Minelab Manticore For Beginners: Creating a Custom Coin Pattern - The Easy Way.

  • In this video I'm diving into the customization features of the Minelab Manticore Metal Detector. One of the biggest challenges is understanding how to customize some of the search modes, discrimination patterns, ferrous limits etc. I'm going to show you a quick way of creating your own discrimination patterns that you can use for coins, relics, beach targets etc. This is one way of doing it and since I am relatively new to the Manticore I'm sure there are better ways. Drop me a comment if you think I could have done this better, differently etc. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks for watching!

      Don be careful though, those coins are the ones I have laying around but the coin range on this machine is scattered all across the scale you will surely miss something by doing this. Unfortunately, it will be tough to get them all.

      @@MentalMetal when I received the machine, I used the preprogrammed pattern. I’ve since notched things out with decent success. And now, I just altered the high conductive pattern per “iffy signals pattern” . Thanks to the fresh snow, I won’t be testing it out anytime soon.

      I have a question. I get a lot of chirping and iron tones coming in at the upper coin ranges. I’m constantly staring at my screen. I’m using your pattern, 5 tone regional, ground balancing along with noise cancelling, dropping sensitivity to under 20. No power lines within a hundred plus yards. Any ideas what I may have going on ? Thanks

      The awesome thing about the Manticore for Australian coins is it's suuuuper easy to set up for JUST the $1 and $2 coins. 64 to 68 and tighten up a custom Ferrous pattern to make it nice and neat. Then go swing at parks and footpaths near milkbars and you'll pull in some $ haha.

    Coffee with Scott! You are right, no one is an expert here, and Minelab will have some software updates coming, hopefully to improve heavy iron functionality. I'm not interested in a Manticore, as I live on the cellar holes and my D2 is working well there ..... but if I was a park guy, I'd try your new program out Scott, I like it.

    Thank you, I think this is exactly the program I have been looking for. I have friends who spend a lot of time hunting horseshoes, bullets, etc. I, on the other hand, have a hard enough time getting up and down from the ground and would like the time I spend being more productive.
    I have been very disappointed with the Manticore so far, especially when I go to a high iron park and it won't calm down. The noise mixed in with the good stuff can be nerve-racking. This will definitely help me tame the beast.

    I’ve had my manticore now, for three days, having a great time with it, I’m finding the menu system, nowhere near as intimidating as I thought it would be! Your videos, I might add, have been extremely helpful! But I’m still paranoid about notching out anything, because I’m strictly a beach hunter, and jewelry, gold, and other items can show up pretty much anywhere else, and I’m always paranoid about missing good targets. However, I have a pad and pen with me out on the beach every day, and I’m keeping track of where certain items always seem to fall, so probably within the next few weeks I hope to start making adjustments similar to what you’ve done here. Every day is a learning experience with this great happy! 👍

    Thanks for this. Brilliant method. I'm going to have to try it out, as I just got my Manticore yesterday, upgrading from a Nox 900.
    I'll be interested in seeing how it handles modern nickels (which the Nox sees as a pull tab, or a gold ring). If I can get rid of pull tabs I'll be happy.

    you can do that on the e-track but with the manticore you can do something you cant do on any other machine. discriminate without discriminating, discrimination compromises depth but with the manticore you can go to 5 tone and change the tone and volume of unwanted targets to ferrous tone and volume to barely audible and change keeper targets to high pitch high volume only hearing good targets without discriminating unwanted.

    I like this approach. It’s ‘real world’ for wherever we are in the world and what we want to find. Hi. I am in Australia and just my my mantilcore a week ago.
    I have been playing around with exactly as you are showing here, but once I made up my own patern, I would loose it after shut down.
    I was not using a preset patent and adding it to favourites.
    That's where I think I went wrong.
    My CTX 3030 actually had some blank patterns you could use( instead of overwriting a loaded patern).
    I would like minelab to have a few spare paterns for this reason.

    have you had a chance to use this program in an area where falsing is occurring? Does it quiet it down, lesson it, eliminate it, etc?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trying it out today so we'll see. I doubt it though. I mean it will be quieter I'm guessing

    I tried this while I was working through menus. My problem with this setting is that if there are excluded targets also under the loop at the same time as the silver target, then I think the Manticore does what it was told, and doesn't beep. So it appears that this is a great filter in fairly clean sites, but not so much in noisy iron areas. Please let me know if you have the same experience, and if you came up with a solution. cheers.

      thanks for the comment, this is not meant for a iron infested site even though if you got the update and turned on the ferrous indications (red numbers) you still might do alight if you increase the recovery speed. The problem with all these what if scenarios, is that you will never really know what's under the coil when you are really hunting so give yourself the best odds that you can. Use as little filtering as you can.

    Maybe add custom iron discrimination to your program? I don’t understand why the machine has so many custom patterns available per program.

      I don't like to use too much iron disc to be honest.

    Can do the same thing on the E-trac and CTX.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course you can but the process is different (I never used the E-trac so I'll take your word on it).

    Great Video. I will use this video when my Manticore shows up. Thank you a bunch. I have one question, I've read that when you discriminate out metals, you lose depth. With this program will we be losing any depth?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anytime you put filtering on any machine you will be giving up something. I don't think anyone really knows yet how some of these changes impact depth on the Manticore. It didn't to impact me much at my site.

    The coins might have different ID’s when they are in the ground ?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the soil and depth they will change a bit. This is true for all detectors.

    I’ve followed your video and set up this coin program on the Manitcore, it will hit coins on top of the ground, but struggling to hit anything buried. I even buried some modem clad coins and struggle to hit them. What am I doing wrong.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry Gary thats sounds strange, did you do the normal, ground balance, noise cancel etc.? I'm not really sure what else to suggest. Try all metal mode to see if the ferrous limits are screwing it up.

      I’m going to reset it and follow your steps from the video again, to see if I did something stupid to cause it not to work. It’s a great video and idea so I can’t understand why it’s not working.

      @@MentalMetal I reset that program, and followed your steps as you did in the video. Only thing I did different was pulled the lower shaft out and turned the coil detecting side up. I ran the coins across and pressed the accept/reject button as instructed. This time it’s seems to work just fine. Thought I share just in case someone has the same issues. Keep up the great work.

    I'm almost 70, been collecting coins since I was 5. So I had to dig out some of my coins, also I live in Arizona, so there are thousands of illegals that pass through each week. Any way I have a larger target range than you by doing this, added were many silver and copper south American coins, also a few Canadian (we have winter visitors) but the biggest one you will miss with the way you have it is a Steel Wheetie , I have several 1943's. I will be walking behind my buddy who set his up like yours.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bob C. Maybe you could share how you are doing it. :-) I'm not really concerned about missing steel wheaties considering the chances are low that I would find them anyway. But they are something I would be interested in finding for sure.

    Good demonstration, I watch all your videos!!
    I'll be purchasing a Manticore, and hopefully in the near future upgrading to the CTX4040.
    I would love to see you go to the beach with it notched out to the max. What will you find?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I would do that much notching for the beach.

    What is an I’d range?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  ปีที่แล้ว

      The good target id range on the manticore is from 0-99, targets will be identified with a number. A quarter will show a target ID of 88 as an example.
