a few times during May as they were tested with dead runs on various routes. Then on 22 May 2023, FirstBus Leicester finally set 2 GB Kites in service for the 17 Highfields Circular so I have been riding on it a few times at the time it started. In my opinion the GB Kite is a great upgrade compared to the StreetLites that they mostly use as the seats are more comfortable, there are backwards facing seats at the back and there's more air and space inside so I'm happy about it. FirstBus Leicester intends to replace all of the StreetLites and the Eclipse Urbans and Eclipse 2s with these new GB Kites as there are 60-70 in order for Leicester and then they will be used on various routes like the 4 to Rushey Mead, 16 to General Hospital, 18 to Braunstone, 21 to Blount Road, 25/26 to Beaumont Leys and Mowmacre Hill, 38 and 38A to Netherhall and Thurnby Lodge, the 88 and 88A to Saffron Lane and Eyres Monsell and the 74 to Anstey
The exact bus that I took was
    Registration Plate - BK23 HCU
    Fleet Number - 63502

Went on today and I quite like it. Far more superior to the Streetlites that’s for sure. A lot more comfier and smoother.
Compared to the yutongs they’re also not as aggressive with the acceleration and overall a bit quieter (although on these there is a louder electric noise).
Very disappointed though that there seems to be no Air Conditioning (and very few opening windows?).
Plus there’s less available standing room in my opinion compared to the Streetlites as they’ve opted for fixed seats rather than fold down? (Not good really as they plan to replace some double deckers with these, unless plans have changed).

There's mostly fan noise. Idk about the air conditioning as it felt it was at normal room temperature yesterday and today. FirstBus Leicester will have some new electric double deckers like the WrightBus StreetDeck Electroliner

@@niralvassantilal5623 they’ve only ordered 18 double deckers according to press release. They’ve ordered 68 kites.
They currently have about 56 singles and 34 double deckers. Doing the math I’d say definitely a loss on double deckers, sadly. I hope this won’t affect passengers. Because I for one wouldn’t want to be on a packed single. Had it the other day on 14A from Beaumont leys. A Streetlite heaving!

@TheLaunderetteExplorer_UK oh dear, they'll probably use the old streetdecks then

@@niralvassantilal5623 well that’s what I hope too.. but on the 18 double decker press release it said.. these 18 extra buses to our existing 68 gb kites order will firmly make Leicester a first full electric depot outside of London?.
Unless I am miss reading into it or something.
Personally if I ran the operation.. I’d adjust my orders with Wright (there’s still time as well). I’d change it to 50 Kites.. add 18 electro streetdecks to existing 18.. then keep 4 E400’s (give them a complete refurb - seen it in potteries, they can change the floor and everything could even match the electrics inside! and repaint into a new Leicester livery out of frequent fourteen). That way they could still be used to boost capacity and the Amazon shuttles. That’s 90 vehicles. I’m not sure what the PVR is but I’m sure there’s around that figure (before the electrics arrived, and if you don’t count the airport operation).

Yes I found the Yutongs to be a bit on the agressive side when we visited Leicestershire a couple of weeks ago. On out return trip on the Hop! (Granby Street to Jubilee Square), they'd had some frequency bunching up, so our bus was packed. We had to stand - and I actually found it a challenge to stay upright. Fast and stop and nothing in between!
Found the P&R Yutongs impressive. They were very fast.

Love the look of these. But the seats look very narrow to me.

It's the same size as the current seats found on all of FirstBus' buses, i do agree with u on that as I prefer Centrebus' Yutong seats as they are more wider

These are actually the old spec seats.. found on the Braunstone Bus & Saffron singles, and Frequent fourteen double deckers (these were updated to these seats when repainted). A lot more comfier than the newer spec found on the Streetlites, Streetdeck and 33718! (Interestingly they didn’t opt to change the frequent fourteen Streetdecks though, just the E400) - More padded and slightly larger.

@@niralvassantilal5623 I visited Leicestershire for about 10 days 2 weeks ago after a gap of 4 years. Rode on the Yutong P&R's and the Hop! The seats seemed normal sized to me on those. Will have a video of my trip online Saturday evening.
Back in the 90's I worked for Midland Fox, so remember the "one and a half bum" seats in the Transit Fox Cubs. 😁
The Iveco's were slightly better. These Wrightbus electric buses made me think of the coach seated Iveco's.
