Every person "inheriting" something like this house needs a Mack. I can't imagine how depressing it must be to have to tackle it on one's own. I'd freeze. My hubby is good at tackling things like this. He sees light at the end of the tunnel, while I just see an impossible situation. Hope Jason is better soon.
Mack’s breakdown of cleaning is exactly how to do it! Just pick a small space to start with. Then have a little 3-5 minute break and go back to continue. I do cleaning for a job and it’s the best way to not be overwhelmed.
@@NikkiB7598 In this economy? You wouldn’t be able to afford a new house just from the land alone. It’s better to put in the work and slowly renovate what you already have over the years, that way you can have a good property that you can pass down to your children. Maybe you’re already a homeowner, but think about it from the perspective of someone who’s only ever been able to afford shitty rentals, and suddenly gets the luxury of inheriting a house… that looks like this. You don’t have the money to demolish and rebuild, passing up the chance to own a house would be idiotic, and yet… it still looks like this. The only way to not despair is to think long term. You inherited crap, but in an economy in which people have nothing to their name, owning that crap means it’s valuable crap. You’ll do better than the generation before you, and turn this into a home for your children so they don’t have to face the same dilemma you are now. Then again, that mindset might be incompatible with the US mentality of “can’t get too comfortable in a house because we’ll move out in 5 years, keep the walls white and bland and the property value up because it needs to look good for my future buyer” (which I never understood, it’s basically just like living in a rental and treating future buyers like a landlord) so I may be way off here.

My mother in law's house (who had depression for a looooong time and was a cat lady) ended up with termites and roaches- that's when we moved her out of there. 3 years later we found it had been invaded by rats. We hired an exterminator. After her passing, it took us about 2 years to actually gather the courage to tackle it. I'm sure we could've saved some good cookware or other things that I know my husband threw away because he got into a frenzied now-or-never mode. However, I know he was hurting inside as he was doing that. It would have been great to have someone like you around.
Doing the same right now, minus the fire/smoke damage. Hubby's ex was so bad and living among the mice that they're not even afraid of us. I literally watched one feast on peanut butter on a mouse trap today - it didn't trip. We just retook possession last week. We're in the midst of clearing her hoard and cleaning. We'll need to gut the kitchen and bathroom and will likely need to tear out 100 year old hard wood floors. It's heartbreaking to see what she did to that house due to her mental illnesses. I cleaned out the fridge today, new, unexpired food laying on top of fetid, rotted food in the fridge that isn't working, including veggies not in plastic bags laying on top of old veggies that were liquified. She was eating that. She was sleeping amongst mice, maggots, and cat urine and feces. I'm horrified that she was living in that biohazard. I've watched a lot of hoarder shows over the years, I've never seen anything this bad.
My ex sister in law lived in a house like that. Cockroaches crawling on the furniture and walls. Their cat has kittens and about a month afterwards it disappeared. They assumed it got out of the house. A few months later they were moving the furniture around and found it. They hadn't even smelled it.
@@wolfe6220 Okay, that tops what we're working in. honesty, with the air quality in that house, I'm surprised that both of her cats hadn't died, and her too. It's much improved now, almost where we don't have to suit up and wear respirators to protect our own health. Almost fully cleared out and cleaned. Still need to wash the walls and ceilings of the bio matter. We've caught 9 mice so far, but haven't been there for 2 days so there might be more.
Oh, nasty. Imagine living there... Reminds me of my mother's place. The mice were in the ceiling and had chewed through to the point that insulation would rain down on you when the ceiling fan was on. It could have been a beautiful house on a lovely waterfront lot, but she and my stepfather just let maintenance and everyday cleaning go to the point that it was a disastrous health hazard. The hoarding was at next level ridiculousness too. She had one room that you could barely open the door to. Mountains of thrifted and yard sale treasures. She told me that her vacuum was in the closet. So I powered through the hoard to reach the closet, opened the door (had to clear some space), expecting an avalanche of crap to hit me once I opened the door....nothing. The closet was completely empty. 😂
I just found your channel! I thought you may be autistic and then you confirmed it for me. My oldest is on the spectrum. You're doing amazing work! I hope he finds his purpose. He's also brilliant :)
Just found your channel last week, new sub 😊 I umderstand feeling overwhelmed, a couple mice can get into my home during winter & their poop freaks me out. Do you sanitize your vacs & cleaning equip after cleaning up mice areas? I prob over-sanitize & it's very time consuming🐀 Hope to be a member when finances improve :)
one tip with the vacuum cleaners, especially for the shop vac. in this environment. using a vacuum cleaner with a disposable dust bag will help contain the unhealthy particles and you dont have to expose yourself anymore than you already are, its contained in the bag and you can just seal it up and throw it out and put a fresh bag in. Great job on this one
Good job! I have a tip for you. When painting I always “TINT THE PRIMER” !!! This really helps that you won’t have to use 2 coats of paint. I have done this for many years. Hope you will consider my tip.
