  • Hello and Welcome to SureenaSpeaks!
In this video I cover how to conduct an EHC consultation.
**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**: For EHC if considering to give to a woman under 16 it is important that Fraser Guidelines are referred to and that appropriate training has taken place. Levonorgestrel CANNOT be sold to a woman under 16 years old unless there is a PGD in place (or it is on a prescription).

hi sureena thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and supporting new pharmacist. you are such a blessing to us. i have 2 question regarding emergency contraception if u don't mind:
    1. If sex happen 6 days after ovulation can we give either ellaone or levonelle? Im confused which part that they really need to use IUD. as the pills doesn't work if the ovulation have occurred right?
    2. when you said we need to ask about last period and if its abnormal and need to refer, I don't understand this part, I try to find about this in the fsrh but maybe I'm blind. like what kind of abnormalities and does it mean if the abnormalities affect patient's fertile period?

Hiya! For Q1 I'd recommend the FSRH guidelines to help you with this query :) For Q2 abnormalities could be an individuals period being lighter or heavier than usual, more painful than usual etc - something that diverts from their usual symptoms they experience when having a period. Hope that helps :)

Do you have to have a certificate to give EHC? Or being registered with GPHc enough?

We need a national pharmacy sexual health service with one PGD, and no age restriction .

Hi, if a PGD is not in place, are we allowed to supply two tablets of levonorgestrel for a patient e.g. on an anti-epileptic over-the-counter? Or would we need to refer them to the GP to prescribe it?

I thought that you could use ulipristal more than once in the same cycle but not levonorgestrel more than once in the same cycle as EHC ?

Hiya! From 8.46 onwards I explain the use of EHC more than once in a cycle :) I highly recommend the "Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Emergency Contraception" for further support - it's a free resource available from any internet browser :)
