Beyond Glenfinnan - through the Viaduct ...

  • The landscapes around Glenfinnan are fantastic! Most people will go to see the " Harry Potter " viaduct or to visit where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the standard, but the mountains surrounding Glenfinnan are the real stars of the show .....

Knoydart will forever be close to my heart. It's truly the last wilderness in the UK. Every time I'm there I love it.

Remember going under that Viaduct back in 2012 doing the Cape Wrath trail. Stayed the night at the Bothy along there as well. It even had electric. Thanks for the video. Richard

Nice share Murray , I love wandering along Glenfinnan . Once you leave the viaduct behind you it is always peaceful . It is a good number of years since we have been up to the top of any of the hills though ! I once dropped my camera bag while up the hill behind the waterfall ( after the bothy) it rolled down the hill and landed in the burn!!!!
Thankfully it eventually got stuck on a rock so the human could climb down to retrive it before it reached the waterfall . The camera was wrecked and so was the SD card ( with a weeks holiday snaps on it ) but the car key and cottage key were safe ; ) Getting parked these days is the main issue unless you arrive early or late in the day. Thanks for sharing Take care :D Teddy

I like the videos of you and your brother out there enjoying the hills together - your Schoolhouse Ridge video is brilliant as is this one.
Getting up the hills with my family makes a nice day that wee bit nicer. I'm actually headed for Schiehallion in the morning with my 10 year old daughter. Will be her 3rd Munro if she makes it.
Streap looks really good. Glad you took the extra effort for it.

Would also like to know. Handy for surveying hills before you go.
I know on a computer on google maps if you press shift then move the roller on a mluse you can do similar. But this looks better

I have sometimes wondered what is beyond the viaduct. You mentioned Loch Arkaig - I was there last summer whilst at Banavie on a wildlife holiday which was fab. We went to see the ospreys. Question - is it possible to get through to Loch Arkaig on the path along which you cycled?

That’s too weird for words, i m off to Moidart early tomorrow and was just packing up the van and debating with myself whether to do these or possibly the Roshven Corbetts.....which i notice you also did a while ago!!
Will I get parked if I opt for the Glenfinnan munros though ??
Oh well an overnight camp at Smirisary beach or the singing sands at Acharacle is a deffo whichever option it is...!
    Tough choices haha...

Either Bruach na Frithe or Blaven, although neither are a pushover.
Splendid views from both, so it's worth waiting for clear conditions if possible.

    • @davids9549
      @davids9549 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@benkeeley134 Never, ever, go into that kind of terrain without a good map, compass, and the ability to use them, irrespective of the presence of paths.
An additional factor to be aware of is that as you get higher up on that particular range of hills (The Cuillin), there are magnetic anomalies due to the nature of the rock, which make a magnetic compass unreliable, so it is essential to have a good knowledge and awarenes of your surroundings.
If this all sounds a bit too much, I suggest you take a guided trip!

I did this route in reverse minus Streap in 97 when I was 22. My mum n dad had rented a cottage just down the road towards Ft William, so I joined them for a couple of days with Ben Nevis and this route in my mind! I forgot my camera on this walk and its been on my list to do again at some point. My 1st Munros, great views and I had better weather than the day after when I did Nevis. Midweek in August and I didn't see anybody else!
Found your Heaven n Hell vid yesterday, subscribed, now watched several more, great vids, keep em coming.

Coireachan was my 100th Munro. We spent a week in Knoydart, train to Glenfinnan (before Harry Potter), staying at the bothies in Glen Pean, Kinbreak and Sourlies and out to the boat at Inverie. That was nearly forty years ago so it was great to return via your video. Thanks.

Climbed Sgurr Nan Coireachan pretty much a year ago whilst staying in Glenfinnan. Straight up and down from the banks of Loch Shiel. On my own and not that much of an experienced climber to be honest. Bit more of a scramble in places than I expected and a few "moments" descending but great fun. Bizarrely, amazed by the large slugs on the summit! How do they get there?! Anyway, I earned my beer that day!