So my guess with the cans being rusty is that since there's so much mouse poop there's an extremely high likelihood that the entirety of that pantry was soaked in mouse urine. I'm not a chemist, but if I had to hazard a guess, that's where the rust/moisture probably came from.
Brave into a jungle of mess he goes. fearless in his pursuit of mouse droppings expired food and dishes. He will be victorious with his sidekick Jason. The saga continues next week. 🧹🧼🧽🗑️💪
I would have used a full mask with a respirator with eyes covered. This level of mouse poop is scary. Not only that he said there was black mold in that place.
I actually quite like the multipart series, I get invested so it's something to look forward to, and also for you, it helps protect you from burn out as you aren't constantly searching for the next thing for content and the families you help get more help than the probably thought possible... Win win win
I never thought of it that way. I agree 1000 percent with you.. a win win all the way around and everything you said for the homeowners too... so many people need this type of help... especially young families, single mom's and as we age too.
@@johnkelly9451 Remember When Cleaning 🧹🧼🧽 Dishes 🍽🍴🥄🍸 Always Use A Dish Washer It Uses Less Water 💦💧🚿 Then Hand 🤚✋🖐 Washing Dishes Its Also More Hygienic.
I used bleach on a shelf that had been peed on by a lot of mice and my throat started to burn. Layers of dried-up urine residue contain ammonia and I think I made a little bit of chloramine gas. We backed off, opened the windows, soap-and-water washed the shelf first, and then went back in with the bleach. Alcohol is probably a better idea even for someone who isn't allergic.
Mack- The good thing about this house is there really isn't anything that is dirty. Also Mack- We filled a 5 gallon shop vac about half way full with mouse poop just from this pantry. Gotta love this guy lol!
You’re turning this channel into quite the extreme makeover channel! TBH I appreciate the information you provide as well as the visuals. You’re good people!
Thank you Mack for all you and Jason and Emily do to help people. What a blessing you are to them. Your efforts are very far reaching, I am a hoarder who, because of you, recognized my illness and I am taking control.
Looks like my mother’s house. I got the snakes out and then the mice took over. The mice weren’t even afraid of me. She too, had a kitchen fire. We would sleep in a tent when we visited. I mitigated the house, myself. She was very stubborn in that she wanted to live this way. Traumatic flashbacks watching this.
maybe should have left those snakes to take out the mice 😂 seriously though it is a nightmare when you have mice in I hope you managed to not be too triggered.
I'm so sorry you had to go through all that. Granted, I'm sure your mother was going through something herself for her to even be having hoarder problems and general messiness, but she should've sobered up the moment kids get involved. No mother should put their child through that trauma. I hope you're okay.
@@doloresm7396 The ancient Greek had no cats, but they had snakes for hunting the mice. The snakes lived in clay jugs and were treated as pets. Later they got cats from Egypt, and because cats can kill far more mice than snakes, snakes became unpopular.
I was so grateful when you started wearing a mask in the beginning of the episode: I was worried about all that mouse poop! What a wonderful thing you are doing for these people.
That feeling of mortification has stricken my dad and me for a long while now, following an incident that has left my mother in assisted living. I was able to break through a little bit of it today and deep clean our kitchen island, but I'll have to do it all over again with every other part of the house.
My husband choked on his coffee when you introduced yourself, Mack. 🤣 Had to pause it and start over. Looks like this will be a fun project for you and Jason!
Thank you so much for all your videos. I’m a disabled single mum with ADHD and your videos teach me cleaning techniques, how to break down a big project like a super messy room or house and some ADHD tricks. You also give me motivation on days where I’d rather take a spin kick to the face then face housework. I put your videos on and after a few mins I’m up doing something while watching you change the world. Big thanks
“I put your videos on and after a few minutes I’m up doing something while watching you change the world.” Nicely said and a great description. I’m glad he’s helping you change your world. These videos have helped me to change mine.
