I visited Edinburgh in 2014 and saw the guy you gave a fiver as well. I believe he even stood in the same position. Brilliant.
Enough of the bad jokes, that was a great video as usual. Keep up the work, Lindy.

Just wanted to say your vids are really enjoyable.
I popped in once for some info about swords and fighting posture for a lighthearted game I'm developing.
...a month later I'm finding myself checking back for new episodes on your channel.
    A joy to watch sir.

Tiger74147 was until recently, used to work at main library at george square. Anyone with resits had to wade through the stream coming from pleasance to get to their exams. Its kinda funny but a pain for the most part.

Wow! Now I see. I also imagine the Fringe Festival in Minnesota is based on it; it has very similar mechanisms.
When my wife and I were travelling in Britain a number of years ago, we accidentally ended up going through Edinburgh at the time of the festival. We weren't anywhere near it, but until we got there we couldn't figure out why every hotel room in Edinburgh was 4 times as much as those elsewhere on the trip.

My partner played in a Children's Show called 'Katie and the Mona Lisa' for the whole month of August at the Pleasance One Theatre :). It was my first time to Edinburgh going up to visit her for our 4 year anniversary (gosh), and seeing her show. AMAZING city, not as odd/different as I thought it might be (i live in London), but the Fringe festival was just immense!
I only got to see 3 ticketed shows, but the street performances on the Golden Mile were never ending. Some amazing musician's EPs ended up in my bag for the trip home.
On the point of there not being much auditions, it really showed, not always in a negative way, but I was told (via my back-stage access) that so many of the shows were either pilots, proof's of concept, or troubleshooting for a tour planned later in the year. Very odd, but among all that were some absolute gems ;). Fills Monkey!
Great to see you covering it Lindy. I'll be returning next year for sure. If you do another show there I will keep my eyes peeled for you! Regards.

The stand up is the BEST bit about the fringe, Lloyd, what you on about? That and the street freaks, who sadly seem to be dying out to be replaced with drama students 😝. I was raised up in Edinburgh, and it was, all things considered, an honour and a privilege. Stand up is the most pure and honest form of stage performance. It doesn't matter how much mony you pour into the presentation of it, if you don't have the talent, you don't get the result. A single performer who can stare down and entire audience without a break for the whole show deserves the upmost respect.

I used to work one block over from the main area of the Edmonton Fringe Festival. I came to hate it with a white-hot passion. In the beginning it was all about the shows, but over time it became a fine-screen money filter. The festival organisers sold more and more vendor spaces on-site and added a gauntlet of volunteer beggars at the entrances, the goal was clearly to let the patrons leave with the least amount of money as possible.
When I started that job we used to have to bring in extra staff, by the end of my time there we didn't do anything special. The theatre goers only left the grounds to get to their cars and our regular customers were all scared away by the crowds.
To be fair: the people putting on the shows were doing so for all the reasons, good and bad, that they ever did. But the avarice of the festival organisation itself was ugly. They're apparently a not for profit group, but you'd never know it by the way they do business.

The Brighton fringe is *Very* Fringey, Very obscure acts in very unusual venues.
. I went to a play in the Old disused Police Dungeons under the town hall where a bunch of students did a really arty play about the trials and tribulations of being a teenager, Surprisingly not pretentious, and quite amazing use of the set and lighting.

I live in kelso near Edinburgh, me and my girlfriend took a trip up to the fringe with high hopes of seeing some "Art" we ended up being confused because we didn't know where to go and what to look for, we waited thirty minutes to be served a beer after an hour of looking for a seat at any pub possible, and then retired early due to exhaustion.
i entirely blsme ourselves for our disappointment as we did no prior research and really didn't know what we where in for and feel we got totally over stimulated, we are planning to go back and take our time over a few days rather than a single day, I have not yet developed an opinion as I feel I did not do the place any justice.

Improv sends shivers down my spine. It often falls embarrassingly on its arse, and the 'creators' often have a very inflated ego. Some people like it and I applaud them, personally I don't. It reminds me of playground antics. It's often a group of friends who find each other funny, and think that's enough to please everyone. I'd rather watch a scripted show on a topic I dislike, than improv on a subject I enjoy. And there are so many improv shows at the fringe it's tedious. Humbug.

I have bitter-sweet memories of pleasance this year. The show i saw was awful but i had the best pulled pork and haggis sandwich in my life. I consider it a victory.

About time no censorship is what we need put up what ever the hell you want just be prepared for criticism and if there are other views be prepared to defend it intelligently with sources.
