I'm in Mobay, and when I saw the other day that Starlink is here. I decided to run a Flow test and noticed an increase in my FLOW speeds from 46-50mbps ish, to now 100mbps+. So competition is good for us all.

I ordered mine 2 weeks past and it shipped already. Supposed to reach next week. I’m finding a good spot on my roof. Digital+ is so slow on Morant Point, I’m really looking forward to Starlink. Now that I see your speed test, I know I made the right decision.

I just got my Starlink and put it on the roof today. 140 down, 20 up. Low latency. One test I just ran was as low as 13ms. After it’s up a day or so and gets totally locked in I understand the speeds could go higher. I got the Ethernet adapter and bought a small unmanaged gigabit switch on Amazon. All is working perfectly. I anchored the mounting stand to cement blocks on my zinc roof. 😂 I’ll probably get a real mount once I know the perfect spot for it. Loving it so far, and so fast. That’s why I’m up at 3:00am. Couldn’t sleep with all that internet speed just sitting there unused. So I got up to use it. 🎉❤😂

@@crosses101the main issue is having money up front to put in the system. Once you have solar, you will see that the money you spent for 5 years of electricity is way less than you would have given to JPS for unreliable service over the same time.
A DYI off-grid setup for a cabin is very cost effective. Just need a LifePO4 battery (or two) a charge controller and inverter (good prices on Amazon) and a couple used panels. Good to go.
starlink are for persons who are stuck with dsl or don't have access to any form of high speed internet. with that said i recommend to go flow since they are normally cheaper and offer good speeds if ur in one of there area where ether their fiber or dossic cable is available.
Agreed. If reliable service is available where you are, no need to go with starlink. If you r in an area where you only have mobile or limited internet access, this may be a good option

Yes, it’s in Jamaica. It’s been standing and battling the elements for almost a year now. Lots of mildew and wear in some areas, but it has treated us well for the time. We may get another as a replacement (but will take better care, next time).

Am looking into start link to work from home. I currently have Flow internet and the connection is so bad I am at risk of losing my job. I have so many Flow tickets for the same problem it is a joke at this point. I have to work with wire connection though and I am not sure it starlink is ideal. Hello, so far for us, Starlink has been very reliable for our needs. We use the WiFi option only at this point, however, Starlink has an optional device for wired connection. Hoping that other users of Starlink can share their experiences to help you with a decision. Also hope your current provider is able to address the issue with their service, soon. All the best.
Interestingly all satellite data services work better closer to the equator do to their orientation. Just a heads up, Starlink has started to impose a 1TB data cap within a rolling 6 month billing cycles. Once exceeded they will throttle the data till the next payment.

What address do you use to set up the account: for example if I'm on Mint Road, Grange Hill Westmoreland (small town address); this address does not show up in their system, thus allowing me to set up the account ...so...what address do/should I enter to set up the account if I'm on a small street in nowheresville Jamaica...IMO, they will have coverage for all of Jamaica, but unfortunately, not every little address will show up in their system, so this is my question
There should be an option when registering that you can check to say use the address anyway. If not, you can use the address of your credit card or a work address

If you have a lot of trees, you may have to mount it on a pole higher than the top of the trees (the cord that comes with the device is 75ft long, but you could also order the 150ft cord). Or, if you can’t, you may have to prune some of the branches from the trees (hope you don’t have to cut down any). I recently had to move our dish that was mounted on the roof of our cabin and place it on a pole up the side of a hill, to avoid obstruction from a nearby tree.

Ours slow as well, but we’ve not seen it go below 50mbps. What we’ve found however, it takes forever to establish a connection when we power it up during heavy rain.
Not sure I understand the question, but when I test, I am normally getting about 130mg download speed. Sometimes higher sometimes lower depending on weather condition.
Satellite has a terrestrial drawback..., but Starlink has transcended this. This has my attention, 🧐👀 putting this on my bucket list. Them two providers in this country, have driven me up the wall for the last time 😮💨💆🏾♂️

We use residential. Lite is a recent addition for Jamaica and some restrictions. It’s not really geared for mounting (although you can buy mounts for it) and it has a 50GB/mth (I think) cap/limit, after which point you pay per Gb. Also, the dish is smaller, and based on some comparison tests, is slower than the standard dish. I wouldn’t recommended for regular home use, but for off grid/camping instead
Out of the box, it’s $8,500/mth. If you decide to add features, like portability (which allows you to use at locations other than the registered address) comes with additional costs.