What a fantastic comment Rachel. I was watching others like ‘a beautiful mess’, and she mentioned MMC. I love his mimicking, his tips, the fact that he’s normal like us, with lots of issues and gets on, finds a way to deal with stuff. What I like most is the incentive he’s giving others that we can do it too, little by little. It’s my daily dose, without negative side effects. That’s a great Pat on the back. Glad you’re getting there too. Best wishes from Devon UK
Chiming in. My housemate is a narcissistic hoarder with ADHD and keeping the home livable seems like a ft job sometime. Mr. Moose-Hater’s narration keeps me going and makes the cleanup du jour much easier.
Can’t wait for episode two! This is just how I moved into my parents house. It’s taken me two years and now I’m “frozen.” like this woman was. It just gets unbearable a huge insurmountable task.
Hang in there, don't give up. Don't let it beat you. I can't go into detail as it's so much. I did things I never thought I could do. Of course I ended up in the hospital from internal bleeding because this tough old broad thought I could move really heavy rock and lay block. Yeah, I did it alright. I've been exposed to lead, asbestos, rats, mice, floods, you name it. I left a beautiful home I completely restored to move to the mountains but had to get out of the city. Somehow I ended up in the middle of a drug bust with Federal Drug Enforcement Agents totally by accident. You know how they say I nearly peed myself, well yeah I get it now. I was putting money in a parking meter at the end of my block, looked up and had agents with their guns drawn with their finger up to their mouths for me to be quiet. I had my briefcase, my handbag, juggling keys, money for the meter and I basically said to myself I am done with this crap, once and for all. I've painted over neighborhood graffiti for years to keep our values up & I just couldn't take it any more. I'm done. Good luck.
@@doloresm7396 Not sure what your life's story has to do with OP's comment. Sorry you went through all that (if it's even real), but this is not about you.
So sorry to hear about what you're going through; it can be tough handling such a big project. Take breaks when you want to. Don't be afraid to ask for help, either. I'm sure nobody would want you to undertake this task alone. You are loved, so let people love you by letting them help you. I wish you luck.
@nomoretwitterhandles that was my problem. I was too embarrassed to ask for help. So I just sat overwhelmed and frozen. On a side note have y'all ever noticed how even the sound of the word embarrassed kinda says it all? Embarrassed.... "I'm bare a$$ed".... Embarrassed.... UH.... Never mind. It's just the Nyquil talking. 😂
Hi Mack! Happy New Year! Just one question -- is it just me, or is the photo of the circuit breaker box with the family photos and a cleaver very creepy?!
You describe that stuckness and overwhelm well. Thank you for helping people understand there's a lot more to these issues than laziness, (if only it was that easy!) And thank you for helping people who need it, and for being endlessly entertaining. You're helping me let others in to help me work on my situation, and I really appreciate everything you do.
Have to admit, this one was difficult to watch for me! 😢I don’t know how you do it!! But I will tell you that you are a special person!!! You also give me incentive to declutter, which I have done since Christmas is over. Though I don’t have a hoarding issue I was having difficulty letting go of stuff belonging to my late husband who passed away year ago last October ☹️. But, I’m doing it!!! Thank you for sharing your passion with us!! Prayers for Emily as she goes through her medical journey ❤
Mack! I love this channel. Happy new year to you and Emily, hope both she and Filth get to feel better soon. I had a question for you: have you ever thought about making one of those Amazon wish lists like teachers do? You could make a wish list for things like N45 masks, special gloves, 70% alcohol, etc where your subscribers could donate some of your supplies for you so you can bring those specialty masks/ hazmat suits with you to the job site. Just a thought. Amazon sets it up so that people who buy things off the list don’t see your address or other personal info. It could help alleviate some of the up-front expenses for you. Think about it!
You have taken on a huge job here. I hope that pantry carpet is going to go soon. Needs replacing with lino if possible, so it would make the pantry more hygienic and easier to keep clean. The wallpaper in the pantry looks very 1950/1960's too. Nice simple designs. I hope you don't get sick doing this one. The soot covered ceiling looks positively evil, so take care. 🥴
It's two O ’clock AM here, in France. I’ll work tomorow. What i’m doing to watch this video right now ? Oh yes ! I can’t wait and It's sooooo satisfying ! Thanks MMC 😊❤
Dude I give you total credit for cleaning all that mouse poop 💩 I don't think I could ever handle that. You do a superb job in all the cleaning you do 👍❤️
Yahoo! I was wondering when we’d start seeing some of the new kind of home transformations (not just cleaning, but also repairing, painting, furniture rearranging, etc). Now that we’re seeing the first, I’m REALLY excited, because you picked a doozy! This house desperately NEEDS attention and care from someone who’s knowledgeable and experienced in deep cleaning and budget renovations! Thank you and Jason for helping to turn this ramshackle, abused house into a home the owners can feel proud of! I’m so looking forward to the next episodes on this renovation! Thank you!!
