Today I'm painting a loose seascape using a limited palette of burnt umber, indigo, paynes grey and prussian blue with a bit of white gouache for highlights on the fishing boat and gulls. I'm using unstretched Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper, 11" x 15"/28cm x 38cm. My board is at an angle of about 45 degrees tilt. Why not try something similar with neutrals mixed from your palette?

I really love the amazing atmosphere you've created. The ultimate in blissfulness. Another aspect that reaches in to my depths, is that we can look at this and make up our own minds what time of year it is. One can either feel the soothing cool at the end of a hot summers day, or to the other extreme, one could be looking at this and wanting to get home quickly, and sit by a roaring fire.
There's so much expression in such a simple image. These are the stories we never get to see on those dramatic docu-soaps. But they are the one my old heart cries out for. Life has enough drama on it's own. Give me tranquillity any day. Wonderful Lois. Thank you so much.

I've lived in more than one fishing community and this has certainly left me a bit on the nostalgic side. Very nicely done.

Lying in a hospital bed near Venice and boy yor demo gave me an amazing lift... Provoves and captures memories of fishing boats returning to Whitehaven. Amazing, you really spoke to me with this and I guess that's what you hope to do....

Wondering why you don't mask your gulls instead of gouache?
Please which small calligraphy brushes do you use. Ive tried many but cant seem to find a good set
Wanting to try this or some of your other paintings. It looks like you used some sort of resist for the light in the sky and the sparkly reflections. Or is that just dry paper there?

Beautiful painting. What brand of calligraphy brush do you use? I've been shopping for them and it's quite confusing.
I purchase unbranded Chinese brushes on EBay, I just buy the cheapest ones I can find

Had a go at it ha ha how do you get the sparkling effect on the water ?its really good but I cant for the life of me replicate it fair play to you your a fantastic artist while I on the other hand am rubbish o well keep trying
It’s dry brush where the brush lightly catches the raised texture of the paper, missing out the dips to create the sparkle!!im sure you will get it with a bit of practice

How many colors do you actually use? I'm fascinated by my favorite artists, such as yourself, because they use roughly the same 4 or 5 colors.
I only use about 6 or 7 colours, maybe adding a few others if the painting calls for it
At 4-05 in, that is a Tug Boat and not a Fishing Boat. It is a nice painting overall though, and your interpretation is nearer to a Fishing boat, than the reference. 👍👍
