    The irony is that when Jimmy killed Ray Harris, Jimmy set up the dominoes for his daughter's murder. Because Ray Harris was killed, Silent Ray grew up without a father. Therefore, his brother Brendan became his father figure. So when Brendan planned on running away with Katie, Silent Ray's whole world was about to fall apart. That's why he felt the need to threaten Katie. It was to keep his brother. Perhaps if Silent Ray still had his father, he would not have been so dependent on his brother and would not have felt the need to threaten Katie. This movie does a great job of showing the ripple effects of violence.

    If I remember correctly, Sean suspects Jimmy of killing Dave, and the finger point is meant to say he knows what he did, and he'll be coming for him. Jimmy's shrug acknowledges he knows Sean is on to him.

    • @visualizeprog2874
      @visualizeprog2874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think Sean is saying "I'll be coming for you". Jimmy, a two time murderer (that we know of) with his Savage Brothers goons and the speech that he just got from his wife about being a "King", is so cocky now that he feels untouchable and gives Sean a "so what?" shrug like he's not scared of Sean or the rule of law. By the end of the film, Jimmy has crossed the line and lost much of his humanity.

So when it was good they couldn't give it to mystic river even if they wanted to. Return of the King got it basically for all 3 movies. In the 1960's, psychotherapists were pretty much out of the question. It would have tarnished the family name. Things were a lot different back then. Also, odds were extremely high the children would never have spoken up, especially the victim. I was 44 before I said a peep to anyone over what happened to me when I was 4. It was a vastly different era: far superior in many ways; far inferior in others. The shift to the way we see and handle such things now didn't gain any real traction until the late 90's.

      Certainly Dave didn't deserve any of what happened to him. From the moment he got into that car to ending up dead in the Mystic River, he was haunted by deep trauma. Dave was was just trying to get past his tragedy and live a normal life with a wife & kid, but the world wouldn't let him. Jimmy (the "King" so tough that he brings his two goons along so that Dave will be outnumbered) has pretty much lost his humanity by the time he pulls the trigger. Jimmy is now the kind of scumbag that he (falsely) accuses Dave of being. Jimmy's wife is encouraging his thug-like behavior with her speech about being the "King" & brave he is because he'll do anything to protect his family. How did killing an innocent man who'd already been a victim of kidnappers and pedophiles protect Jimmy's family? (Her speech comes AFTER she knows Dave was innocent of killing their daughter.). By the end of the movie, Jimmy is a criminal pile of garbage. Sean, on the other hand has become a better person and sees Jimmy for what he's become. I don't think that the ending is meant to say that Jimmy gets away with it. When Sean does the gun motion with his hand I think he's clearly saying "I know you did it & I'll be coming to get you". Jimmy shrugging it off as if to say "try it", that the kind of cocky thug he's become. Though not tied-up with a definitive ending where you see Jimmy getting taken away in a cop car, I think the image of Sean doing the gun gesture indicates that he's not going to give up and let him get away with it.

      @@visualizeprog2874 100% agree. My sympathy for Jimmy was all over right after he killed Dave. I was so shocked that his wife was totally unfaced with what he did and even tried to justify his actions. I always had a feeling that Sean doing the gun motion with his hand was him implicating that he knew what Jimmy did and were gonna hunt him down for it. Jimmy's shrug, for me, was him implicating that he didn't care, and was probably okay with it, like he knows he has it coming to him. But like I said, this movie was brilliant, but I simply can't rewatch it again knowing it ain't gonna end well for anyone. The film didn't make me happy that I saw it. It just made me feel empty and cheated.

    Hey man, just wanted to say I appreciate your channel and I like seeing your love for film grow with every reaction. It's good to see someone that recognizes good filmmaking and appreciates the art and craftsmanship involved. I would highly recommend anything by the visionary director Darren Aronofsky. His films are always unique and visually arresting.

    The ending when Sean pointed the fake gun at him can be interpreted many ways. Some say it means he will get him for Dave. Others think it's Sean telling him he relates to him as knowing all that he does but will not go after him because of their past. It's up for interpretation

      Naw, since this was based off the book, it was implying that he was going to get Jimmy.

    Excellent movie, excellent acting and directing. As the mother of a murdered son, I can tell you personally the acting was a perfect portrayal of what a parent really goes through emotionally on first learning their child was killed.
    A Perfect World is another excellent Clint Eastwood directed (and acted) movie starring Kevin Costner. It will leave you with the feels for sure.

    As a former construction worker of 4 years. Yes it’s illegal you’re vandalizing either public or private property and depending on the owner they can press charges. Writing or drawing on property is basically under the category or graffiti.. I’ve done it when I was a teen. It’s cool looking back 13 years later and it’s still there tho

    This movie is brutal, so good. It's my personal favorite of Eastwood, though I haven't seen them all. He's actually got a new movie common out, that looks pretty slick, called Macho or something like that. I don't think I'd love the man (he's like a dinosaur) , but damn if he can't make the shit out of a movie. I'll see his new one, and any more he makes. Guy's beyond talented, as a filmmaker.