A minute into this video a gave a thumbs up because you start to see the magnitude of this job and anyone who commits to a job like this deserves a big thumbs up. 👍
It’s nearly impossible to clean it by yourself. It’s so hard. I know I’ve cleaned so much of this stuff and if I see anything like this or any over cluttered mess I have to prepare. It takes a massive amount of courage to clean it. I have to completely disassociate to get it done.
I'm sure he will at some point, as part of the renovation portion, but I imagine he just did that to have a less-than gross surface to stand on until then. It would've needed vacuuming before pulling up anyway, just so crap doesn't go flying 🤢
I thought it was mold on the ceiling! I was so relieved when you said soot! I can't wait to see part 2! Will this house be more than 2 parts? You are a giant freaking hero!!! And hilarious 😂😂
Wait wait😂wait🤣hold tha hole up! 6sec’s in & I had to pause your video to outburst a goofy laugh & collect myself to thunk-out(lol I said,”thunk”)this text & comprehend what u named yourself this time😂
Sometimes you pepper in general details about a house (such as very isolated in a field or a vague history) and I really enjoy that, so if any of that makes it into future installments I would love it. I'm in a different climate and to learn that rodents head for warm houses after the fields are plowed, and details like that, it blew my mind. The layers of wallpaper designs here are fun to think about! (At least 2 in the pantry)
Fun fact, this video is in real time and he just cleans that fast. The squeaky voices you hear in the background around 13:50 are the mice complaining about their homes getting messed up.

So I powered through the hoard to reach the closet, opened the door (had to clear some space), expecting an avalanche of crap to hit me once I opened the door....nothing. The closet was completely empty. 😂
I have never seen rodent nests that big...and I was married to a RAT!
So...that mouse poop. Are ya charging for that or is it free?
I'm so jazzed about watching you transform this house! 😁
Glad to see you in a mask while clearing the mouse poop out of that pantry.
I just found your channel! I thought you may be autistic and then you confirmed it for me. My oldest is on the spectrum. You're doing amazing work! I hope he finds his purpose. He's also brilliant :)
First! Happy Saturday!
Whoops sorry, thought I was first! 😂
Just found your channel last week, new sub 😊
I umderstand feeling overwhelmed, a couple mice can get into my home during winter & their poop freaks me out.
Fantastic job
Mack! Where’s your PPE?! We love you and need you to stick around! Mouse and roach excrement is baaaaaaddd for your lungs dude!
Ahhh there we go. A sorta mask at least …
Eye protection too. That’s some nasty looking stuff in there 🤢
Asbestos is even worse for your lungs!
I would have used a full mask with a respirator with eyes covered. This level of mouse poop is scary.
Not only that he said there was black mold in that place.
Rip out that carpet not only was there mice poop but I’m sure mice urine.
I actually quite like the multipart series, I get invested so it's something to look forward to, and also for you, it helps protect you from burn out as you aren't constantly searching for the next thing for content and the families you help get more help than the probably thought possible... Win win win
My cleaning angel, you'll make those place shine. Very nice what you're doing for these people. ❤
Agree. I like the anticipation. Plus it helps me to know that the ending is good.❤
I came to comments to say this! Yikes 😬😳😮
I never thought of it that way. I agree 1000 percent with you.. a win win all the way around and everything you said for the homeowners too... so many people need this type of help... especially young families, single mom's and as we age too.

Remember When Cleaning 🧹🧼🧽 Dishes 🍽🍴🥄🍸 Always Use A Dish Washer It Uses Less Water 💦💧🚿 Then Hand 🤚✋🖐 Washing Dishes Its Also More Hygienic.
Great point! They say not to clean litter boxes with bleach for the same reason (it creates mustard gas).
We made this mistake cleaning up after moving our cat shelter into a bigger building. I almost fainted :P (i DID throw up a bunch)
You’re the nerd who cleans and fixes the homes. We’re the nerds who watch you do it. 😂
nerds unite!
Mack- The good thing about this house is there really isn't anything that is dirty.
Also Mack- We filled a 5 gallon shop vac about half way full with mouse poop just from this pantry.
Gotta love this guy lol!
Mack
@@junoantaresofficial thanks I will fix that!

Hilarious! I thought the same thing!😂
If this isn’t a dirty house , I’d hate to see the one that is .