So far, I’ve used in Kingston and in Portland with no random outages so far. I believe that to use Starlink in Jamaica, the device would have to be ordered for use in, and delivered to Jamaica so you may not be able to move an active starlink in one country and use it in another. I may be wrong but would be good for u to check and confirm.

It currently takes about 2-3 weeks for delivery. Delivery is to your door (in Jamaica) via DHL. You don’t have to setup immediately, but they will start billing after you receive it. To avoid billing, you can setup and then “pause” the service (from the website) until you are ready to use it.

I’m currently using in the bush of Portland and getting up to 150mb download. I have some trees obstructions which affects speed now so will be relocating the dish in another couple of weeks. I was getting 250-300mbps when used in Kingston. I guess the speed will vary based on where you are located.

Hey Bro, First you have to sign up on the starlink.com website and then order. When it’s ready, they send email asking you to confirm your order then they ship directly to your address (or you can pick up at DHL) when it arrives
When ordered, you have to indicate the installation location, so I expect you should be able to order for someone else, and the monthly bills come to u

Could be how far you are from their transmission tower.

Service is working great for us. Still using it off-grid, out in the Portland bush. Speed fluctuates but getting 110 mbps this morning.

If you have a lot of trees, you may have to mount it on a pole higher than the top of the trees (the cord that comes with the device is 75ft long, but you could also order the 150ft cord). Or, if you can’t, you may have to prune some of the branches from the trees (hope you don’t have to cut down any).

Billing is via the credit card you have registered on the starlink.com site. 1st month was about $55 so waiting to see if it’s the same next time.
During heavy rain mine slow down to 9.73 mbps from a high of 323 mbps
Ours slow as well, but we’ve not seen it go below 50mbps. What we’ve found however, it takes forever to establish a connection when we power it up during heavy rain.

Not sure I understand the question, but when I test, I am normally getting about 130mg download speed. Sometimes higher sometimes lower depending on weather condition.
Satellite has a terrestrial drawback..., but Starlink has transcended this. This has my attention, 🧐👀 putting this on my bucket list. Them two providers in this country, have driven me up the wall for the last time 😮💨💆🏾♂️

Not sure how to fix that. Check your bank statement if the payment went thru, or contact your bank about the message.

We use residential. Lite is a recent addition for Jamaica and some restrictions. It’s not really geared for mounting (although you can buy mounts for it) and it has a 50GB/mth (I think) cap/limit, after which point you pay per Gb. Also, the dish is smaller, and based on some comparison tests, is slower than the standard dish. I wouldn’t recommended for regular home use, but for off grid/camping instead

Any random outages and what area are u in? Kingston? For example. I was thinking about moving to Jamaica for a few months and want to be sure i can connect to theninternet for school and my job.
So far, I’ve used in Kingston and in Portland with no random outages so far.
I believe that to use Starlink in Jamaica, the device would have to be ordered for use in, and delivered to Jamaica so you may not be able to move an active starlink in one country and use it in another.
I may be wrong but would be good for u to check and confirm.

So far, it appears to be a fixed amount. Netflix as if you are in Jamaica. Haven’t tested VPN as yet

We get a Jamaica IP address so VPN will be required to get US feed (eg for streaming services).

There are various options, but the base package starts at $7,000/month for fixed residential installation.
How long did it take you to get the equipment, and do you have to set it up right away
It currently takes about 2-3 weeks for delivery. Delivery is to your door (in Jamaica) via DHL. You don’t have to setup immediately, but they will start billing after you receive it. To avoid billing, you can setup and then “pause” the service (from the website) until you are ready to use it.
Since the device has to be set up outside, my concern is what happens when it rains? Do you have to go without internet?
It works in very overcast and rain conditions. We have not tested in torrential downpour as yet, but hopefully soon.

I’m currently using in the bush of Portland and getting up to 150mb download. I have some trees obstructions which affects speed now so will be relocating the dish in another couple of weeks. I was getting 250-300mbps when used in Kingston. I guess the speed will vary based on where you are located.