Congrats CTY ! That is a noble accomplishment and will change your life for the better. ❤
Gosh, I'm so sorry.
maybe should have left those snakes to take out the mice 😂 seriously though it is a nightmare when you have mice in I hope you managed to not be too triggered.
Wow, the snakes were keeping the rodent population down. It's difficult. Life, man.
One day at a time. And take a break when needed.
You can do it!!
You're one step closer to your goal!!!
That was progress! Think 3 - 5 square feet at a time, not an entire room. In a less cluttered area, maybe you can do 5 - 10 square feet at a time.
You Van Do It! I'm in a similar situation - takes time - I'm 2 rooms down.
My husband choked on his coffee when you introduced yourself, Mack. 🤣 Had to pause it and start over.
Looks like this will be a fun project for you and Jason!
Is this the first time your husband has watched MMC? Because that didn't even surprise me. It's just totally Mack. 😊
I found the introduction hilarious too. I love Mach's sense of humor. His videos make my day.
I was lmao too .. !!
@@wolfe6220 no, he just wasn't quite prepared. He should have known better than to take a sip of coffee at the beginning. 😆
@@samsyummysweets Drinking anything while watching a HF video is a rookie mistake. 😉
Body doubling is really helpful for people with ADHD. This is basically virtual body doubling😊
I'm done. Good luck.
I hope you get well and enjoy your New Phase of life! Sent a prayer for you. ❤
I could smell rodent through my computer screen. I like cleaning, but I think I'd draw the line with this house, thank you for taking it on.
Hi Mack! Happy New Year!
Just one question -- is it just me, or is the photo of the circuit breaker box with the family photos and a cleaver very creepy?!
😮😳😬
That would have got me out of there ASAP. It is sooooo creepy.
Oh not just me then ! Freaked me out!

If anyone can make that house beautiful and livable, it would be you. Happy New Year!
Love how you always lead with compassion and a true desire to understand folks when talking about them. Thanks for all that you do! ❤
Me: "Time to get some stuff done" *video drops* Me:"Chores can wait"
🤣🤣🤣
lol me too!!
No lies detected!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m right there with you! I “like” the video before the ding dang thing even gets started!!! 😅
I don't know how you keep finding these fascinating projects and new ways to help. I really appreciate what you and Jason are doing. Thanks!
Lots of financially struggling people in that area, unfortunately. 😢
Not just that area and not just financial. Never can tell what is behind closed doors. Bless you Mack
MACK! You rock! Thanks for the awesome content.
And happy new year, of course 🎉❤
Did exactly this last night too, but from Germany. Have to repeat now since I fell asleep to the soothing sounds😅

No wonder the lady got overwhelmed with that pantry. I’ve never seen so many mouse nests and droppings! Hat’s off to you, Mack!
Wouldn’t the mouse feces permeate the carpet to the point that is would never be sanitary? Wouldn’t it still smell bad??
listen i get the mortification brain lock and these videos are the only reason i do much of any adulting lately
Wow… much respect for tackling this job
Dude I give you total credit for cleaning all that mouse poop 💩 I don't think I could ever handle that. You do a superb job in all the cleaning you do 👍❤️
I wouldn’t have had the patience I would’ve had to pull all that carpet out. God knows what would be underneath it
Would it have been better to just pull up the carpet in the pantry?
I'm sure he will at some point, as part of the renovation portion, but I imagine he just did that to have a less-than gross surface to stand on until then. It would've needed vacuuming before pulling up anyway, just so crap doesn't go flying 🤢
I thought it was mold on the ceiling! I was so relieved when you said soot! I can't wait to see part 2! Will this house be more than 2 parts? You are a giant freaking hero!!! And hilarious 😂😂
Depending on how many rooms they have to do, this will be 3 parts, minimum, from just the areas I've seen so far....
Watching these videos makes me feel like a good housekeeper! 😅
I almost cried down both legs with your opening!
Thank you for showing what can happen with persistence and energy.
Aurikaterina, beautiful mess and you all uploaded on the same day within hours of each other???!!!!🎉🎉🎉💃💃
That freeze state is real I'm a mom and constantly overwhelmed I live in that state and struggle to get anything done sometimes, love the channel 🎉🎉
Wait wait😂wait🤣hold tha hole up! 6sec’s in & I had to pause your video to outburst a goofy laugh & collect myself to thunk-out(lol I said,”thunk”)this text & comprehend what u named yourself this time😂
We need an MMC video game in the style of Powerwash Simulator, but with your amazing commentary, narration, and humor!
On the cabinets, could you use Killz primer/paint on them, after cleaning and sanitizing, to make them safe for food?
